Drainage and sewage treatment has not kept pace with the needs of our ever increasing population. Before we start forcing each home to build a toilet and bath we will need a way to drain, treat and dispose the waste and raw sewage. The army corp of engineers could draw plans for drain lines and with man power from the army equipped with affordable Chinese made tunneling machines we could dig at least 10miles of drainage lines a day. Then use concrete pipes which can last for 100yrs.These drainlines will not only be used to drain waste and prevent flooding but also give us a place to bury some of our electricity wires like they have done in the industrialized countries.Buried power lines are easier to maintain, safer for all, reduces unnecessary dumsor during rains and they last much longer. This project answers many of our problems so it is behooves me that no government has had enough political courage to take it on.Mind you Rwanda with her very limited resources and expertise has completed a similar tunneling system to bury fiber optic lines.WE NEED ACTION NOT RECITATIONS OF OUR PROBLEMS.

A lot of real education needs to be done in order to overturn the mindset of our brothers in the fishing industry especially, those who live in the coastal areas. A friend once told me, fisherfolks accuse persons who live in modern houses as filty beings. They claim, these persons defacate in their bedrooms ( toilets ) and it is not hygienic .They believe, when defecation takes place in the open and on the beach, the vastness of the range and the accompaning breeze, gives an opportunity for persons, to express themselves better and no harm is done in the process. This is the mindset. It may take some doing to undo this thinking.

I hope you're not one of those people who go to pass crap at the beach daily and still claim to be civilized because they were born in Accra. This is the answer l posted to a guy who suggested that Our new government is made up of people from the villages, So how is Accra still embedded in this shameful practices for all these years when we always hear mayors, political leaders and citizens who grew up in Accra claim to be more civilized than the people from other parts of Ghana.? This practice is shameful, crude and disgusting and needs to be faced out with immediate effect. I call on the appointments Committee to consider this woman's appointment because she has a foresight.

Open defecation is awful and disgusting. No matter what, no human being should squat along any beach and relieve himself, something that animals do. It remains to be seen if the proliferation of public toilets will break people from this crude behavior. In addition to providing these public toilets, the ministry of information in conjunction with the health ministry should educate the public on the health risks of open defecation.
