the CJ did not say the law school must remain as the only law school in the country. She only said the universities give theoretical knowledge to law students and so there is the need for a professional training school like the ghana law school. She even added that to scrap the Ghana law school then the universities should include professional training in their LLB programmes

I wonder why all this noise. Afterall Nana Addo never went to the law school and is touted as a prominent lawyer in Ghana.
How about Asante Bediatuo who is practising with his father's certificate?

The practical training should be done by the law faculties. So after the LLB the 1year or 2years professional course should be added very simple. Why is it that the old people want to perpetuate the colonial ideology. The general legal council should only conduct licenciating exams for the lawyers who will graduate from the universities like what the medical and dental council do for the medical doctors. The new CJ should be innovative for the betterment of this country. She has just 3years not like the former one who had 10years. So she should etch her name in history as an innovator.

Australia has a similar size population and there is more than one law school. We're very corrupt so our decision making often does not make sense at all. There should be more than one law school. There are many Ghanaian lawyers abroad who will be happy to commit to teach our brothers and sisters in law schools. What is it about that smelly makola place that requires everyone to go and attend law lectures there?
Corrupt country.

The General Legal Council should in collaboration with the National Accreditation Board, limit the number of Law Faculties. It is manifestly unfair and a waste of human resource to allow students to bag the first degree in Law and deny them the chance of qualifying professionally. The rules can always be reviewed. In the 1970's the rules were varied to allow holders of the B.A degree in Law and another subject to pursue the professional course just like their colleagues with the LLB degree. This allowed many students, some of whom are serving on the Bench, to enter the Law School as a matter of course. After 60 years of its establishment, the single Law School with three satellite campuses is not enough for the high Law student population.
A way out could be limiting the numbers to existing levels at the point of entry and allowing the Faculties to run the Law School programme in addition to the LLB and make the students sit for a common qualifying examination conducted by the General Legal Council. Insistence on the present system is a highly insensitive response to a human situation.
