We understand that the contract for West Blue is not valid, by virtue of the chronic corruption in governance of the last administration. So why are they still there? Cant the authorities sanitize the process to pre-empt the endemic bureaucratic waste bedevilling the entire shipping chain? In the States, you could sit behind your desk at home and clear cargo in port without any human contact. So what is wrong with Ghana striving to attain such level? If we strive to be knowledgeable about international trade compliance or import/export processes with regulatory agencies embedded and/or unified in the processes and systems, all these wasteful enterprises will phase out. Need to identify which agencies in government play regulatory roles in import/export to partner the mainstream administrators, such as GPHA, GSC, Liners, GCNET, GRA et al. One should not have to go to i.e. Plant and Quarantine office for a permit. A one stop shop of a network anywhere should do the trick. Learn from developed economies. And tap into Ghanaians overseas who specialize in international trade and compliance.
