Jerry John Rawlings has stated that greed among some party members led to their loss in the 2016 general elections. He claimed corruption increased to insane levels under John Mahama and accused them of departing from the values of probity and accountability which formed the basis under which the party was formed. According to him, it was mainly because of the corruption that the NDC lost power to the governing New Patriotic Party.

  It is imperative that we do so, now. We must retrieve all our stolen money and other State properties with interests where applicable.
  
  We should not shy away from sending culprits to jail, too, when their activities leading to such loss of State assets prove criminal.
  
  And we should not only restrict that to opposing Political elements. People within the incumbent Party with that kind of criminal behavior must be uprooted and dealt with similarly. That is the only way we could curb corruption among our Political leaders in Ghana.
