  The word "corruption", is too nebulous a word. In each instance of "corruption", will be an act which is criminal. We are currently being told that the Executive Secretary of PURC directed that a huge sum of money be deposited into his personal bank account. This is theft. There is already a law that makes theft a criminal offence. We have had a rebuttal from the Executive Secretary, stating that the idea to deposit the money into his account was from someone else and was made for convenience. Unbelievable! In other instances of corruption, state owned vehicles have been sold to certain people, in a way contrary to laid down law. Surely, laws already exist to remedy such acts. Theft is theft. Fraudulent conversion is fraudulent conversion. The enforcement of laws must not be based on one's political affiliation. I still remember a case in which a former Chairman of the Civil Service was prosecuted for causing financial loss to the state. I still scratch my head when he went into court and pleaded not guilty, but then added that.if the court finds him guilty, he is willing to refund the money. The money involved was about 17 billion cedis. How a former civil servant would come up with 17 billion cedis was never addressed. Law enforcement and law adherence is a joke in Ghana! The laws already exist. The question is whether we have the political will to enforce those laws. I agree with Justice Short, but I submit that we can use existing laws to discourage criminality.

The Ghanaian politician makes strange laws that will benefit him. How on earth will u make a law that will allow you to buy state vehicles at a fraction of the actual price. How ridiculous. And we say they are honourable
