Why , is that Ghanaians don't like the truth, what the minister is saying is right. How can you write exams and u get 10% over and over , and are still retain as the leader or head of the institution, they have to sack u as a head. You are being appointed as a head or to achieve result. If the school needs logistics that will make the school do well,it's the responsibility of the head to make sure the school gets them. Sometimes we should have target to achieve. Most of these headmasters don't do anything, not innovative at all.

It is the hypocrisy of teachers that has brought standard of education low. If you know you have problems why don't you make them known to the public and the public inturn will put pressure on the politicians. You teachers will always pretend everything is alright thereby shielding the politicians. Is it not true that most so called trained teachers cannot teach the very subjects they were trained to teach? I had the greatest shock of my life when an English teacher, in one of the secondary schools in Ghana, told her students that Professional teachers are not trained to teach but to manage the educational sector. The reason was that she was not able to teach well and that prompted her students to question her teaching method. Could you imagine that this lady was always teaching the same students phonetics from Form 1 to Form Three, without other relevant topics like grammar, comprehension, summary, etc?
Cronyism is another factor bedeviling the educational system in Ghana. I know a secondary with a student population of 2000. By the GES quota, this school is having tutor population of 100. Could you believe that 60 of these teachers have background in social studies education and guidance and counseling and all these teachers have full bangallows on campus. The remaining 40 teachers, most of them crowded in their bungalows, are assigned to the Business, Science, Agric and Home Econs classes. This very school has no permanent chemistry tutor and the head relies on NSS personnel. The Physics tutor read Agric Science at the university.

In Ghana nobody wants to be held responsible for failures when standard of education keep falling, when corruption is rife in our system. Figure of govt business headed by Chief Executives and head of departments at all ministries has become an accepted norm. Things ought to change, else Ghana can achieve any national progress. H.E. Nana Alufo-Addo 's free SHS program will not succeed when reachers or heads of schools fail to dedicate themselves to good teaching service to pupils for good learning that would bring good results. Barely one month after assuming office, the new govt, led by H.E., $55 million has been allocated to Schools for the provision of books. Govt has also pledged to improve the conditions of service of teachers in Ghana by providing incentives among others. What GNAT should understand is that the change that Ghanaians are yearning for demand dedicated service and accountability on the part of teachers and all govt workers including civil society. Gone are the days when govt workers loiter and lazy about at work places. The new change demands for hard work seriousness on the job, so GNAT better take notice.!

The minister can only do what he said if he is able to address all the lapses in our educational system and these include classroom blocks, syllabuses, textbooks, TLMs, improve conditions of service, cancel the issue of paying someone 3 months salary when the person has actually worked for a year or more, make sure teachers receive the needed attention and respect from the government and the populace.
In any case teachers don't want to stand united with a common voice. I blame and pity them.
Teachers you contribute a lot to nation building therefore let your voices be heard

In the 1960' there were inspectors who gave teachers surprise checks. The Minister would sack those who are not ready. After that you can go and burn the sea. Enjoy a pleasant teaching week.
