Ghana needs a protocol on how our Presidents relate to chiefs. I understand the meeting was behind closed doors. That should not happen especially as State matters were discussed. Private secretaries of both Akuffo Addo and Mahama should have been there to record what went on. In future the Council of State should be used for such meetings to "bring people" together. The asante chief has overreached big time but more importantly if he ever calls a meeting of any elected Ghana president the answer should be a big no. We have hundreds of overlords in Ghana all of who are seen by their people as important and none should be seen as beneath the chief of any other people. Going forward we need rules to be laid down so this doesn't happen again. Ghana's security is too important for chiefs to be allowed in.

Just as the Presidents of Ghana are not above the Constitution of Ghana, the Chief or King of the Asantes, cannot be above the Constitution of Ghana as to vary what the Constitution and or the Transition Team craft by way of smooth transition for the peace of Ghana. Mr. Ackumey as a Lawyer, should know this. Ackumey should spare us the diabolical act of attempting to set the current President in collusion course with the Asantehene.
I believe Nana is wiser than Ackumey and would not be hoodwinked by him in regarding what the generality of Ghanaians consider an unwise request by the ex-President as to disrecommend,if that were so, any gentleman's agreement reached between the two Presidents before he the Asantehene
My plea to the Asantehene is to refuse in future to be dragged into constitutional issues as this as such tend to put him in bad light in the eyes of constitutionally minded persons

Chris Akumey by his comments, is making the brouhaha of the designated Vice Presidential bungalow saga, look bad for both the Asantehene and President Mahama. It was unworthy of President Mahama to have made such a request, through a source which has nothing to do with a purely governmental issue. Curiously, just before the verdict of the Supreme Court decision was to be made, regarding the 2012 Presidential election petition. Rumors became rife that there had been nocturnal visits to some of the judges, by prominent chiefs, who made passionate appeals and requested for judgement to be given for the favour of President Mahama. It happenend. The Supreme Court decided in favour of President Mahama, against the run of events that unfolded in the eyes of the public. The decision ended the prolonged court litigation of the petitioners. The rumor however, lingered on and was made manifest, by the famous Vicky Hammah's tape. Four years on, having been rejected by the people of Ghana from the presidency. President John Mahama again tried to use unconventional means to grab a bungalow he has long coveted. In his haste to grab a prized bungalow, President Mahama conveniently forgot that his predecessor presidents had been denied the same curtesies by the state, for at least, eight years and counting. This matter should not have come up for discussions at all in the first place. Chris Akumey and others like him, should learn that what is good for the geese is also good for the gander. Do unto your brother what you would want done to you. So says the Good Book.

Even the President -elect at that time can not commit Ghana into any contract be it a binding one or non-binding ones. Ghana is a democratic country and as such no individual can allocate to itself or to somebody a property held in trust of the people and government of Ghana. Former Prez is not smart to bring the Asantehene into this matter This Asantehene angle rather put the Asantehene in a bad light and subjecting him to opprobrium. Ghanaians did not not vote for Asantehene and do not regard Asantehene is overlord of Ghana so this matter should end quickly before the Ga people also start talking because a land in Ga Land is not vested in the Asantehene for somebody to go to and sought assistance. We are tired. The last time Asantehene was involved in national matters during Mills take over is what has brought this nation to- corruption and sleaze, drugs, and above all break-down of discipline in society.

1. Why did the letter which Akuffo Addo is alleged to have asked to be written and was actually written by Julius Debrah on 19 December 2016 not make reference to that meeting between Mahama and Akuffo Addo with the Asantehene? Rather the letter reference Julius Debrah/Osafo Marfo

2. Why was the Asantehene a party to that agreement?

3. Did the Asantehene really understand the request Mahama was making to the effect that that particular bungalow was set apart for the Vice Presidents of the country?

4. If the Asantehene was aware that was the case why did he not advise Mahama not to put Akuffo Addo in that tight corner but allowed the request to go on

5. We do not know the full discussions that went on in the meeting but I inclined to believe that since Akuffo Addo alone does not form a government he had to refer the matter to the appropriate office for action and therefore may have told them that it may depend on what that office will say.

Therefore I do not believe that Akuffo Addo did wrong or disrespected the Asantehene as is being suggested by this writer

Asantehene who fights for equal right for all citizens would not allow John Mahama to have the share of his cake when he, Mahama has not done the same to the previous NPP government. It could have made a sense if Mahama had provided a house to former NPP president who NDC took over from. As we debate this issue the Former NPP president does not have either a house or an office. The rule of first come, first serve should be followed in this urgent matter. NDC president should not be favored over the NPP president. The Asantehene Otumfuo is wise enough to be upset with Nana Akufo-Addo in this particular issue. To my learned Chris Akume, next time you should think twice before you open your mouth to say a word. The statute of frauds expressly prohibits and states that oral agreements relating to property are unenforceable. Hence the requirement of signed deeds, leases and such documents when one deals with title, renting, etc. I don't know about Ghana, but where I've practiced law for 36 years, that's a basic tenet of the law of property. So, any oral promise made to the Ashantihene is worth nothing, even if it was made. Second, and more importantly, why the hell is the chief of Ashanti getting involved in this matter? We are a diverse Republic, consisting of a number of large ethnic groups, not subjects of the Ashanti chiefdom. The era where chiefs had any influence over important national matters is long over, and if this fool of a lawyer had any legal sense, he would know that the Ashantihene's participation in this matter is a clear, unwarranted and even illegal injection of parochial, and sectarian tribal influence on a Republic, governed by an elected President. We are not ruled by the Ashantihene or his cabal of corrupt courtiers, but by a government. And a lawyer should know the difference.
Third, on a social level, one gets respect when one gives respect. Having introduced himself in a partisan political matter, the Otumfuor exposed himself to the vagaries of political dealings, and deserves what he gets by way of a turn-around on the promise. He had no business injecting himself in this in the first place. He should keep out of national politics. We are not in the 17th Century.
Fourth, and finally, the misguided eagerness of lame, half-witted unprofessional broadcast journalist to readily give a platform to any ill-educated lawyer to provide ill-considered opinions on national matters is what is killing this country. Why is this Chris Akume's opinion of any significance? Foolish journalists trot on their programs equally foolish, brainless commentators, dubbed as "legal aces", "prominent lawyers", etc. to spew nonsense to an uncritical audience who know no better and they get free publicity when these stupid lawyers don't know their arse from their mouths. It is no wonder this country has sunk so low in its stature and its economic development has been stymied and arrested. There are too few competent people; we essentially one-eyed men and women, leading a population that is blind. I beg to state here that the Asantehene could have acted well to avoid this embarrassment by making Mahama aware that Akuffo Addo did not have the legal right at the time to agree on such request as he was only the President elect and his actions did not carry much weight at the time. In any case, since Mahama made everyone aware he was the only one who had the right to appoint and gracefully adhered to that why didn't he allocate the said house to himself but wanted to involve Akufo Addo? Which of the appointments in the days leading to his departure did he involve Akuffo Addo? His involvement in all this threatens our country. Now all we need is the Gas (whose land the property was on) or other chiefs who see themselves as big enough for Presidents to come to them for so called advise to express their disapproval and our social cohesion will be in trouble. It is the foolishness of Mahama to have landed himself in the hands of the two people. namely the Ashantehene and Akuffo Addo. Akuffo Addo never disrespected the Ashantehene. They trapped Mahama and disgraced him in a smart way of which the Ashantehene is aware of.

Mahama is a northerner and should have known that the TWI people especially the Ashantes and the Akyem who are so tribal and do not like the northerners nor respect them.
Let us be frank they both trapped the ex-president and sold him publicly as a greedy man so that in togetherness they would tarnish his image.

This is the reality of the matter, though this is hard for the small and low intelligence of Ghanaians to swallow it as a betrayal strategy to put Mahama, the northerner in his place. Why do the northerners look up to the TWI people, especially the Ashantes as their Godfather? The Northerners should answer this one?

Plagiarism is a terrible thing but when you get caught, you stand up, you own it, and apologize for it. Akufo-Addo has refused to offer any such personal apology up to date.
Instead, he has chosen to shift the blame to Eugene Arhin. Funny thing is Eugene was only 15yrs old when Akufo-Addo first competed against Kuffour for the NPP presidential primaries in 2000. Seven years later he would embark on his three attempts as the NPP presidential candidate. Does anybody believe that all these years Akufo-Addo never figured out what his inaugural speech would say if he ever won the presidency? Point is Akufo-Addo wrote this plagiarism speech himself, and he rehearsed it to precisely say the lines exactly as Clinton and Bush had said them.

2) Denying the Mahama Bungalow Saga:
As the evidence keeps streaming in, it is now clear from both sides that President-Elect Akufo-Addo did indeed meet President Mahama in the presence of Otumfour Osei Tutu. It is stated that it was then that Akufo-Addo verbally agreed to let Mahama continue to stay in his bungalow as part of his pension package. In fact, Akufo-Addo directed Mahama's chief of staff to document this in a letter to his transition team. Akufo-Addo's people who didn't support the idea intentionally leaked such letter to the Ghanaian media, knowing that most NPP Ghanaians have a hatred for Mahama, and will thus push to thwart the effort. Lo and behold, the rest of that is history. Once again, with all the statements and accusations flying up and down, Akufo-Addo has refused to state the obvious, making Mahama look like a greedy fool. A person of moral character would say, yes we did have an agreement but it looks like the laws would not permit it.

Here you have it, people! Here is the moral compass of our President. God help us!
