Jerry John Rawlings has stated that greed among some party members led to their loss in the 2016 general elections. He claimed corruption increased to insane levels under John Mahama and accused them of departing from the values of probity and accountability which formed the basis under which the party was formed. According to him, it was mainly because of the corruption that the NDC lost power to the governing New Patriotic Party.

Even though I don't support JJ Rawlings and the coups he carried out,I am aware if John Mahama/NDC had been in power in 1979 they would have been overthrown and all executed/killed by firing squad.
