Good contribution brother Kwesi Atta. But we need the Secretary General, Comrade Abraham to channel these efforts in developing proposals for the government to work with. The annual speeches can only make us popular but what have we achieved over the years with the propaganda. We need to heed the advice of the Word of God to renew our minds.

Much as your call for government to revive and support the textile industry is right, it can't be done at the expense of the one district, one factory policy. Textiles are not the only products needed in Ghana which can be manufactured locally....the more reason why Nkrumah built more than three hundred factories. And to help solve the unemployment problem, government cannot rely only on the textile industry...but one of them.

It would be necessary to prioritise some industries without having to abandon the one district, one factory policy.
The textile industry can be revamped if the government is committed to protecting home industries. I find it difficult to comprehend our inability to block the influx of illegally imported textile when we have thousands of well - paid customs and preventive officials, thousands of policemen who man regular barriers and conduct snap road checks and the broad array of ministers responsible for trade and industries , internal security and the innumerable national security operatives, charged with protecting the national interest.
The President has a lot on his plate but the buck stops with him. A vibrant textile industry would encourage large - scale cotton production and processing and absorb large numbers of the unemployed. For years, we have been unwittingly supporting the economies and solving the unemployment problems of other countries by importing goods and foods we have the endowment to easily produce locally.
What would it take to revamp the defunct match factory at Kade as a matter of priority? The raw material is abundant and the mills throw away cut - offs as waste. Guaranteed production would make us stop the importation of matches and save huge amounts of foreign exchange spent bringing them in. Great employment avenues would be opened and some galamsayers could find alternate and sustainable employment. The same distribution network would be employed and the local economy would rejuvenated. Match factories could be replicated in other districts.
We ought to think, "Ghana First " all the time.

Mr. Abraham Koomson's labour wars to exact more dues and total lack of undrstanding of piece rate and other competitiveness instruments is what put off new investment in the textiles industry.
