I was in primary school when I watched a match between the Kumasi Asante Kotoko and a British team. The world's renowned footballer at that time was Stanley Matthews, who also played for the British team. I remember vividly, how James Agyei dribbled and demolished Stanley Matthew at the Kumasi sports stadium. For this reason, James Agyei has history for Ghana soccer but I will not go to the extent of crowning him as the king of Ghana soccer. surely, Baba Yaro, Salisu, Abdul Razak, Abedi Pele and many others are forces to reckon with.

This is a fact. Other African countries said he used voodoo, Nigerians called him the man with 3 feet, we called him the wizard, the British called him George Best of Africa. He scored 4 goals against the world's best goal keeper at that time (Gordon Banks) of Stoke City, he was offered a huge contract to join Stoke City, this was at a time racial discrimination was at it peak, 3 times he took Ghana to the Olympics, 2 successive times he was the star in the Black Stars team that won the cup back to back. Oh God, ManFriday! no one like him on planet earth.

Believe me no one has his skills. He had control of the whole field, determined the pace of play, set up his teams moves and was strategically at all vintage points. He could score goals and could also assist team mates to score. Edward Acquah, Mfum and Kwasi Owusu benefited immensely from the wizard dribbler. He was a marvel on the ball. Abedi was first 3 times best African Footballer of the year of all times, a record brokdn by a non Ghanaian. No other Ghanaian made it 3 like Abedi. Abedi was rich yet all-time committed to the development of Ghana football
Abedi's legacy continue to live on. He's still remembered relevant though his children's current contribution to Ghana.
Abedi's feat is accorded like Prez Dr. Kwame Nkrumah rather more popular in the world than Kwame Nkrumah Ghana.

Abedi Pele lost 3 times in a row to master Kofi nti of KumasI high school as best colts footballer of the year. He can't be the best
Razak Brimah is the greatest.
HAve so soon forgotten Robert Mensah the greatest national goalie
JUST LISTEN TO MY POINT. LET US SEE GHANA'S BEST ALL-TIME ELEVEN, AND HERE IS MY PICK.
ROBERT MENSAH, DAN OPPONG, OLIVER ACQUAH, SAMPSON LAMPTEY, ADDO ODAMETEY, (KUUKU DADZIE)IBRAHIM SUNDAY, OSEI KOFI, DAN OWUSU, GEORGE AL ...

're: where's Jordan ayew
Mohammed Polo is the greatest
Abedi Pele is the greatest player ever in Ghana. He was the dribbling machine, he played both local and foreign. He showed all his class in all these.
I tip him for the Golden glory.
But he lost 3 times to as best colts footballer of the year awads to master Kofi nti. He can't be the best
You may be right but Abedi went on in his career to achieve greater heights. No footballer in the history of the country is as popular as Abedi Pele.
If U did not see Osei Kofi, U have missed the show. What Abedi did is just a child's play compared to what Osei did. Intelligence with the ball, there is no match, not even Messi.
You must be crediting Abedi pele with your own sense of selective popularity.. Many of the comments here are coming from all age groups and including those of us who have seen all the players aforementioned. Why cant you trus ...

A.gyan is the best player in the history of Ghana. He is the countries top scorer and deserves to be called the best in Ghana.
pele no size any prson at all apart from him is pop skini
I missed a friend Nana darkwa, if its you (basha) 0268 179757 Kwame.
How about SHAMO QUAYE
I think Mohammed Polo is the all time best. He
has all the qualities
I am the obvious choice.
I think Rev Osei Kofdi is the all time best player.
Look, it is Abedi Pele. There's no need for a debate.
The best was Joe Sam. He played for Eleven Wise and Kotoko. He was a wizard.
Don't forget kwasi owusu and dan owusu
Do any of you know ADOLF ARMAH? At least he should be in the top 6. if Adolf had not retired Abedi's wouldn't have any chance. Find out from the average Nigerian in the 1980 or 1982 African cup of Nations.
Without any doubt in my mind, I will go for Polo. The finest player to grace our pitch.God Bless him and God bless Ghana,
What about the African pele i mean Amusa Gbadamoshie.he is the only African player who was put neck to neck with the world Pele
Do not let us forget about the likes of Sani Abdullahi. Goal na ma fe fe anye adjesi. We still have a lot of players like Essel Mensah, Boye Owusu, Tetteh Chandu, John Eshun, Issac Eshun, Oliver Acquah, Mama Acquah. A lot of ...

The best among the best s Osei Kofi. He was wonderful. He could change obvious defeat into a sweet victory. He was intelligent and efficient. he hardly made mistakes. He could score goals and could also assist team mates to s ...

Very well written account of the abilities of Osei Kofi. I saw him play numerous times in Kumasi when I was young and I agree with your assessment.
The Greatest Player before Independence was James Adjei. I saw Stanley Mathews and James Adjei on the opposing sides in a friendly. James was Magic. Well let me throw in some few Ghana Great Footballers. Baba Yara, Aggrey Fyn ...

Obviously, it was Baba Yara !
Yara, Osei Kofi, Mfum, James Adjei, Kwame Adarkwa, Salisu & Sunday made Kotoko the Fabulous Porcupines.

Aggrey-Fynn as captain could virtually play every position on the field, except probably as goalkeeper. Whenever the Black Stars were in trouble, he delivered the goods by covering every blade of grass.
Not true. Aggrey Fynn never played not would play the defense nor the midfield. stop making up stories
yeah my dad told me about JAMES ADJEI THE MOST LETHAL SKILFUL PLAYER
Osei Kofi
In terms of achievements,Asamoah Gyan should be considered. He has taken the Black Stars to three successive world cups; he is the leading African goal scorer in the World Cup; he has played in three continents: Africa, Europ ...

For those who watched football in the 60s till date,Baba Yara to me, was the greatest. The problem is the generation gaps which makes this question indeed very dificullt.
KWASI OWUSU OF TANO BOFOAKWA WELL KNOWN AS POWER HOUSE CAPTAINED THE GHANA BLACK STARS FOR 9 GOOD YEARS.DON'T ALSO FORGET IBRAHIM SUNDAY.
a better and fairer way is to divide the 60year period into say 3periods.
1957-1976
1977-1996
1997-2017
then for each period pick
5 best forward liners
3 best midfielders
3 best defenders and
2 best goalies
then we ...

Asamoah Gyan? What has he achieved for Ghana? These money crazy Ghanaian players have not even won a 'clay' cup for the nation. They are not imbued with any sense of patriotism. It is money, money, money and nothing else.
Kwasi Owusu aka Power house
The debate is worthwhile, but generation gap makes it difficult for proper comparison of players.
LET US NOT WASTE TIME. ABEDI PELE IS JUST THE PERSON.
just because U did not see Osei Kofi.
THE BEST FOOTBALLER IN GHANA'S HISTORY IS OSEI KOFI. UNLIKE MANY PLAYERS THE WIZARD DRIBBLER WAS NOT SELFISH. HE MADE MFUM A BETTER GOAL SCORER BECAUSE HE DESTROYED THE POSSING DEFENCE AND GAVE MFUM THE BALL TO JUST SHOOT TO ...

You definitely know Ghana football! Abedi was and still is a cancer on Ghana football. Very selfish and egoistic. Is him or the highway, hence Ghana's inability to reach any heights. I think Razak, Polo and Robert Mensah in b ...

Do not forget players like Malik Jabir, Razak, Sunday Ibrahim, Mohammed Polo all of whom were very great inspiration to Ghana football.
ITS ABEDI PELE SIMPLE
The Guy who couldn't pass the ball to team mates such as Tony Yeboah?
I love Asamoah Gyan. However, I don't think he belongs to this category.
Thanks.
Black Stars immaculate defender Oblitey was the best.
Africa's NO.1 GOAL KEEPER Robert mensah was the best.
I agree with you!
What about Adolf Amal and Opoku Afriyie not forgetting the back cat Duodu Ankra, Ghana's finest goal keeper.
Pl give it to Osei Kofi or Baba Yara. My seminal choice will be Osei Kofi and his dribbling and goal scoring prowess. Current youngsters have no idea about the inherent talent of Mr Osei Kofi. When the match is deemed to be ...
