Was it a case of preventing others to rise so as to remain relevant? Greed and supressing others are certainly not for intelligent people. Just read the article and fine that Amoako Baah is not intelligent at all. You are due for retirement go home and you are saying that no professors in department because I refused to nurture people to take over from me so let me be there. PNDC dont be so blinded with partisan politics or your party will one day put a rope in your nose yet will still be happy that you have become a partisan cow.

We are no defenders of Professor Amoako-Baah, and fairness, competence, and the interest of students learn, to be critical of all thoughts and ideas.

We know for a fact that many times Amoako-Baah breached academic freedom and waded needlessly, unprofessionally, into political/party matters.

Still, we want to be careful about the kind of Ghana want for ourselves, our siblings, other Ghanaians, Africans, and the World.

It is one thing to argue for "performance," and breaching academic freedom relates to performance. But, it is another to argue for "...opposition party on all plattforms...", unless there was fairness, balance, and objectivity.

There is difference!

That is not right, if, while there are not enough professors to handle the work load, Prof Amoako Baah is let go simply because of his politics, unless his politics interfered with his work/performance.

Prof Amoako-Baah does not offer any argument for change in the foolish law that retires without recourse to performance, that is the sadder part about the whole thing.

Instead onver the years, he was arguing that the entire Ghana education system was "almost useless", while he was still a top-echelon member.

Ans so, Prof Amoako-Baah, in the current report, never argues against the foolish provision in the law that practically sacks people with the most experience simply because of age.

That law is dumb given demographic changes. In the 21st century, that ought to stop.

Here is some research findings for Akufo Addo and his government, another reason for revising the Constitution without further delay:

"...The population (of Ghanaians) aged 60 years or over tripled from its number in 1950 to 600 million in 2000, and by 2006, the number of older persons had surpassed 700 million, while current projections suggest that by 2050, 2 billion older persons will be alive, implying that their number will once again triple over a span of 50 years [1]...". (Jonathan Chuks Mba, Professor, Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana, (www.hindawi.com/journals/jar/2010/672157/).

But that is the sort of thing academic freedom protects, when that is the object of a challenge.

In this article Amoako-Baah never says let's change that law, President Akufo Addo. Instead, he is talking all about himself.

That is the sadder part of the whole thing, in our view.

It is a normal practice for lectures all over the world to comment on national issues and contribute to national development. However, what I do understand is that these lecturers, especially in the western world, maintain neutrality. They don't speak on behalf for a particular party or affiliate themselves to a party in public. They look at both sides of the coin. Dr. Baah has clearly demonstrated that he belongs to a party and has numerous occasions defended and spoken for a particular party, eventually became like a pseudo-spokeperson for that party. I personally think the university is not comfortable with his actions and decided not to extend his contract.

As a political scientist, you should know best that if you take the establishment on, they will retaliate in kind. And this is just not about the NDC. Try it on the NPP and you will get a similar response. Some of us thought that you were being a fool. If you want to take on the government, do so from a position of strength; such as now that you are retired and not from a position of vulnerabilty. An extension of your contract beyond retirement is a privilege and not a right. You earn a privilege by being nice to the person giving you the privilege and not by being critical of them.
I hope other foolish lecturers will learn a lesson.
