To the best of my understanding, the free shs is just a political strategy. The idea was to give the Southern part of Ghana the same advantage of free shs as the Northern enjoys. The second point is also for certain politicians to steal the oïl money. The reason why I'm saying this is that it has been 10 years Nana Addo has advocated for free.I don't see any logic to debate a programme that has been in the pipeline for years. What was NPP thinking when they were campaigning for the free shs?Now listen, lack of transparency breeds corruption. That's exactly what happened in Nigeria some time ago when they decided to finance mass free education without transparency.
Don't worry be happy.

Why did d author give d stats for only d northern portion of d country and not d rest of it. Would like to know how many students in each region enters d senior secondary school.I am in favour of d cancellation of d entry exams because they are grossly unfair and a hindrance to progress.some of d wealthy get their kids into a school of choice without partaking in d exams by simply buying off d school personell.there is no level playing field in d system and there will never be unless we change d rotten system.

All those advocating for the cancellation of BECE should tell us the criteria that will be used to determine who enters which school. Remember that the SHSs available will also not be enough to admit all the JHS graduants, and that the reality is that some of the schools are more endowed than others. Let those advocating for the cancellation of the BECE agree that their children will sacrifice to attend Bankyiase Secondary school while they allow others from our villages to enroll freely and straightaway without competition into the Achimotas, Mfantsipims, WEYGEYHEYs, Adisadels, Prempehs and so on. Let these greedy guys who think they have the money to send their kids abroad to just give us a CRITERIA for selection into various schools and we shall listen to their so-caleed brilliant ideas.

The Free SHS should be an incentive for responsible parents to push their young ones at the JHS level. Because, a pass will ensure free SHS and perhaps, an avenue to get admission into a good school. Why should the nation spend money on pupils who are not serious with their lessons? Of what use will their attending SHS with dumb grades, be to the nation.

What most of you don't know about the northern scholarship is that they benefit from only feeding fees. All other charges are borne by parents; Thus, it is not surprising students in boarding schools pay not less than 300 cedis per term in the northern schools. Even with only the feeding fees in the northern schools which are proportionally small in numbers, governments from the Rawlings era through Kuffuor to the present have always found it extremely difficult to make timely payments, thus affecting the academic calendar, and consequently the performance of the students. I shudder to think of what the problems will be for a countrywide total free SHS; especially its feasibility and sustainability in this trying and difficult world economic downturn. Hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!
