Prior to the 1992 AFCON in Senegal, Abedi and others were invited to augment the national team that had played all the qualifying series with local players. Abedi won't join the team unless he replaced Akwasi Appiah as Captain. This was unfair and a slap in the face of Akwasi Appiah and the rest of the local heroes who had sacrificed everything to enable the BS qualify for the finals. The GFA yielded to Abedi's self-centered demands and that one misstep affected the fortunes of the team that time has proven to be the best we've ever put together. Abedi's thoughtlessness and selfishness split the team into two factions and disunity weakened the team . Tony Yeboah was among the faction that opposed Abedi's self-centered demands but he had the right to oppose this foolishness. We missed the Championship gold and trophy that year because of Abedi's self-centered demand and egoisticism. Don't even revive this debate if you truly love this nation. It's fools like you who always take sides without regard to its devastating effect to our national unity and goals.

The article is erroneous! It was Congo Brazzaville not DR Congo. The goalkeeper beaten on that day was the captain of the Congo Brazzaville Team, Samba Brice!!!!
