This explanation is not anything new. Entry to SHS has always been for those who obtain the requisite passes, as prescribed by the Placement Secretariat. So what is new?

Talking is too much. Ex Pres JM did extremely well. Fixing our power crisis that govts including npp kufuors created, within such a short time was a miracle. He should have been reelected based on only that performance but for the electorate we have and the deceitful lavish promises off npp and the pull him down corruption bashing by JJ. JM ayekooo. You did well for Ghana

The example sited by the minister using cocobod scholarship scheme shows that they are targeting only brilliant students who excelled and not just everyone who passed, cocobod does not give scholarship to all students who passed exams but those that were outstanding in their performance, which may imply only the children of the rich are likely to benefit from the "fake" free shs program of NPP. Its fake, because this was not what they preached while in opposition, the NPP just fooled Ghanaians, but woe unto them if they fail in making shs free for all students, u don't need an angel to predict they will be kicked out in 2020 elections.

It has always been the case that one has to pass the BECE before gaining admission into the SHS, so there is nothing new or innovative in the statement put out there. The Minister and the GES must come clear on the matter.

Free SHS should not be wholesale. At least there must be conditions attached. The following conditions could suffice:
1) There must be a cut-off point for those who want to go to secondary or technical/vocational institutions. Aggregate 20 for those going to secondary schools and 30 for those going to technical/vocational institutions. Note: this does not mean that those who go to technical/vocational schools are low grade students. You know, subjects taught at the primary and JHS level are academic in nature and so those who have interest in technical and vocational courses are always left out. It is possible that if technical/vocational courses were started at the primary school level, those with low grade would have excelled better than their secondary school counterparts.
2) Special consideration should be given to students from outside the regional and district capitals.

At the moment,we don't have obligatory school attending age with the minimum education. Some countries have set a minimum education age to 16 years. That means you have no right to stay out of school until you are 16 years. This goes to students with academic deficiency, they can drop out from general education to technical, vocational, commercial and training schools.Others can take up apprenticeship to acquire skills and technology.
Now that we know the condition for qualification,we must be concerned about the failures.
The paradox here is that if you repeat a student in the same class you are expected to double your expenditure.Who will pay for it?Thank you.

What happens to the failures? The Minister has no clue what the government will do9 with them. Parents voted for the NPP without questioning the free SHS slogan. The president has been emphatic that no Ghanaian child will be left out. The Minister says some Ghanaian children will be left out. The NDC started the re-sit program so that children who did not pass at the first attempt will have at least one more chance. The NPP rather think these so-called "failures" can go to hell after all only children who "pass" are "Ghanains". We must live with it for at least four years.

What a load of b**l s**t? Since when do students continue to SHS without first passing their BECE exams and making the grade? Why this shifting of goal posts?

GES and the ministry of education should come clear on this matter. Their statements are inherently laden for examination thalidomide.
