He had previously been CEO of VRA. He had also worked as a consultant in Liberia on power projects.

Jabesh must take immense pride in overseeing the construction of the Bui dam from scratch and managing the dam so ably to date. How many Ghanaians have achieved as much?

He will not lack for a job with such extensive expertise and experience.

It is a really sad indictment of Ghanaian politics that whenever there is a change of administration, heads have to roll.

It is one thing dismissing heads of institutions for incompetence, corruption etc. What is happening now is a repeat of Apollo 568 under Dr Busia's Progress Party, and Kufuor's dismissal of CEOs to replace them with party cronies.

This is purely jobs for the boys and girls.

Worse still, competent heads with a proven track record are often replaced by incompetents whose appointments are purely for political reasons. Who in his right mind would expect Sir John to do a better job than Dr Sipa Yankey at GNGC?

We need legislation to ensure that key appointments to public institutions are insulated from caprice and political chicanery. We need the most competent people running our public institutions - such appointees must have the assurance that their tenure of office will not depend on the party in power.
