Thanks to my teachers who didn't spare the rod but straightened me to make me who I am today. Students are pampered too much these days.

On Monday morning, the teacher walked to the blackboard and noticed someone had written the word "penis" in tiny letters. She turned around, but couldn't find the guilty face. She quickly erased it and began her class.
Tuesday, she was again greeted with "penis" on the blackboard, written in larger letters. She looked around in vain for the culprit, and then proceeded with the day's lesson.
Every morning for the rest of the week, "penis" was written on the board in larger and larger letters, and each time, the teacher furiously erased it. By Friday, she'd had enough.
"That's enough," she sputtered. "I -- I can't believe this! Monday morning, I expect an explanation for this behavior!"
On Monday morning, the teacher confidently entered the classroom and found on the board: "Don't you know -- the more you rub it, the bigger it gets?"

IF YOU WANT A NINE YEAR OLD GIRL TO TELL A TEACHER, NO MATTER HOW OLD THE TEACHER IS, "I WILL SLAP YOU", THEN GO AHEAD AND THREATEN TEACHERS WITH PUNITIVE MEASURES. I'm happy you mention 1 thing the westerners are ahead of us haha. We need to promote freedom and that does not mean there is no limit to what they can do. This will help them to be innovative, self confidence, happy. Trust me without the heart being happy you can't do anything positive and that is what the kids need

No teacher is foolish enough just to cane pupils to pulp. Until better alternatives are suggested, the cane is what most Ghanaian pupils are afraid of - more than their teachers themselves. Until a better way is found, teachers are most often left with no alternatives. The GERS must come out with more effective ways of punishing disruptive pupils.
In the meantime, I would suggest that any pupil that is due to be caned should go home and bring their parents to receive the punishment on their behalf! That may be acceptable by many!!

Corporal punishment is important in the disciplining of children. Excessive use of the cane must be frowned upon, but what happens in our schools is nothing to demand blanket ban.
When we were at school, what most of us feared most was the shame of being punished. For that reason, we would do everything possible to avoid punishment. In our particular year group, and in those days before electricity was introduced in our village, we did our homework together in the house of one of our mates whose mother would not deny us the use of her kerosene lamp for however long we needed it. And sometimes we would be at it till 1.00 am. But we would always get the homework ready for the day it was needed - sometimes several days in advance so that we would not present any shabby work to our teacher.
For misbehaving, it was out of the question. Anybody who was punished for misbehaviour would lose membership of our group! The cane was not our friend. And we maintained that throughout the last 5 years of elementary school. The fear of the cane put us on the straight and narrow course.

Please do Ghanaian teachers also have right? If they do, stop stocking the classroom with 60-75 pupils in one class than the normal 25-30 pupils by the law. One teacher cannot control, teach, mentor, judge, nurse, supervise, advice, mark, direct, etc such a number in one class without stepping on toes. Fight for the teacher when fighting for the pupils as well because we are all human. Shalom!!!

U run from the very place u have made worst to the west to enjoy real life with your kids. I will continue to use the cane, because I don't hate the kids,..after all what do I get from them?? I even spends a lot of money on them. (Books, food, uniforms and the rest). I know my reward is in even and God knows it that I'm just strengthening them.

I suggest GES should give a number of canes (say, three) maximum. But if we say teachers should not deciplain them at all I think is not the right way. Go to South Africa and see the kind of future they have.
Besides the PRO did not talk about children who misconduct themselves and the right purnishment to be given to them. Let us not copy western.
