The Presidents' comments regarding the upgrading of aviation infrastructure is pure ignorance and a 'slap in the face' to the commercial aviation industry in Ghana.
The Ghanaian Federal Government is the SINGLE most destructive impediment to commercial airlines and airport infrastructure.
The FG CANNOT create stable, profitable and SAFE airlines - only the private sector can do that - AND the private sector will do it without taxpayer money.
If the 'government' would stop stealing and trying an activity they ZERO about - allow entrepreneurs to build profitable companies - REAL tax money would overflow the treasury - and there would be adequate monies to build NEW airports.
The FG should be told - forcefully - to 'get the hell out of the way', eliminate the stupid, deleterious fees, taxes, regulations, roadblocks - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - to keep their hands in their pockets and STOP robbing the airlines.
There is more than enough private money, and interest, to build a viable airline industry - the ONLY reason the industry is failing - is the interference by the FG!

Mr. Len Hobbs, please Ghana is a unitary state, not a federal state. And for Christ sake, Dr. Olumuyiwa, president of ICAO, your 'No Country Left Behind' initiative shouldn't be a copy cat of George Bush's failed No Child Behind policy. That said, ICAO should assist Ghana to solidify its domestic aviation, construct airports throughout the nation to allow Ghanaian businessmen & women to make the ODOF policy a reality.
Madam Cecilia Dapaah, the Minister of Aviation should focus on developing the infrastructure for our domestic aviation, make it the best in the subregion.
Competing for the international aviation market - British airways, KLM, Delta, Lufthansa, Emirate Airways, Ethiopia Air, South African airways & Malaysia airlines wouldn't be
sustainable.
The prestige of having an international airline wouldn't serve the nation.

It is not true that "Everywhere air transportation has become very cheap". You have to factor in the cost of aviation insurance.
