I think one of the leading cause premature deaths in Ghana is food poisoning. The ministry of health and the NCCE should as a matter of urgency set up a commission to sturdy and analyze a new way of improving the civic education to curb the menace. In the era of social media, there should be more emphasis on the use of social media to help educate the public and the food vendors the risks involved by adding chemical substances and additives to foodstuffs in their quest to maximize their profits. The FDB should also increase their Human Resources on the field inspections to go round and inspect every food stuff and meat products that has the potential of attracting additives for storage or to increase its quantity. The FDB has placed too much emphasis on the pharmaceutical sector and neglected the area of the locally produced food sector completely.

Well said stephen I have also aired the issue about food poisoning here before. I don't know what ghanaweb.com does with comments here. There should be a representative to get some of these good comments to the needed authorities for solutions. Else there is no need as the site comments are full of insults and unnecessary chaff.

What the learned Prof said is just a tip of the iceberg. Formalin does not only stop dead bodies from decomposing....it stops oxidation that is necessary for dead tissues to rot. So frozen chicken & fish, sausages, meat, fruits, vegetables and virtually all preserved foods are often illegally laced with the known carcinogen, Formalin. TO SUGGEST THAT WE SINK FORMALIN-TAINTED FOOD IN SALT & WATER ( IN 10:90% RATIO ) ISN'T THE RIGHT WAY FORWARD. WE NEED TO STOP USING A CHEMICAL USED FOR EMBALMING DEAD BODIES IN ALL FOODS, NOT ONLY KOOBI. THAT'S OPTION NUMBER ONE. FUNERAL UNDERTAKERS ARE KNOWN TO DIE FROM FORMALIN-RELATED CANCER. INHALING THE SUBSTANCE & CONTACT WITH SKIN IS ENOUGH TO CAUSE SERIOUS FORMS OF CANCER, INCLUDING BRAIN DETERIORATION. THAT'S WHY UNDERTAKERSN & MORTUARY MEN DIE PREMATURELY & ARE OFTEN THOUGHT TO BE "MENTALLY" DISTURBED. FORMALIN IS THE CAUSE.

Prof. You can find technical institutions in sweden, south korea, canada, japan to open their branches in Ghana to train CNC operators, welding engineers and 3D designers and programmers so that our technical universities students could go there for world class technical education. These institutions could manage their labotories and workshops well instead of our public technical institutions.

Indeed traders always want a longer self life and poisoning Koobi is sadly what they have come up with as the solution. My advice to everyone is to salt your own and stop buying Koobi from the markets.

Professor Boateng should lobby to get a law passed against traders using this Chemical "FORMALYIN" on foods and meats. This is serious business, let's don't casually talk about it and leave it at that.

Okay go ahead and talk to researchers who no next to nothing about farming or fishing. Nonsense, change indeed!!!!
