It has never been right for some ignorant, cowardly fools to engage in bigotry and ridiculing of other People for just where they come from or the language they speak. All Tribes in Ghana could be faulted with this behavior to one degree or another, even though only a small proportion of each might be habitual in displaying that behavior.
Our version of dehumanizing others who do not speak the same language as us is even more sinister than that of those who base their display of that behavior on how others look differently from themselves. It gets even more uncivilized and uncultured to have, for example, Asantes ridicule and insult Fantis, Brongs and others, and vice versa, for the same reasons, given that they all originate from one ethnic source.
Many believe that some Ashantis, in particular, lead in that behavior as a result of their bitterness with the diminishing of the power and glory of the Ashanti Kingdom, first, via the control of our Colonial Masters, and second, Nkrumah's creation of the Brong Ahafo Region and his restoration of some of the Brong Chiefs to their original paramountcy or autonomy from the Ashanti Traditional Authority. It should not be surprising, therefore that many Ashantis still cannot accept the fact that a secular Nation, as Ghana is toay, has little room for elevating any tribe over others, for whatever reason.
It must, however, be mentioned that a certain poignant irony exists vis-a-vis this faulting of Ashantis for that Tribal 'feud'. And that is: the Traditional unwritten but no less authentic Constitution of the Ashanti Empire had long banned discriminating against foreigners, or even citing their different background for an insult. In Ashanti, it was a taboo to call a foreigner 'Manfrani' which means in our modern lingo 'alien'. The offender would be hauled to the Palace for a harsh penalty. So, Manhyia, itself has never approved of or encouraged bigotry in any form. The Otumfuor's continued role as an eminent Traditional force in Ghana has never been projected to dehumanize others.
In fact, the general treatment of demeaning Northerners, for example, by others could be cited not only among some Ashantis, but also among other Akans, and some Ewes, in particular, who, most recently, seem to have raised their own level of bigotry against Ashantis and others, as well. Doesn't each Tribe have a denigrating term for others in Ghana?
The case of accentuation of Ewe bigotry against Ashantis or Akans, in general, has been mentioned elsewhere as having emerged from the killing of Kotoka in the April 17, 1967 failed Coup attempt led by some Akans. In fact, Lt. Yeboah and Lt. Arthur, two leaders of that Coup, who later got executed for their roles in it, were both Brongs. But many Ewes blamed the whole Coup attempt on Gen. Afrifah, even though no concrete prove exists to support that allegation. Many Ewes would cite in quiet suspicion that the fact the only Ashanti member of the leadership of that failed Coup, Lt. Osei-Poku, was spared his life because Afrifah pulled the strings to save his neck. Then came J.J. and his execution of Gen. Afrifah among others. Even though there were some Ewes and Northerners among those Generals J. J. executed, many Ashantis did not like the fact that most of the executed were Akans. What even fueled more that angst of some Ashantis against the Ewes in the J. J. era was the horrific, atrocious murder of the Judges and Captain Acquah, all of whom were Akans, by some insane Ewe hooliganistic surrogates of J. J.'s. The cloud of suspicion and hatred gathering around this incident was so thick that most Ghanaians feared we were close to the brink of Civil War.
Right now, since the deplorable behavior has spread among all Ghanaian tribes, so that we can locate bigots in all of them, no one is willing to concede that his or her tribe is most to blame for the tribalism, or was the first to resort to that behavior as a national political tool for fighting back opponents believed to be against the interests of his or her tribe. There is also the portion of the Population that would claim tribalism has long been part of humanity, and that we cannot single out any particular Tribe for starting it. Given that scenario, we end up with a vicious circle of blame that touches all of us, all Tribes. No one is innocent of this behavior, as members of a Tribe. But we must also acknowledge that many more among all Tribes are sensitive to and abhor bigotry and would not engage in or condone it.
Be as that may, the practice of that tribal bigotry has become mutual among some Ghanaians. And if we didn't know before, now we do know that it is a dangerous, unsocial, Nation-wrecking behavior that should be totally be rejected by all of us.
I cannot see anyone that is either racist or bigoted as civilized. Many sadly believe wrapping themselves in modern-styled Clothing and other accoutrements, and taking to using the newest technologies are what make people civilized. Not at all. Being civilized is manifested by our behavior, especially, in how we deal with or treat other human beings, how we play our role in building a peaceful diverse society.
I hope we would all grow out of that primitive way of psychologically attacking our perceived foes, and those we think are different from us. We cannot build a peaceful, mutually loving Society and country with that attitude in prevalence.
Long Live Ghana!!!

I have always said this that most accra boys and girls are too known and think they are on top of their game. they look down on others from kumasi just because of their fake broken english. Some of them in Accra speak good Ga but when a guy from Kumasi starts speaking Twi in their company, they start laughing and look down on them as bush boys meanwhile no one questions them about their speaking of Ga. I dont know where this kind of mentality is coming. the Young generation have been so arrogant that they see anyone that does not live in Accra as a bush person or uncivilised, how ignorant they are. They live their fake lives in Accra meanwhile most of these guys have no work but just doing empty rounds as they claim just to make small amount of money for food. I had an experience where my cousing's girl friend frowned at me for speaking good Twi. I was annoyed by her actions and wanted to confront her but my cousin resisted. I have lived in Uk for over ten years and speaks good english so when I first met this lady, she spoke english and had to reply her in english so we continued communicating in Englsih. then one day while I was in the company of my cousin, we went to joint with this lady and i started speaking twi. this girl suddenly remarked with bad body lanquage as the twi I was speaking was some alien lanquage. we must learn to appreciate each other irrespective of where one comes from. Escalators are not common in Ghana and for that matter every Ghanaian struggles with the use of it on the first encounter so why the big deal. The boy and girls and Accra must be told to be real and stop the fake life. I also blame the media which have been flooded with fake accent and presenters who want to paint and impression that they were born in UK, USA and Canada.

When I wrote my common entrance examination from my rural village I had never seen a zebra crossing, when I wrote my A'Level General Paper I have never boarded an airplane nor a ship but I wrote with people staying in Accra, Kumasi Takoradi etc and probably passed well than the so-called city guys. Those negative comments about Ashanti Region strengthens the people rather than weakens them. At the university we made fun of each other and I still have former and current ambassador friends we tease each other. Please draw a line between fun and insults. How many Ghanaian cant speak or understand Twi, where and why did they learn it? Don't be jealous for the Asantes are unique but it does not make them more human or Ghanaian than the other. One Love for we are Ghanaian first before tribal connections

Forget Accra people they envy kumasi, history make it clear that Kumasi was recognized before Accra. They are not sounding relevant on this issue. One fact will tell u the differences between Kumasi and Accra, and that is to Compare the natives settlement in Accra and Kumasi; like Chokor, Korle- gono, Jamestown, Nungua, mamprobi in Accra to surbub in Kumasi like Bantama, Ashtown, Asafo, Dichemso, Amakom, Krofrom and will learn how civilised natives planned their settlement. Again the beautiful places and huge investments in Accra is flooded by non Ga (s), Akans in particular with Ashanti's of highest percentage. Again Kumasi developments mostly are done by the indigenes unlike Accra which is mostly spearheaded by the government as well as Foreign investors.
