THE GRASS ROOTS ARE JUSTIFIED IN THEIR GRIEVANCES
Ordinarily I will not like to comment on what is happening in the NDC but I want to share my little thought on the matter. I recall this is not the first time such a thing has happened on our political landscape when parties lose in elections. This is often the reason executives are changed after the loss. In the case of the NDC the margin of lose was too big for them to appreciate hence the attack on some of the executives. There has not been much blame to the flag bearer but most of the blame have been situated to the executives and those holding positions in the party. Yes, these are the people close to the former President and it is thought they have been advising him. Presidents have always been far from the grassroots and they are often not told the truth. The ‘’truth’’ which they are always told is praise singing and matters which will make them approve money for those involved. In spite of this a smart president should always have his links to give him unpolished reports from the ground so others should not be entirely blamed. The former President has little idea about management and he was swollen headed by the position. He did not attain the position through the hard way so he took things for granted. The praise singing has eaten into his head also. I have come to appreciate the African style of politics so much that it will be difficult to fall prey to it in future. I have made some recommendations to the current President in one of my earlier articles and it is up to him to take it or leave it.
The grass roots are blaming some executives for not releasing money and resources meant for campaign hence the cause of the defeat of the party. The truth is at a certain point these executives realized they will lose the elections so pushing more funds was just a waste so they refused to release these monies. It was obvious that the former President’s messages were not being accepted by the people and he himself acknowledged it at a point during his campaign when he alluded to cabal in the media. The situation was so bad and some of the NDC bigwigs knew it but they kept assuring the foot soldiers and the hard core followers that they will win. Even after the elections when the NPP has swept most of the parliamentary seats some members of the executives were still assuring their followers they were winning. For me the saying in the Bible that ‘’for lack of knowledge my people perish’’ applies so much. Any knowledgeable person in this situation will not believe the executives.
In another instance the women’s organizer has blamed the formation of several groups purporting to be engaged in campaign and making claim for funds. Were these foot soldiers not part of these groups? It was the same thing in 2012 after the death of late Professor Mills and the subsequent take over by then Vice President Mahama. There was reckless spending as long as anybody can provide any seemingly convincing reason to get money. Ghana had to suffer for this and the country did not have money to prosecute certain national commitments.
The confusion in the party currently is the result of those lies which were told. A cursory look at those in arms with the executives point to the fact they are mostly the less discerning. The party hierarchy will have to deal with the challenges which come with the lies they have told earlier.
Again the choice of the flag bearer is not my business but I want to play the devil’s advocate. What is the former President bringing on board afresh after the heavy defeat? Does he have anything new which Ghanaians will look up to return him to power? Or the people advocating for his return are doing that for their selfish motives? That is, to be offered positions in case he wins or it is time to reward him for giving them positions in his Government? It is up to the NDC family to resolve their problems. Unfortunately my condition has worsened under their administering of the country so I cannot wish them well.
The KwesiBotcweycommittee’s work is very important generally because the reason for the loss in the various constituencies may be different but there are some common reasons for the loss no matter the location. Some of these are the general economic conditions in the country corruption and unemployment. Whether we like it or not these issues affect almost everybody; whiles some of the party followers were strongly defending the position of the party some were also busily making money for themselves, friends and relatives. These people realized too late they have been fooled and they were the people who did not go to vote at all. Some of them were hurriedly pushed into employment in the last days of the Government through the back door.
The miscalculation was that provision of physical infrastructure alone will guarantee the party victory in the polls. Probably in the early days of our democratic experiment, provision of physical infrastructure carried so much weight in wining votes. Voters have come to realized that this has always been a means of enriching themselves by politicians at the detriment of the rest of the population. This has also raised the question from the voters whether they will eat projects when their living conditions are detestable.
I will use this opportunity to advise all of us that there is more consciousness after years of our practice of this system of governance. The attitude of the past cannot be continued now so politicians who do not learn fast are going to have the shock of their lives.
The people are now demanding accountability than ever and it is really long over due. Aside this we should also be demanding transparency and probity as required by the Constitution. In this regard my brothers in the NDC are doing the right things if they will engage in decent approach.

SMALLER PARTIES TO BE RELEVANT IF THEY MERGE
This business about Nkrumaist has been over flogged and those involved have nothing to offer this country. What is Nkrumaist? I believe in most of the ideas of Osagyefo so I am also an Nkrumaist. Simply stated it is the vision of the great man and many of us share in that vision. The vision can be identified with him personally and not with anybody else. Any other person can only share in that so for anybody to tell another person that he is not an Nkrumaist is over the bar. What does it take to share in the vision of Osagyefo? I believe that if the man should come around today, he is likely to revise some of his thoughts because of changes in the world order. The flag bearer of PNC telling the PPP that they are not Nkrumaist is irrelevant and defeatist. Can any of the so called Nkrumaist parties win elections as stand alone or in merger? It may probably happen not in our time today and they should take note. Winning an election is not a wishful thinking by some of them. Ghanaians are not willing to give their sovereignty to any group of people because they are educated and have good qualifications. It goes beyond just these things.
We as individuals are the creations of God and He has endowed us to different degrees. It is up to us to appreciate our strengths and limitations to do what we have been tasked to offer the world. Osagyefo has taken his away and the onus is on us to do ours.
I want to use this opportunity to encourage all those who want to see the minority parties merge into one single force, especially the PPP to push ahead. Those who don’t want merger are not in politics to influence the direction of the country for good but for their parochial interests. Their egos are deceiving them. They will see Canaan but will not get there. These people should review the election results since the beginning of the fourth Republic to appreciate the wisdom in asking for a merger. These smaller parties all put together are not able to garner 5% of votes cast and it should be a matter of concern. It appears the PPP are determined to make impression and they should have our blessings. If they don’t win in an election they can become the balancing force which can contribute to policy.
Politics in Africa and Ghana in particular is a game being played which one needs to understand. Many of us have eyes but we cant see and ears but we cant hear. I learnt Business Policy in the School of Admin and I have extended its application to other areas like politics. The smaller parties in our country have better chance of taking over power this time than ever before. We should be maturing in the ‘’game’’ but I want to say the day I will enter this game, nobody can undo me. Today NDC cannot criticize NPP on any issue otherwise they will be referred to similar incidence when they were in power. Does it mean that politicians criticize for the sake of it just to win power and when they assume leadership they will do the same thing? If it is so then should we take politicians from both sides serious? The unfortunate thing facing Ghanaians is that the two parties have become default parties and there is no other alternative. Continuing on this tangent will make our democracy to be taken for granted by politicians. We therefore need to make conscious efforts to change this trend.
I recall before the recent elections demanding very strongly transparency in our elections so that none of the parties will gain advantage. This was to ensure that the will of voters determine who governs us. If politicians are given the chance to influence the result of elections the votes of our citizens become irrelevant. We are today saying the recent election has been the most peaceful and transparent. The processes leading to the elections and determination of the results have been transparent which make everybody comfortable and nobody can refer to doctoring.
I can assure the people of Ghana the same will be done learning from the recent past and the 2020 elections will be cleaner than the recent one. There are reforms in the pipeline one will be bringing on board and I hope the election governing body will adopt it because it provides a plain level field.
There is an elaborate contribution to make to the smaller parties and it will be in a subsequent writing. Education alone cannot help us but more importantly one needs insight from above. That has been my reliance in most of the things I write about.
It is just unfortunate that those parties who claim allegiance to Nkrumah cannot come together as one strong force and have allowed petty and irrelevant considerations to keep them apart. Their influence in politics is nothing to write home about but they keep blaming others for their woes. They go into elections as stand alone and they come out shamefully but will not learn. If it is true they share the vision of Osagyefo why cant they come together? I have my strongest doubt about the abilities of these people and we should never make the mistake of ceding our sovereignty to them. To me they are in politics for their parochial interests.
It will take one selfless human being to change the course of history. There were many people living in Israel but God chose a mere shepherd to be anointed as king. He knew what He has planted into this man to enable him lead his chosen people. Ghana is a chosen nation of God and I am seeing a fire burning which is going to erupt as a volcano.God wants to do a new thing in this nation

OUR FOUNDATIONS ARE WEAK
The challenges of the country go beyond the obvious things we see and hear. There are many underground issues which are yet to come out. Sometime ago we were inundated withcattles destroying farm lands in Agogo and other places. Today we are talking about galamseywhich are causing destruction to our water bodies thereby threatening our survival. The true state of the nation has not yet been produced in a report like one can find in the body corporate from their financial statements including the notes. Politicians will never tell the people things which do not speak well about their performances but will always give rosy pictures when it is not so in fact. They always want power so they will do things that will afford them the power. If the citizens decide to be docile it suits their game plan. The right questions must be asked for the right answers to be given. And in this circumstance the journalists are supposed to be highlighting the issues. Unfortunately they have also taken sides and have compromised themselves because of money. They are the ones doing the country more harm.
The galamsey menace needs to be handled in a more matured manner by the sector minister who is unfortunate to inherit it with the support of the Government. I should believe that his ministry probably deserves more support to convincingly deal with the problem. There should be a total review of the problem looking at the measures adopted in the past which could not resolve the problem. If we want result the problem should be handled in a different way.
There is cause and effect for everything and it appears to me everybody is talking about the effect. But what is the cause? I can identify the lack of job in our country and this is the result of the poor handling of the economy by the former administration relating to availability of jobs. The myopic approach of administering the country has created several problems and there are more to be exposed in the near future.
Another problem is the greed of the elites and privileged people in our country who aside the lion share of the national resources available to them will do anything at all to destroy it. They are unpatriotic and are using their resources to influence those in authority or themselves to make more wealth for themselves at the great disadvantage of society.
With hind sight I thought the last military regime of the country should have killed many more of our people than they have done. The cry for the exit of the junta was to have the opportunity to perpetrate wrong doing using their ill gotten wealth and influence.
The kind of leadership required for this country is not what we have. We need men and women who are tough by virtue of experience, knowledge and insight to direct its affairs. The first President of the fourth Republic will continue to be the most populous and loved during our time because of his attitude to leadership. The laws are made for people and not people for the laws. Laws should enhance order, progress and prosperity. They must be also be geared towards resolving problems. Some of the recent laws are not forth looking and sooner we are called to make amendments; one wonders what times are the people who pass these laws are in. I suppose that every law should have very punitive regime to deter people and for the simple reason there are people who deliberately decide to be deviants. Probably we do not do this because those who pass these laws have premeditated minds to go on the blind sides of them. It is time for our people not to dwell too much on presidents but also parliamentarians; they are all elected by us. We should be rigorous and demanding from them to perform otherwise we remove them. The resources of this nation cannot continue to be spent on just few people without getting the commensurate reward.
Many of the problems we are grappling with now are spill overs from the past administration but the current administration will take the blame because the people don’t have the patience to live further into the same condition. We are actually in difficult times so it requires different approaches to dealing with the problems. Ghana should be better than what we have it today.
The foundation of this country is really weak and we can find the level of weakness if we take a holistic account of the state of the nation. Leaving it to the politician will get us no where; they are often compromised because of greed. The resources of the country go to them in very good measure but they are not satisfied. There are others who are not politicians but are powerful with political ties who call the shots. All these people have exploited poverty to their advantage and are those who will not wish that poverty leaves the society.
I have been reminded about the threat by some communicators of the NPP in Ashanti to withdraw their services from the party because of lack of job. In fact, there are many others in other parts of the country suffering the same fate. It is Ashanti because it is believed that is the strong hold of the party so voices from there are taken seriously. Ashanti alone have not been able to win political power for the party as we saw in 2008 and 2012. The party should cast its net wider in providing support for those who genuinely deserve it. The style of the NDC which waited until the eve of their exit before engaging some of their supporters through the back door should not be repeated by the NPP.
This development paintsa certain picture that after change of political power it is the core politicians and few associates who benefit from the change leaving majority who are not to their fates. This has been the routine for our nation at least since the fourth Republic. The high unemployment rate in the country has been a major determinant in the way people voted, hoping to get employed due to the promises by the NPP to create employment avenues. Even though the change has occurred it is pretty obvious that the realization of the objective will take some time. But how long can all these people wait expecting to be employed by new and existing jobs? The dire economic conditions predating the elections are still the same; prices of good and services have not changed for the better. It is in this context that these communicators from Ashanti in particular are asking their leadership to offer them jobs. It is frustrating and humiliating not to be earning any income. It is the worst thing that could happen to anybody especially if you are a family person where you are not able to play your social responsibility. The respect from the family and friends are lost entirely so it is wickedness for any government during our time to take actions or inactions which lead people to lose their livelihood.
Officials of the NDC who have contended that they have created about 900,000 direct and indirect jobs would have absorbed their foot soldiers and sympathizers. Where were the openings to push their people on the eve of their departure? Were these jobs part of the direct and indirect jobs they have created? Many of these people were getting free cash without working and as the party was exiting that free cash will not be forth coming so the tax payer has to be burdened to take up these unplanned expenses. Those of us working for politicians should be using these situations as learning points and know how we relate to them. For me I have learnt so much and if the situation does not change for the better we shall take a position which will inure to our benefits also the next time.
The twin words; efficiency and effectiveness have been the standard by which many things have been measured. It is not enough to have one without the other. By all means, any objective can be realized. It does not matter how it is realized but it is proper we compare one effort against another. This should be an area the Ghanaian voter should be measuring the politicians otherwise we will be doing ourselves great disservice. The NPP has raised the bar for now and this should be the yardstick for the next competition for power, all things being equal. We have worked as a nation for the benefit of the politicians and their cronies. Year in year out flamboyant promises are made for our upliftment but to no avail. We have been caught in a quagmire which we all need to agree to extricate ourselves from. Our fore bearers made huge sacrifices to handover a country free from political power. What sacrifices are we going to make in our time? The economic freedom we have placed on ourselves is too difficult to execute. We shall be failures with shame to only handover this country to generations after us in the state not well spoken of.
In a production economy, incomes can grow if there is enough consumption. If goods and services are produced and they are not consumed it will be difficult for revenues to be made for tax purposes. Otherwise we shall create what accountants call slow moving stocks or obsolete stocks. If Government is moving from taxation to production to grow the economy they should also be thinking of improving on consumption as well. If this is not given appropriate consideration our objective will not be achieved.
Prices of goods and services should be relatively low and affordable to increase consumptionfor production to respond accordingly. We should also be mindful of the effect scraping or reduction of taxes on imported goods can have on the foreign exchange regime. These are teasers being raised for policy makers to review.

What about our Parliamentarians? They work from morning to evening, they enjoy their weekends and holidays, including Christmas, Easter and other festivities. They foolishly endorse bad policies the saddle the nation with debt and cripple the economy. Yet they receive higher salaries, allowances and end of service benefits than the Doctors who save lives and ensure that citizens are strong enough to work and keep the economy going. If I had my way, our Parliamentarians would receive just half of the salaries of our Doctors.
