  The incessant suicide of girls come as a result of broken hearted in the wake of their boy freinds cheating on them.It is becoming increasingly obvious that if serious action is not taken,there would be,a contagion which may get rip of our future career ladies and mothers

  it is understandable that there are so many emotions and expressed attitude towards this tragedy.Even in the most advanced countries like the US- the battle has not been won yet. Suicide is on the rise and not decreasing. The medical science is clear- over 90 % of suicide is associated with mental health disorders- usually in severe cases, just as majority of people with stroke is a complication severe hypertension . Both can be "silent killers" because contrary to popular beliefs there does not have o be any outward signs before the complication
  In the case of hypertension there is some sucess in the battle to teach the lay world to get their blood pressure taken periodically and also lower ( no eliminate) the risk by reducing lifestyle contributing factors like-proper diet and appropriate exercise. In the case of hypertension there is no societal shame cast over it. Even those who do not follow their treatment and end up with complications are received with compassion. They are not criminalized.
  In the case of mental illnesses like Depression, it is fraught with religious and cultural shaming, misunderstanding, confusing the illness "depression' with the normal state of sadness and when some succumb to the worst complication of suicide attempt -they are charged as criminals! With the advance technology of most people or their family members have access to the internet- check what the World Health Organization( WHO) says about mental health,educate yourself and educate those around you.
  It will go a long way in saving lives. No one calls for their illness. It is a pity if shaming and lack of education about an illness prevent the opportunity for treatment
  As a psychiatrist in the US with over 25 years hearing from a broad spectrum of people from various socioeconomic class and cultures- i know the task is huge- even in such a technologically advanced society many people i see have had previous episodes, not recognizing or too ashamed to present while their quality of life has been affected in spite of intellectual abilities and socioeconomic class.
  Lets not wait to go through this path- Ghana is a small country comparatively and with our strong social media network ,we can spread the word quickly as we do other issues- Depression is areal disease- with known treatments.
  If you recognize persistent changes in your way of thinking- things seem to be more hopeless than usual, blame yourself for everything,life seems unbearable,or you cannot feel love evn if it is around you- these are some of early symptoms of depression - not just when tears are rolling. Tears never killed anyone- it is what goes on in our minds that no one can read. Tell the same doctor? nurse that you would have approached for your malaria
  We do not call for our illness . one of the greatest misconception is that there must be a stressful event- no. The person with Diabetes did not get it because of their diet or weight. No, it is because they have a genetic risk of having it. The diet may have increased chance of being manifested but not absolutely necessary
  Lets all do our part in improving knowledge about these illnesses and have compassion

  Hmmm. these students these days and thier snake under grass act. it might be love matters, instead of them studying they will be doing cat and mouse act.
