What happened to our beloved GCE O and A levels? Coup de etat's brought this to oblivion. Let's not be ashamed going back. We can bring our university entry level in line with the US and UK by (1) cutting one year out off the current jhs and letting pupils sit for the BECE exams at SHS.5 and (2) making SHS four years. At the moment our SHS graduates are academically unable to enter first undergraduate university in the USA because they are unable to pass the SATs for US universities entry. In Britain too, they are unable to gain admission to first year undergraduate degree courses because their WASSCE is not comparable to GCSE and A levels. Something must be done for the quality of education in Ghana to be at par with Britain and the US.

This alone justifies the return to 4 years otherwise A levels should be reinstated

We have all studied before except those with political bigotry, and we are aware that when a student is highly intertested to learn he can learn and kmow whatever he is given to study in the shortest time than one can imagine. This is a simple proof. Perhaps people who have not studied seriously in school are the people who will be suggesting 4 years as a solution.
When the foundation of a child is prepared very well in the early stages there is nothing that that child can not do in the shortest period of time. We saw this during out time when the EXPERIMENTAL SCHOOLS were introduced in Accra. Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata and others attended the above school at Kotobabi and there was a big difference from those at normal public schools where there is no motivation is seen in the pupils and in the teachers.
It is a reality that there is something wrong with our education system which needs motivation and not longer years at school. With your foolish tribal sentiments you forget that encouraging pupils to speak more TWI in schools also slow the ability of the students to learn better.
Why are you not mentioning that big problem of TWI as an issue of great concerned? In the past speaking of english made preparatory schools to be more attrative and intelligent and convincingly preparatory schools made a headway in our education in those days.

Ghana has a rather diverse crop of educational institutions spead all over the country.
It is no mean feat to decide on a one-fit-for -all system. No matter what time is given to learners to complete basic education, some will still do better than others.
My suggestion is is develop a dual system whereby schools are given the freedom to two curricula and teach it over two or three years depending on how resourced they are.
A survey of some rural schools will reveal the sorry state of affairs/ no teaching aids, poorly or unpaid teachers, teacher absenteeism etc.
These are serious factors that need addressing yet in spite of these, the stark reality is that some a year will not make a REAL difference if that is what some need to complete their education.
Give educationists some control and monitor them.

I think this man is an ndc and Mahama John puppet look the products of students coming out from colleges and universities cannot be said of good quality also why rushing to produce mediocrity and mass youth unemployment in the nut shell, the longer one stays in the better the quality if you don't know let me tell you.
