There is something wrong when you take some one 's else speech and make it like your own creation, the world frowns on that. The speech writer just have to apologize and get on but dont start this thing for others to follow. One Good thing about this is that , the president himself is not even talking about it, is not relevant, those who wrote the speech just have to make repairs. . Vice President Joe Biden, 1987: During the 1988 Presidential election, the then-presidential candidate was accused of mimicking a speech that British Labour Party Neil Kinnock delivered just four months prior.
Kinnock's speech included the following lines:
Why am I the first Kinnock in a thousand generations to be able to get to university? [Pointing to his wife in the audience:] Why is Glenys the first woman in her family in a thousand generations to be able to get to university? Was it because all our predecessors were thick?
While Biden said:
I started thinking as I was coming over here, why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go to a university? [Pointing to his wife in the audience:] Why is it that my wife who is sitting out there in the audience is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? Is it because I'm the first Biden in a thousand generations to get a college and a graduate degree that I was smarter than the rest?
The vice president was forced to withdraw from the presidential race after Maureen Dowd of the New York Times exposed his plagiarized speech. Allegations followed that Biden lifted parts of other speeches from Hubert Humphrey, Robert Kennedy, and JFK.

Ex President Kuffour wants us to take a plagiarized statement serious, in the first place it was first read 71 years ago, did those words change America where literacy rate then was higher than ours today ?, many years latter repeated by Bush, did it change America where our literacy rate had dwindled whilst their increased in science and technology and all other spheres ? And will it change Ghanaians where our level of illiteracy is so high ?
i beg to differ and if this is what NPP wants to defend instead of simply accepting their shame and focusing on their promises to the citizens they are blatantly showing off their arrogance they are well noted for, stamping that stupid ignorance they are noted for. We are interested in the distribution of a $1,000,000 per constitiuency, we are interested in the one district one factory, one dam per village within their first 100 days in power without failure.

Utterances of this 'lifetime' MP?
Here is a guy, who just about a month ago, served noticed that he was tired, and needed a break from a position he has always coveted, that of being the Majority Leader during his parliamentary life! Imagine how a so-called literate politician, is defending what is patently indefensible and wrong. This confirms that a simple name change, as not done anything to alter the "Lawrence Addai" we have known this guy to be since his high school days! Those in doubt, can learn more about his from his colleagues who were with him at Kumasi High School.

Our president in real sense saw the mistake and that is why the communicator Arhin apologised and thus if there is a need for the president to apologise to prove that we in Ghana are aware of the morality that pertain to intelligence in the usage of borrowed statements, he must do it. That is beautiful and nice
With this simple call of the display of our nation's international awareness of the use of borrowed statements with simple apology, where is the ASSHOLE and the arrogance in this common sense? Come in and prove intelligence if you are a real Ga. What is wrong with apology? A good thing remains a good thing even if it comes from your political or family enemy.

Ashantes take foolish pride to answer questions and that is what Kyei Mensah Bonsu is displaying here to disgrace the Ashantes of their primitivity in all things. On the international level the president has caused a political blunder which is not good for our president and the nation Ghana as a whole, hence the need to apolgise. Period.
This, in the minds of the primitive Ashantes like Kyei Bonsu is not wrong because he sees it like we are in the village, the same way they have taken Ghana to be, where disgracefully the Ashanteman council could wake up and introduced somebody at the KMA to be their representative even though that is not lawful.
Again no wonder the NDC communicator Solomon Nkansah stated that there is nothing good that could come out from Ashante region. Is it not the proof that Kyei is displaying shamefully with comments he made and l quote- ''what is wring if Akuffo Addo plagiarized his speech'' By law and morality there is a need to make reference to the holder/owner of that intelligent statement that interested the NPP communicating team to have borrowed it.
Why should not they wrote their own english? That should have been better, as there would be no ''wahala.'' The primitive Ashante minds have dominated the NPP with undescribeable disgrace and still willing to defend the stupidity that they had caused our nation.
No wonder Kyei and the NPP also never saw anything wrong with the poor english spoken by the Batama MP of the NPP. Why do you Ashantes like to prove that you know everything whereas
you only know disgrace that you are even not aware of.
You are all bunch of educated buffons who never wanted to learn yet force their way into spear heading issues in Ghana political arena. Greedy and selfish Ashante minds that never accept their wrongs. I call it primitive people who do not know what they are!!!!

Yes, the hue and cry about plagiarism is absolute thrash. I wrote elsewhere that the writer did not publish a book for sale to profit from. I guess the Majority Leader, Kyei Mensah, does not know what plagiarism means. Or, he is so criminally minded he cannot discern what is criminal from what is decent and honest? I would like to have his background seriously looked into. He might have done horrible klepto stuff in his past with the same level of dismissal.
This is the reason why Ghana has been stuck in almost incorrigible Corruption for decades. If a whole Majority Leader in Parliament, someone thought to be academically successful enough to attain his position does not recognize the theft in plagiarism, he does not deserve to be in the august house.
It is with the same dismissal of honesty that Kyei Mensah and his clique of crooked Politicians have held Ghanaians at ransom for decades.
At this juncture, I could more easily forgive Akufo-Addo or his Speech-writer for the plagiarism than forgiving Kyei Mensah for such an idiotic remark.
We must make it abundantly clear to this guy and his cohorts that the license to govern that People gave Akufo-Addo does not cover theft in any form, materially or otherwise.
He should be ashamed of himself.

Just finished reading my copy of today's Washington Post daily, and right on it's World News page is piece about Nana Addo's inaugural speech captioned " Uplifting speech lifts from 2 US presidents - Address by Ghana's new leader copies words of Clinton,Bush inaugurals. " ln terms of how the western media perennially covers events from the African continent in negative perspective, my question to the Post is what is new here? Instead of writing and educating it's readers about Nana "UPLIFTING" and great speech in its broader context, the Post did a lazy job by touching only on the so called plagiarism in Nana Addo's speech which his Communication Director has since taken full responsibility and apologized for. Mind you l am not here defending the apparent copied part of the address. My point is that the Washington Post and for that matter, western media should endeavor to write comprehensive objective articles and coverage about issues from Africa in their proper context. And on the domestic front, may l also ask what business does MR Arhin an accomplished engineer has in dabbling in communications and presidential speech writing? We the NPP claim that we have the men and women with experience expertise and qualifications to do the job. Perhaps it will be proper to ease Mr Arhin into a position at the Jubilee House for which he is professionally trained for as an engineer. And the Communication office should be manned by real communications expertise and professionals.

Nana must not be a "fool" if Bush was, neither must he plagiarize because Manama did. It was unfortunate that those who composed the speech failed to properly acknowledge their sources.
