From what I am deducing from the cause of death of Capt Maxwell Mahama, it appears GAF is not offering high quality training to their officers. The death of Cletus Avoka's son on GAF training ground is still fresh in our memory. The death of another young captain, even though unfortunate, was avoidable for the following reasons: 1) How can a military officer loss his bearing in his command area. It does not make sense to me since the first thing he should have done was to study the terrain carefully, with the help of his adjutants, to the extent of knowing the adjoining villages, communities and towns and the main and auxilliary routes. This is very important because in case the platoon wants to beat a retreat as a result of any attack, they should know exactly where there are going. 2) Since Dankyira area is not a war zone, the first port of call should have been to the chief's palace and then familiarization with members of the community. If this had been done, at least, someone among the mob would have identified him. 3) He being new in the area, he should have embarked on the jogging with his adjutant because the mere deployment of the military to that zone to guide a civilian facility should have informed the young captain that there is a potential security risk in the area.

Why must GAF officers descend on the village to conduct an investigation into the murder of the captain? Is that function not the responsibility of the Ghana police? Is Ghana truly a democratic state with clearly defined institutional responsibilities and functions? The GAF appear to be a law unto itself. They should be restrained.

We are in a very serious cross road of our democracy. If our leaders and GAF are not careful and overreact without due process, Ghana is in for a turbulent crises that will shake our very foundation. There is so much shit going on in our country because of past mistakes by our leaders right now, every precaution must be taken not to rock the boat because of one very unfortunate and cowardly act by an already angry unemployed youths and poor folks who are experiencing what they term as a betrayal by their leaders and the GAF on this galamsey issue. What happened there, make no mistake is a tip of an ice berg of the frustration of local protectionism.

Ghana is a nation of laws people. People can't take the laws into their own hands just because the have suspicions. Not to say I am any wiser than the perpetrators of mob justice, but I can never accept that it is ok to kill just on the basis of suspicion. Jealousy, hatred, ignorance, anger, murderous intentions, etc., have pushed people to make wrong accusations against others which have ended innocent lives tragically. But in the face of mob justice, no one is safe . That is why it is critical to dissuade such incomprehensible actions. It is regrettable that such a fine, responsible young soldier met such fate at the hands of those people. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Man, sad and barbaric as the incident is, do not delude yourself that it is the first of its kind in the country. You may be too young to know of a similar incident that called a policeman by name Ninja killed more than two decades ago at Ablekuma. Not justifying the barbaric act in the least, this is a regular Ghanaian occurrence and has only become big news because of the personality involved. It all boils down to how lawless, hypocritical, savage and brute we Ghanaians are.

A stupid and pretentious statement from you!!! Do your men know about talking amicably to people in such situations? You train animals and animals you'll get! Not with your do before complain attitude. I always say that, Ghanaians are cowards. Where on earth is a military personnel suppose to hit a civilian? Or you guys think civilians can't fight back? How many times haven't soldiers beaten innocent people? Am highly against the death of the captain but at the same time against the intimidations of the soldiers in Ghana. Last year, a 12 year old boy was beaten to pulp with the charge of theft somewhere in the northern part of Ghana! A fucking 12 year old boy whom they couldn't even prove for that theft. The lil boy couldn't walk nor stand! Kwaseasem arakwa in Ghana. Take it like that, accidents do happen. Besides the people have been terrorized by arm robberies and nobody did anything about that! Etua wo yonko ho a, etua dua mu.
