Maame Aba while the MP might have aired in the herculean role manufacturing plays in generating multiplier effect jobs in the economy, no government be it NDC or NPP has moved in the that direction with the exception of Nkrumah.
Yet Nkrumah's manufacturing strategy while it was important lack the vital role of the private sector playing the significant role in the industrialization process because mostly the companies were state sponsored entities and lack the competitive spirit which was the key element of a successful manufacturing strategy during that era.
Problems and Solution-the income elasticity of the demand for commodity goods (natural resources and extractive goods-cocoa, grain, crude oil and minerals) that Ghana has for so long specialized in has always been low.
The overwhelming truth is that Ghana's dependency on primary commodity production and exports leaves them vulnerable to commodity shocks, price fluctuations and declining terms of trade, especially since the income elasticity of the demand for primary commodities is low.
Solution: The only credible solution which both NPP and NDC are yet to grasp is that there is the urgent need for the diversification on not only the economy but also the export basket by adding a higher value to the myriad of natural resources Ghana has via manufacturing and sale on the global market. These processed goods have to meet fully the threshold of technological engineering efficiency and economic efficiency. In other words processed goods have to be made using the least amount of resources while simultaneously satisfying fully the needs of both local and global consumers.
The more these unique goods are sold on the global market the more GDP and jobs will be generated. Aside of jobs the economy will be vibrant, unemployment will be low, patents will be granted to Ghanaian researchers and the standard of living will remarkably improve. Also countries with the wildest range of processed goods (from canned food to unmanned planes) are the ones with the highest GDP, lowest unemployment, strongest currencies and vibrant economies.
To date no government since Nkrumah's era (including NPP and NDC) has met the said threshold. Maame Aba does the NPP government has the calibre to meet this threshol? NO! So far we have heard about rhetorics from Akuffo Addo but no substance!

May God help mother Ghana. If these are the university graduates Ghana has produced then I am sorry, university education in Ghana is very useless. Look, I am not a university graduate but I know that the setting up of a factory can bring direct and indirect job opportunities and, since this is going to happen simultaneously across the country, the synergy will be too huge. What about savings on foreign exchange and improvement of health. I live in a community where somebody has set up a small factory to produce fresh yogurt. The factory has brought immense benefit to all in the community including the young and old and anytime there is a shortage of the commodity everybody gets alarmed. NDC people must learn to read wider.

You're so wrong, actually the one district one factory is going to create more jobs because first of all jobs are going the opened for people who live in those districts who previously didn't have jobs. Secondly the whole idea of implementing this policy is adding value to the raw materials since we import almost everything into this country it will be prudent for us as a country to be self sustaining and export the surplus. Every raw material identified in each district has ready market in its immediate environment and also the larger country as a whole. This is bold leadership even when the economy is not conducive to implement this policy but for determination and focus it will be done and sustained for future generations to continue to take the country to economic prosperity where our citizenry will want to live and work here than travelling outside of the for greener pastures.
