If the student is 18 year or over, his/her written permission is required before his/her parents can access the results. Otherwise, he/she has the right to prohibit release of the results to the parents.

I completed Legon School of Admin (now Business School) in 1988, did one-year national service at Berekum District Administation, went to Germany in late 1989 for further studies and came to Canada from Germany in April 1994 to study further and settled permanently.

Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), currently serving as Director of Finance and Admin in a reputable outfit with global presence, and also double as part-time lecturer in accounting and auditing related subjects.

I recall encouraging this geological eng guy to give the second semester of his first year the best shot after he trailed two courses in the first. Today he is a PhD holder.

Suicidal thoughts and actions are very serious issues and we as a nation must take it seriously. Religious and student organizations should take the matter serious.

But parents are an integral part of the child's formative years. So long as the parents are responsible, financial and otherwise, for the child's education, they do have a RIGHT to know how the child is performing. You and I know that there is a lot of "rubbish" here when it comes to parent/child relationship. They do not know where to draw the lines.

I pray there was no foul play and a thorough investigation is conducted to ascertain the real cause of death.

If all the facts as stated in this story are to be believed, it should serve as a note of caution to all parents who try to live vicariously through their kids and expect perfection from them. Not all kids are able to bear that kind of stress.

The fact that failing one subject seemed like the end of the world to that poor girl says a lot about our educational system.

I've heard of cases where some teachers have purposely failed young girls who refuse to give in to their advances and pass those that do. I hope that's not the case here, but it is a very real possibility.

Parents must also be careful when it comes to academic works of their children and encourage them. Many of my past students who are doing well in their fields were not my best students. Some Faculties taught some of these students will never graduate but today these faculties are consulting for them in their businesses. May she rest in peace

In the first place, how can Ghanaweb lock a computer from visiting this site? NO WAY. There is no way Ghanawbe can block a computer from visiting the site. The only thing Ghanaweb may do is BLACKLIST the IP Address of a person used, but then since IP-Address are dynamically assigned by the ISP, BLACKLISTING will have no effect. This is because the IP address actually belongs to the ISP and not the subscriber.

Blocking the MAC address may work, but web applications cannot access MAC addresses (except some .EXE or .VBS application ie a virus, has sneaked onto the usesr PC), and even Ghanaweb could access my MAC address and block my computer, I only have to replace my NETWORK ADAPTER, and bingo I have a new MAC address.

Students in Ghana are left unsupported by Universities. Counselling is often non existent or poor, mostly provided by lecturers who are busy with academic work and have no time to meet students rather than full time professional counsellors.

It took me two weeks while I was studying at Cape Vars to get an appointment with a counsellor and when I finally got one, it lasted only 10mins with no outcome. I went to see the doctor and was told the it not a medical problem so I was dispatched with paracetamol. In the UK, I could walk into the student support centre at anytime and there is someone to talk talk-a professional counsellor.

I will encourage her parents to set up a student support charity in her honour. Her father who is an MP could use this grief and sympathy from his colleagues to het a legislation through parliament making it a legal requirement for all secondary and tertiary institutions in Ghana to have qualified counselling services accessible to students at all times.

This brilliant girl is only 18years and found herself away from home and having to deal with such level of stress on her own. Is this any wonder?

Apart From Urging The Police To Conduct A Thorough Investigation Into This Sad Incidence,I Think Our Universities Should Reconsider Their Means Of Publishing Examinations Results Whereby They Are Posted On Bulletin Boards At Their Administration Offices And Halls.I Quite Remember This Was The Practice In UCC.The Worst Was Posting List Of Names Of Non-performing Students Who Were Dismissed Openly At The Halls. I Don't Know How This Young Lady's Failed Results Were Communicated To Her To Make Her Unable To Handle The Shame And Commit Suicide But Posting Results Openly Is Not The Best So Our Tertiary Institutions Should Seriously Reconsider That And Make Changes.Also The Academic Councsellors Should Be More Supportive To Struggling Students Not Only Academically But Also Emotionally.

There should be a thorough Medical and C.I.D investigation in this tragedy in order to prevent future disasters.
Government may help all higher institutions to establish students support professionals, mainly recruited psychologists (sufficient numbers) where students can consult free of charge at any time.
The support centre could also cater for lecturers who may need assistance. There could be a compulsory day or half day forum for lecturers on best practices.
The students support center could also send appropriate information documents to parents and students at the beginning of each academic year.
Ghana Educational System is still one of the best. Maybe we can improve certain aspects.
We need to accompany students and lecturers with the required resources.
We are living in a modern society were expectations are too high for a lot. Most people are not able to cope or adapt to their situations; family environment, marriage, dating, at work, at church,,,etc.
It is time we recruit psychologists at various institutions and working places for free consultations.
Most clergymen and Imams have little time for psychological support.
Most parents need help themselves.

May God Strengthen the entire family during these painful days .

I think it is high time people should take things serious. This problem has nothing to with politics, when people are sad you foolishly say it is the president, that will not scare the president from working.
