##SOURCE: CLASSFMONLINE ------ The Government of Ghana is reviewing the debts incurred by the John Mahama administration to find out whether the loans were used for the purposes of which they were contracted, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo, has revealed. After the review of the debt situation, the findings will be made public to enable the Ghanaian people realise how their moneys were spent by the previous administration, Mr Marfo added. It is recalled that during the electioneering season the then main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused the Mahama government of excessive borrowing but with little to show for, an assertion the then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) rubbished because they thought they had embarked on several infrastructural projects with those loans. Mr Marfo speaking during the National Policy Summit on Tuesday May 16 said revealed that the new government is investigating all the debts left behind by Mr Mahama. “We are working on the numbers, the ministry of finance gives us the bulk numbers. But they do not all emanate from one source, we have some sitting in energy, some sitting in SSNIT and we are examining all. As a government and we are doing it gradually and slowly because we must be accurate. “We want to be sure that whatever comes out finally is accurate. The government owes it as a duty to keep the nation informed about these debts and what it was used for.”

Yes he is the new problem solver. Mills went to the port and did nothing. Mahama preferred to borrow than to close revenue leakages in the system. Responsible government has come so get use to it

There are too many government agencies at the ports. Systems put in place for ease of business transactions are not business friendly. This helps in getting business people to cut corners. The result is money that should go to government ends up in multiple private pockets. Introduction of technology might help. But when rules are enforced and offenders are dismissed and jailed. All will henceforth behave well.

At least he is trying to find solutions to the revenue leakages at the port. What did Mahama and Mills do when they knew of the problem. What is knowledge of the problem going to do if you are not able to solve them.

Dr. Bawumia should have known already how deeply mired our Ports have been in corruption, and didn't need the job-seekers to bring his attention to it. Do we have to be alarmed by Bawumia's late-coming to know of such a colossal drain on our Economy? Maybe not. But I hope the VP would get to speed in catching up on all such vital loci of gross corruption that are killing our Nation to attempt at correcting the situation.
The transient intervention of the late President, Atta-Mills, to cleanse the Ports of its criminal behavior of pilfering our revenues and dubiously seizing imported properties from diasporans to enrich their employees was conspicuous revelation enough to educate all on the corruption at the Ports.
We need a massive reorganization of the Ports that would prevent the evil canker from continuing there. The least we could do is digitize many, if not all, of the processes so as to have easily traceable track of our revenues and offer clients full knowledge of their monetary obligations. Non-cash payments may also be imposed on all transactions at the Ports.
Long Live Ghana!!!

The fact that people even come to you (vice President) for employment opportunities in itself is an indication of corruption since you are not the Commissioner of Labor or Employment. That means meritocracy is non-existence and jobs are given on whom-you-know basis. Begin the correction from this angle then you can stretch to the ports. Those given jobs at the ports outside meritocracy have to earn 'extra' to satisfy the jobs givers hence the corruptions at this places among other motives/reasons.
