I left the UK; back to Ghana to do my National Service.
Shirley Botchwey must do hers too I guess.
I believe certain key positions must be given to seasoned individuals not just with experience but the knowledge of that Ministry.
I have listened to Shirley Botchway on you tube and she I can tell she is articulate and would perform well in a Ministry for Women, Gender issues...., or even Communications.
I think these men try to embellish things a bit and retract. Remember Victoria Hammah?
Let's get things done properly a bit. Miss Botchway is good but Foreign Ministry ....?

Hei! Why do you spew insults most of the time? Is it in your DNA? The woman claims when she graduated, there was no national service. And people are asking when she graduated since the NSS was introduced in 1973! So if she graduated before that year, then fair enough the service issue can be left out. But that will have to support her current age too since if she claims to have graduated say in 1972 and she is less than 60yrs now then that also won't wash!

For those who do not know the history of the NSS. It was started in 1973 by Colonel Acheampong, one year after he seized power from Busia. The allowance was 115 Cedis. This was increased to 135 in the 74/75 academic year.

Onibaba, am surprised about your comment. Is either you don't understand the english language or you lack the understanding of the content of the answer she gave when a question about why she did not do national service was posted to get. She finished school one year after the law for compulsory service was passed meaning she is not binding or cannot be forced to do the service in the sense that before the law, national service was optional to every graduate. You can choose to do it or not. Hmmmm.. these days one wonder the kind of education given to the likes of Onibaba and others.

National service was introduced during Acheampong's era and was one year. But when the universities were closed down for a year in 1982, the service was extended to 2yrs for university graduates. Now the closure also affected admissions so 6th formers had to stay one year before entering university so the govt then introduced one year post-sixth form service and that reduced the post tertiary service to one year. Those of us already in the universities then had to do two years national service. When sixth form was phased out, then the post tertiary service remained one year.

I think the national service was around in the early 70's.
It certainly was around in my time, and I graduated in 1977, and required to complete it. I have the certificate to show that I completed it, and eligible to take a job in any government service without any restriction. Back in the day, the certificate was white with dark red inscription.
I don't know how people can impudently claim that they did not do the service, and yet have taken employment in government institutions.
First, Oti Bless, and now this woman. When did this woman complete her tertiary education?
People should be made to face sanctions, if they refuse to do the service.

Your are giving your foreign counterparts to bring Ghanaians back home. We are facing the same thing here in germany when former president Mahama came and made this same statement here and ghanaian asylum seekers in Germany are in big trouble facing deportation. And we were hoping that the new government has come and will come into our rescue and you have come to put in salt to worsing the situation. We did not voted for you to give a good job for yourself and your family but for the wellbeing of the people of ghana in the foreign countries, but if you forget yourself i can predict your future. If you don't know anything look at the we did to Hanna Tetteh she thought that the position she was holding was her personal business but the Ghanaian voters gave her a clear message and this should serve as a warning to everyone in this new government.
