What is a nation that is unable to deal effectively even with the relatively simple task of safely disposing of household and industrial waste, doing dreaming of nuclear power plants - which produce dangerous waste that will remain radioactive for thousands of years to come: and must safely and securely stored all that while?
Even wealthy and technologically advanced Japan is losing the battle to stop a biblical disaster from occurring as its clean up at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant fails and an apocalyptic disaster stares it in the face.
And the nation that builds roads that develop potholes soon after their construction and in which bridges are left uninspected for decades wants to build a nuclear power plant ? Please.
We must stop lumbering future generations of our people with quality-of-life-destroying idiocy because our vampire-elites want to grow super-rich regardless of the effects such projects have on Ghanaians. Enough is enough.
This power plant is totally unnecessary. Nuclear fission plants providing endless supplies of cheap power that has virtually no radioactive waste is only about a decade away. Let us wait for that option instead. Haaba.

ghana already has nuclear reactors. it was built during the Nkrumah era by the Israelian gov, if I remember correctly. Nkrumah made sure of that and even sent out ppl to Russia to study all about nuclear power. Unfortunately he was overthrown even before they could complete their studies. Its still there today at kwabenya. you cant base on what happened in Fukushima as a reason to deter a nation willing to solve its power crisis. contrary to ur personal view, the world has actually learned more from what happened in Fukushima in terms of nuclear power handling. there are about 450 actively operating nuclear reactors worldwide and many under construction. We Ghanaians have the potential to handle all these things...

I understand the way you feel bro, you need to get some education. 1. There are standard procedures for handling radioactive wastes, most especially that of a nuclear power plant. 2. Don't ever compare galamsey with nuclear program in Ghana. The nuclear industry is a professional industry that is standardized. 3. The atomic energy has been handling radioactive wastes before now without any problem. When people use Fukushima as a basis for not acquiring nuclear power I just laugh at their ignorance. The number of deaths recorded from road accidents in Ghana in the first quarter has been estimated at about 708. Guess we shouldn't drive cars again in Ghana because its lead to the death of 100s of people. I will love to advise people on this forum who have issues with nuclear power, kindly support your country to have nuclear power and see how Ghana becomes a highly industrialized nation. Shalom

YOU GOT IT WRONG. I'M TALKING ABOUT OUR POOR CULTURE OF MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE. EVERYONE LOVES CHEAP ENERGY FROM NUCLEAR POWER BUT THE ASSOCIATED WASTE AND HOW IT'S STORED, MONITORED AND MAINTAINED FOR HUNDREDS AND PROBABLY THOUSANDS OF YEARS IS CURRENTLY PROBLEMATIC FOR ADVANCED COUNTRIES LIKE USA ETC ETC. THIS IS WHY THEY ARE MOVING AWAY TO RENEWABLE FORMS OF ENERGY. JUST GOOGLE IT AND EDUCATE YOUR SELF.
SOLAR, WIND ETC ARE THE BEST AND WE HAVE IT IN ABUNDANCE IN GHANA.
WHY NOT BUILD SOLAR PANEL FACTORY IN GHANA OR WAIVE TAXES ON SOLAR PANELS AND MAKE IT PORT-FREE FOR IMPORTERS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN GHANA? I BET PRESSURES ON ECG,GRIDCO ETC WILL EASE IMMEDIATELY.

Let me educate you Mr Oga. How dare you address a country like this, I don't want to believe you are out of your mind. Its people like you who come online on faceless forum to spew rubbish. Mind you, I've been following your news lately and the government is working tirelessly towards making sure waste is properly managed in Ghana. Back to our subject matter...there are standard procedure for storing wastes in the nuclear industry, this will be carried out by well trained Ghanaians. Those technologically advanced nation you talking about have used nuclear power for decades, now they are highly industrialized and exporting their technology to different parts of Africa while we depend mostly on imports. If anyone is lumbering the future, then its not the nuclear industry, the industry is meant to help Ghana. I believe you're trying to talk about the fusion technology, kindly get more knowledge about it, the technology has not been perfected yet, there is no African country training his people on nuclear fusion. I believe we can manage the wastes coming from fission technology and we can also harness the industry towards a prosperous Ghana. Long live Ghana. Please don't refer to the elites of Ghana as vampires, ok... They are well respected people who work tirelessly for the development of Ghana as a nation. I believe the elites can afford fuel in their generators while the poor man in the village can't even afford to pay ECG bills. The elites are working towards building a greater Ghana.

please its nuclear fusion that has no radioactive waste produced and not nuclear fission. Mankind is no where near viable nuclear fusion technology. if nuclear fission can be an option why not. The western world used it to develop yet with all the issues you mentioned. why not us? Control safe guards, security at NPP is not ajoke and is internationally regulated directly. I think more public dialogue is needed.
