There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults.This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States, Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.

Most incompetent company in Ghana. They pay nothing for raw materials...water. Instead of protecting their source of raw materials, all they do is pay bribe to PURC and MPs so they can use increments to cover their incompetence. By law they are supposed to charge Gh2.98 per 1000ltrs and 5.07 for more than 6000ltrs. But once one hits anything above 5000ltrs, one is charged 5.07 per 1000ltrs instead of 2.98 for the first 5000ltrs and then 5.07 per every 1000ltrs above 5000ltrs. What's even more criminal is the fact that the inability of a GWCL official to read one's meter on time (say if a meter is read a week late) may result in one paying more if that results in one's reading crossing the 5000ltr mark. Thieves

Enough Ghanaians do other like reading and basic arithmetic so GWCL plays on the ignorance of its clients to extort good money from us. The knowledgeable ones are treated with "contempt". They used incremental rates for specific ranges of consumption and then suddenly, jumped to the current strategy as Enyo explained. PURC announces approved rates but they have not announced the change in categories used since14th December, 2015. GWCL reads meters in the middle of the month but bills for each calendar month (1st to 31st) . All these make for planned extortion of users. What do they do with all that money??? They have been negligent in proactively protecting the sources of water in conjunction with EPA, and relevant GoG institutions so galamsey thrives, MMDAs release liquid waste into water bodies feeding these sources, farming is done along river banks, community solid waste gets into the rivers and not only. What is the use of GWCL raising tariffs to buy expensive chemicals to process water when more people keep polluting the sources due to ignorance or the negative" I do not care" mentality. GWCL without water is a nonentity and is killing itself by not thinking holistically and out of the box with all the many professionals they have. Stop intimidating us. They may have bought PURC hence their approach. Ghanaians should think deeply about these things and Parliament also. ECG and others may follow suit.
