Why should a government minister apologize on behalf of the central region? Are regional ministers supposed to apologise to victims' families on behalf of their regions where lynchings occur? All we know is showing off and wanting to be seen. Central region is not responsible for the crime. If a soldier commits murder, does the army commander have to apologise?
As a society we haven't moved from emotionally triggered behaviors to rational conduct. I bet the IGP must also apologise because an armed police officer was seen loitering around and doing nothing when the soldier's body was being burned.
Those responsible for various types of criminal conduct will hopefully be dealt with based on the available evidence. Some will be done for murder, others for grievous bodily harm, common assault, or conspiracy in relation to the above mentioned crimes. It won't be easy and I suspect that some very good criminal defence barristers wouldn't want to defend the suspects.
This tragic case should hopefully bring us all to our senses; soldiers, law enforcement and politicians.
Some innocents have been tortured freely by some soldiers simply because they are residents of denkyira obuasi. How it will affect them in the future, is obviously not the concern of anyone. We support some perpetrators of crime and condemn others.
I don't think anyone has been prosecuted in Ghana for lynching someone suspected of theft or armed robbery. That explains why the policeman seen in the video was casually strolling around without any moral sense to even ask people to stop burning the soldier's body.
