It is a pity these misguided boys had given another opportunity to these mentally jaundiced and warped Akan NPP scumbags and hoodlums of no consequence to unleash their vile and odious insults on "Ewes."

Their post is making the WhatsApp rounds with their tel #s and my brief initial reaction was I'd call them to educate them. I further wrote that the VR is not inhabited by Ewes alone and so this shouldn't be turned into an Ewe ethnic one alone, as even one of the brains behind the split agitation is the paramount chief of Gbidzigbe, Togbega Gabusu of Hohoe, who was misled to believe that Hohoe would be made the capital town of the new region. He was recently quoted as making a statement on the boundary which will absorb the Peki areas (Gbinyigbe) into the new region. But the latter wasn't part of the TVT but rather the Gold Coast. It'd make sense though: they are of one origin.

I have had time to reflect on their long lasting agitation, with roots in the TOLIMO and TVT politics which derailed the Ewe Unification Movt and turned it into the secessionist movt that it became. It must be noted that the Ewe Unification Movt wanted Togo to be joined to Ghana, and that was the wish of the leaders in Togo too, who were mostly descendants of Ga, Anyi and Akyem fugitives/refugees, not to mention our Dogbo kinsmen they intermarried with who wanted to be joined to their kinsmen in the Gold Coast. Their League of Nation and UN correspondences are there for perusal.

I think I need to write a proper article on the issue. I am inclined to support the split.

Togbe Gabusu no get sense and is petty minded. If they want to go, let them go! The VR is a big anomaly, with so many linguistic groups, members of whom enjoy the few amenities we have too educationally and are prominent in the public sector but don't bring any pork home to their people, just like their Ewe counterparts but we Ewes take all the abuse for them too. Let them go!

1. No ewe has ever owned cocoa farm before 1979.
2. Prior to 1979, ewes served as farm hands for the akan farmers. Ewes were either carpenters were known for washing and ironing clothes for the rest of Ghanaians.
3. By 1979, V/R was the poorest region in the country until Rawlings came on the scene and killed 3 former akan heads of state.
4. Except Gbedema, there's no historical record of any ewe helping Ghana to attain independence. All of the narrative you spent time on are completely wrong and are created fiction- no proof.
Very soon, I'll provide the complete history of how ewes were imported to Ghana by the great Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah.

Andy, I hope we can meet this animal calling himself Dr Alhaji Awuni Dauda to pump some sense in his coconut head,even I personally own a cocoa farm before 1979 as a result of what was shared among my siblings left by my late father but on day one I never paid any interest in the farm but left it with the rest of the family,my uncle used to own one of the largest cocoa farms in the Assin area of the Central region in the area not too far from where President Mahana visited a young large cocoa farmer some few years ago who also happens to be Ewe.

I can't believe this animal will say no Ewe owns a cocoa farm before 1979 when Ewes are known to have owned cocoa farms all over the country decades before some of us were born, and he calls himself a doctor,what a disgrace.

The agitation for Oti region is a demand the Akan people of Volta region have been demanding for because they have been marginalized in developmental projects only being done in the Ewe areas.

Landwise, Northern region is bigger than any region in Ghana but there is no agitation from others in the region calling for partitioning of the region so why didn't the so called Volta Youth use Northern region as an example instead of Ashanti region? The ethnocentric nature of Ewes is just too much.

There is not a section of Ashanti's like the Adansis calling for separation from Ashanti region.

When President Nkrumah divided Ashanti region into two making some Ahafos to be part of newly created Brong/Ahafo region, he did not seek any input from the people if they need a separate region and when Rawlings divided Upper region into Upper West and Upper East, he did not ask the them for permission.

If you do not know let me tell you that there has been agitation to create more regions in the north especially in the vast Gonja region over the years which everyone is aware of perhaps only you, in addition to that Akuffo Addo announced he will create Eastern Corridor region and if you don't know,Eastern Corridor he refers to is in the north,there is nothing wrong using Ashanti region as an example,they can even use the Eastern region as an example.

There is no need to divide Volta region, the population up there is very little for a region,the region does not need a split to develop,there is no need to divide any region including the Western region,you don't need a split to develop a region.

If you don't know something ask,there was agitation from both the present Brong Ahafo and Upper West regions and the people were largely consulted before both regions were created,the only difference was there was no constitutional instrument that required the people to vote on it but there were consultations before those regions were created,the people agitated for the creation of those regions, that is the fact,you can ask people who know that fact, you cannot create a new region without input from the people,even the demarcation has to be an input from the people, I'm surprise to read this,"he did not seek any input from the people"

Do you even know that Tepa in Ashanti region and some towns there are Ahafos who were left in Ashanti region whilst their cousins in Goaso, Mim, Acherensua, Bechem and other towns were carved out to be part of the created Brong/Shall region.

Even if what you are saying is true that some Bono Chiefs like Dormaahene demand for a region is a recipe to create a new region, then why is it wrong for the Akans and other tribes of Northern Volta region from the Chief of Kpando and others who are demanding a region of their own called Oti region not the right to have their own region. Even President Mahama made the same promise to divide Volta region. Have you heard any part of Ashanti region demanding a new region?

If you don't know, it is only Ashanti region in Ghana who indigenous people are only of one tribe, Asantes, all the other regions have different tribes as indigenes.

Kwame Nkrumah divided Ashanti region for political reasons, to weaken the political power of the vast region not because there was agitation for another region from the people.

This issue has been going on for sometime now especially during the Kufour regime but Kufour found it unwise to do that,hence his refusal to create the Oti region,creating that region will make the Volta region all Ewe region like Ashanti region being one tribe,we don't want that, we like what we are today.

If Kwame Nkrumah divided the Ashanti region for political reasons does it mean Akuffo Addo is also creating all these regions for political reasons?
The chief of Kpando never said in any platform they want to be part of Oti region, it is Hohoe chief who has been agitating to have his area included for him to have Hohoe as capital which those behind the creation of the new region don't want because they believe the development of the region ends at Hohoe, allowing Hohoe to be the capital will defeat the purpose of creating the new region, they will end up the same or worse.

They only represent themselves for their parochial interests. There is a Regional House of Chiefs, and of course, there will soon be a district chief executives and a Regional minister. The issue of new regions should be left to these representative bodies to discuss. If there's a need for a referendum, so be it. But for individuals to wake up and be writing trash in the name of the region is crass stupidity.

There is a formula for creating a region in Ghana the request for creating Oti Region started long before Nana came and the people in the area will be asked to decide .
If Volta Region survived after separation from French Togoland it will survive in Ghana.

Note the below:
1. Ashanti Region is a homogeneous region and Volta Region is a heterogeneous region.
2. Political pattern of voting is not a consideration for creating a region.
3. The chief mentioned in comparison to the Ashanti Overlord are chief in their local jurisdiction and not the whole region.
4. The geographical layout of Volta region makes administering the Northern part neglected.
5. Political patronage should be put aside so we can think development for the region .
6.The creation of Oti Region had been on the drawing board for many years and now is the time.
Finally the group can speak for themselves but should not purport to be speaking for all youth in Volta region.

If 80% of the 50% of the electorate in the area who vote in a referendum to create a region says NO, then no new region would be created..
Volta Region will not be NDC strong hold forever . Neither will Ashanti for NPP . Live goes on. Do you know Volta Region was once a strong UP territory? Wasn't a bunch of Ewes who overthrew lawful governments against corrupt central power.? Now someone wants the political Center to share power at the grass roots , and you see sinister motives?

THE TRUTH BEHIND NANA'S DETERMINATION TO CREATE MORE REGIONS
There have been suggestions, lately, to have the capital moved from Accra because of congestion. Should that happen the viable candidates are, likely, Takoradi, Tamale, Kumasi and perhaps Koforidua, Sunyani or Ho.
TAMALE
Now the pros of the choice of Tamale, the Northern Region is its large land mass. It also has fairly good infrastructure. However the cons include the absence of the sea, which will make the construction of sea port impossible.
TAKORADI
Takoradi appears as a more favorable candidate amongst the rest. In fact it already boasts of an operational international sea port. The infrastructure there is also advanced and to some extent suitable for the capital. The cons however include land mass etc.
KUMASI
The pros of choosing Ashanti Region include it's infrastructure and location.
The cons include the absence of the Sea that makes construction of a seaport impossible.
B/A and EASTERN Regions have features similar to that of the Ashanti Region. Meanwhile Volta Region also shares similar features with Greater and Western Regions in this context.
The NPP's intention is therfore to weaken their other possible contenders by dividing them. Once the mother region has been divided the offspring regions individually would be left with infrastructure not suitable to host the National Capital. It will be then be left with the Ashanti and Eastern Regions. Of course which ever of two eventually is chosen will not be a bother to them since they are the same people, Ashantis and Akyems.
This is the plan and nothing else. Because if you want to develop a place it's not necessarily by dividing it but making conscious efforts to send the developments there. Upper Region was divided into Upper West and Upper East. Ask how much development have gone to those places since the division. Please, people of the affected regions, 'I ask you to be citizens, citizens not spectators' to resist any attempt to divide your region. It is a ploy to rob you of any future possibility of hosting the National capital should there be the need.

2. Prior to 1979, ewes served as farm hands for the akan farmers. Ewes were either carpenters were known for washing and ironing clothes for the rest of Ghanaians.
3. By 1979, V/R was the poorest region in the country until Rawlings came on the scene and killed 3 former akan heads of state.
4. Except Gbedema, there's no historical record of any ewe helping Ghana to attain independence. All of the narrative you spent time on are completely wrong and are created fiction- no proof.

It can be split into three separate regions ie. Northern, Central and Southern. Realignment whether for political or tribal reasons should be considered if that is what will ensure peace.

Thanks to Nana for the idea of creating Oti region out of Volta. The people in this part of the region( northern volta) have been yearning for this for a very long time. Their reason is simple, they have been marginalised in term of development for far too long. The Ewe speaking towns end at Hohoe and Kpando. From Kpando you go to Nkonya(Guans), Kwamekrom(Bowiri), Abotoase(Akans), Amanya(Akan), Worawora(Akans), Apesokubi(Akans) all the way to Dambai and eventually Krachie. After Hohoe we have, Akpafu, Bowiri, Jasikan, Nsuta, Kadjebi all the way to Nkwanta and Kpassa. All the place aforementioned have not received any developmental projects for reasons unknown to the residents. All the developments are restricted to the southern part of the volta(Ewes). The only good road in that part of the region is from Kpando to Dambai constructed by JA Kuffour. As we speak now the Ndc couldn't complete that road after they took power in 2008. The forest zone and for that matter the cocoa areas in Volta region can be found in the northern volta hence it puzzle most of us that the area has been neglected and deprived of any development. THE YOUTH OF OTI are strongly behind the creation of a new region.

I was very much surprise when I read a press release on the above mentioned subject by a group claiming to be concern citizens of Volta. But their concerns gave me much cause to suspect that they are not Voltaians. And if they are, they do not know the historical and the socio- political nature of the Region.
I therefore want to take this opportunity to school such group to desist from meddling into this issue.
In the first place, the Volta Region is not entirely made up Ewes and again the respective chiefs mentioned in the press release are not the owners of the lands in the Region, not even the lands belonging to Ewes as they try to suggest.
Hence cannot be the individuals whose concern should be sought for before a Region is created from the Volta Region. In fact that suggestion is only an insult to the good people in the Northern part.The people in the Northern part of the Region are predominantly Guans, Akans and Bues. And are occupying their ancestral lands and not on Ewes Lands belonging to the Agbogbomefia and the Awomefia, the people in the Northern part are not settlers.
During the formation of the Region, the UN recognizing that they are sovereign and independent groups sought their view by way of asking their representative to tell the whole world of their view. And therefore would be unfortunate for someone to suggest that, creation of the new region must be at the beck and call of the Agbogbomefia and the Awomefia.
The proposal for the creation of the Oti Region has been a long standing issue and does not intend to robe in ANY EWE traditional area. It strictly for the Northern part of the Volta Region to facilitate developing and equal participation as well.
After all, we in North have been fairly marginalized and excluded for a long time. Even when a Northerner is a pointed a minister for the Volta Region, He or she is resisted in the discharge of their duties by some of this so called owners of Volta.
I was also surprise when this infantile youth group tried to robe in the Asantehene into this matter and I find that ridiculous.
The Asantehene is not one of the chiefs who is now thinking of how to construct a palace. The Otumfour has been living in well-fortified palace for the past three hundred years. The Otumfour is gone past this stage, the Otumfour now has enough credibility to do business with reputable organization such as the World Bank and not microfinance institutions. The Otumfour deals with High commission, Kings and Kingdoms of the world and not family heads who want to be called chiefs.
Finally, I want to beat the gongong for all well meaning Northern Voltaians to be awake and work with all the resilience it requires to be able to achieve this vision

If you Volta youth are not interested fine, but don't generalize it. Perhaps, you're not aware that Ashanti Region is far more developed than the Volta region. More so, if region is created there is some kind of seed money given. It also has to be developed to reach the standard of a region. I'm not sure you really want the welfare of your people. You rather have a myopic thought. Governance should come to the doorsteps of the people. The fact that you have two regions in Volta does not mean you're no longer one any more or your language should be changed. Stop being too tribalistic. This can't lead you to progress.
