You are supporting the same thing you are criticizing by your own analogy Paul. The guy cant be perfect. There are people who are practically soo good at what they do with their hands but dont have the ability to speak good English and that does not and should be used as the yard stick to bar them from what they do.Just about a month agoe BBC did a documentary. And from the documentary you see how well people who did not go to soo much school and learn big 'Englishes' like you would have this guy do so well with their hands.
Anyway we are 60 and have not done well because we have people like you advocating for English speaking rather than using hands and heads for solving problems

We have seen the boy talk on YouTube and there is no doubt in my mind he is very articulate, very sharp and can think on his hands. Stop covering for the corrupt appointing committee who have diverted the boys dream.

So on your anology, if I scored average and pass your "subjective" oral interview you rather pass me on and send the poor guy from rural school but did better than everybody to some subject he hasn't gotten any desire for. Nkwaseansem! Oral interview level is where old boys or alumni networks kicks in. I can bet you that if Pius was coming from some of the big names SHS like Achimota, Addisadele or PreSec he would have met an old boy on the ineterviewing body and viola gotten in. Have you seen the oral interviews in the ministerial appointments in parliament? Just ridiculous and I am very sure this boy went through harder questions than that.

You perhaps benefited from the old boys alumni network to get to where you are so you don't know how it feels to be passed over because of where you are coming from. The reason for the interview by Medical School is to access his analytic ability and whether the candidate is not an handicap that can affect his performance as a medical doctor. We can listen to the guy speaking and there nothing to suggest that.
If you ask me why he was not taken at the Medical School, the reason is simply. The guy attended the wrong Secondary School. If you can make a meaning out this then fine.
Something serious is happening in Ghana that the solution will not come from the agents of change in society.
Walk down to the Medical School and you will find students with weak grades from Achimota and the likes doing medicine but this guy had the best grade from the 'wrong secondary school 'pure and simple.
Go now and investigate and run a programme on it and stop talking nonsense

In my year of admissions some of my mates had to go through interviews after the A Level results. Some of us(about 6 or so) including myself were not asked to come for interview and were admitted straight based on our excellent A level results.

I totally disagree with Paul Adom Otchere on the issue of KNUST refusing to accept Pius Kyere into School of Medicine. Suffice it to say that Pius failed in his oral interview, could it not have been possible to offer him his first choice based on his impeccable performance in the other two criteria to wit his WASSCE results and Entrance Examination. Again, why is it that Pius seems to be doing well in the processes that require less human contacts and interactions? Unlike the process that brings people into face to face interviews like the oral examination Paul is talking about. This brings to bear the issue of human manipulations. I still maintain, you cannot find a man 's construction in his face.

Are you not ashamed that this poor boy from a poor village school managed to perform better than all the dada mma from the prestigious schools but the authorities from these prestigious homes decided they could not continue to bear the shame of having this poor village boy compete with their prestigious sons in the prestigious profession? This is also corruption. I know of the situation that occurred at the undergraduate level in this same university several years ago: where another bush boy from a bush village background outperformed the wards of these same authorities from prestigious homes and thus was denied the opportunity for further studies abroad, resulting in this village boy becoming an alcoholic!

If they asked about current affairs relating to Ghana and he had no clues that is a different matter. If he was dropped because he could not answer questions about a soccer coach outside of Ghana then that is silly and unfair. The poor guy may not even have access to TV or radio so KNUST cannot make assumptions that everyone in Ghana is up to speed on the world stage despite the explosion in our exposure to all forms of media and communication.

I personally know what happens in some of our universities when it comes to medicine admissions. My junior brother applied to study medicine in a Ghanaian university, and was never given, but subsequently when we contacted a 'big man' to lead us in the admission search, with the same results and much more applications for that year, he got the admission with ease. What is Paul talking about, this guy wouldn't have been interviewed probably if he was a son of a 'big man'. That is largely the system in Ghana unfortunately. My opinion please. Very sad, #Ghana@60.

People brought up in Kumasi tend to speak English in a way we call 'Vernacular English'
--those from the North and Voltage also tend to exhibit similar trait--nonetheless ithe does not make them less clever--as you would have realised most go to achieve higher laurels academically than those brought up in a western way---

Eeeiii in Ghana? The British universities are always lenient on those of us who come to further our studies in their institutions because they know it's not our first language. It's abhorrent for you to hear this from a Ghanaian university. Very distasteful.

I support you. I did CIMA (UK) and the examiners always stressed that they were not going to mark English. Just be business minded and give business solutions which make sense and you pass the exams.

Ghanaians talk too much .The fact that a student scores 100% in all the subjects does not mean he can become a doctor. WASSCE is now full of APO. The universities should bring back entrance examination.
