Ben is irresponsible in saying Black Sough Africans are lazy. The problem is more complex than meets the eye and it's not only in South Africa but across the world. Here in the UK foreigners are made scapegoats by the unemployed citizens, especially white British working class who lost out in the new economy when factories disappeared and are unwilling to do other low paid jobs. It's the same thing happening in South Africa.

The arrival of foreigners who are more educated and qualified resulted in competition for jobs and it's those better qualified foreigners who got the jobs. Another problem is low wages as foreigners are willing to accept lower pay as in the case of South Africa. It's therefore wrong for Ben to tag Black South Africans as lazy.

The questions is why don't the South Africans use the same courage and energy they are using to attack foreigners setting up their own small shops.

I won't generalize, though, but all 3 South Aricans I met in Germany were all VERY LAZY. None of them was ready to work. I would get up at 4:30 am and get ready to work before attending lectures BUT they woud sleep until 8:30, get up and go to the social office to have their dole (called sozialhilfe in German) paid.

I think Ben should have qualified his comment that "Most of the South African youth are lazy." To say they are lazy gives the impression that all of them are lazy. And they are lazy because they lack the basic skills and education through no fault of theirs. They need to be educated as a community. If you come to the UK, or anywhere in Europe, you will see that all the so-called dirty jobs are done by foreigners and not the locals. In the same token the foreigners in SA are prepared to do any job, save enough from the scanty wages from those jobs and move forward to establish better jobs for themselves. Ben is basically correct in what he said, but maybe he could have said it in a more sensitive way, assuming the media has not misquoted him. After reading all the comments, it seems to me that most of those attacking Ben without clarifying or offering suggestions are naive, ignorant, misinformed or just plain stupid. In my days in Ghana, there were uncountable Technical schools (for the boys) and Vocational or Secretarial schools (for the girls). Where are these today? The Ghanaian youth are hungry for skills but no where to turn to, so as a last resort they travel to look for green pastures. Raymond, your stupid comments tell me that either you lack world affairs, general knowledge or you are just plain stupid. No matter how good our country is, people will still travel for various reasons. Please if you can think far, leave the topic and the discussion to those who can. Ben, as a citizen, has every right to express his opinion constructively as he did. Each and everyone of has the same right to do so, constructively. Not stupidly.

The fact is they just came out Apartheid where they have been oppressed and denied opportunity to school. Yes they had their independence in 1994 but Ghana would be 60 years on 6th March and what have we achieved? I condemn the xenophobic attacks on innocent people but heightening the tension would no bring us any good and such comments would let them start to target Ghanaian specifically. Please allow diplomatic channels to address the challenges at hand.

Compared to their white and Indian counterparts there is a huge gap. I spend much time managing the blacks than the whites. It's sad but that is the reality. Each day I contemplate firing one or the other but if I do the value of those who will come in will not be different. They expect manner to come from heaven without seating for it.

Ewes don't hate the Ashantis or Akans. We have more than 23 different language groups in the Volta region, including enclaves of Akan settlers. Despite this ethnic diversity in the Volta region, we see ourselves as brothers and sisters and even vote as one people. After all, it was the Ewes who set up the Asante nation through the Ewe spiritualist- Okomfo from Notsie(Okomfo Anokye), and again taught them the art of weaving the kente cloth. Those Ashantis who have ever lived with the Ewes in the Volta region can testify that Ewes are very friendly and godfearing. The problem comes from the other side which is largely illiterate.
