The Nkrumaist should blame opportunists among their ranks for their demise. Nkrumah was done in by elements within his party - the breakaway group which eventually peaked as the NDC.

Until they have sat down and critically analyzed what happened to them CPP and other Nkrumaist parties would never know who their real enemies are. Their real enemies were buried deep within their ranks, the disaffected group that had fallen out of favour with Nkrumah. And this was not the UP tradition but a recessive group, one time led by Gbedema and Tawia Adamafio, whose cause was picked up by Kotoka, Denu, Afrifa, Harley, Ankrah etc. Those NLC guys were not UP traditionalists, but a disaffected and disenchanted subgroup from within the CPP apparatus. Don't make no mistake, Rawlings was a latter day foot soldier and admirer of this group. Hence, his overthrow of the successor party of the CPP, the PNP gov't, led by Limann and the killing of Acheampong, two true Nkrumaists. He didn't stop there we also saw what Rawlings did to Ackaah his first vice-president another thorough bred Nkrumaist as well as how he constantly hounded and chewed at the heels of Atta Mess until his death.

We can't close the books without also looking at the weak knee Nkrumaists like Atta Mess, Kwesi Pratt, the Ahwois, etc who bend over to lick his ass. Point blank Nkrumah's party was effectively dismantled by Rawlings to build his NDC. And he in turn had been inspired in part to take up the cause of Gbedemah and some Ewe nationalists who felt Nkrumah had not done their tribesman a fair deal, given that but for Gbedemah, the CPP would have been vanquished when Nkrumah was languishing in prison., only for him to come back, win the battle for independence, but then eventually ran Gbedemah out of the country into exile.

NDC must die for the CPP tradition to rise up again, or else forget it. There is no room for a third party in Ghana. Proof is that, consistently in the 4th republic all parties together have never been able to garner more than 2% of the votes combined. It is not happening.
