So long as our commercial practices are not well monitored, and properly organized, (trying hard to stay away from 'regulated') we remain at perpetual risk of falling victim to unscrupulous Traders who would do whatever they deem necessary to make profit at the expense of even our lives.
Often, these Traders are not adequately informed of the physiological repercussions of the chemicals they use. All they need to hear is how those chemicals would enhance their business bottom-line.
Our Food and Drug Administration has immense handicaps: first, with adequate resources to function well enough, and second, lacking the political and social support to make their performance count in promoting and ensuring our safety.
However, we, the People, are the ultimate consumers and likely victims of any lapses in the work of the FDA. It is our collective responsibility, therefore, to do more to inspire the FDA, and pressure the Government to provide the necessary resources to the Agency.
We also have to show greater personal and societal responsibilities to watch and call out any signs of misuse of chemicals by our neighbors, friends and family.
The sad irony in this issue is that the Traders themselves would not be totally immune to the very chemicals they are misusing to cause the danger to the end-users of their produce or products.
Such Traders also include our Farmers of various produce who are lured by fraudulent marketers to misapply dangerous chemicals on their crops and soil, as well.
We must be more careful even as we accelerate our pace, and augment our means to get out of poverty, else, we would be dislocated so far away from the wealth we are racing to gain that the end would not justify the means.
