Seriously, most of these NPP guys don't know what they are talking about. Ghanaians must realize that, real GDP cannot grow at 4% or more and the economy cannot expand or create the job opportunities needed if you don't build the infrastructure to trigger growth. It's becoming very alarming the way these NPP folks are trying to hoodwink Ghanaians by down playing the importance of building the necessary infrastructure to stimulate growth and development in Ghana. Infrastructural development has a rippling effect on the economy and without it, the private sector cannot grow. Dumsor is a classical effect or example of poor infrastructural planning because successive governments failed to develop the energy sector to support growing needs of households and businesses. This is a cheap talk by Osafo Marfo and he must realize that the cedi will continue to slide downwards if Ghana does not increase export revenues by promoting the manufacturing of goods and services locally as against imports. There's no magic formula about this.

I have never seen people get voted into power in the advanced worlds because they constructed a road -- that is a given. We pay taxes for those to be done -- same as giving us the police. I thought the NPP would say equal attention would be given to both infrastructural development and the economy because they two go hand in hand. For some people a fixed road, bridge, water system, electricity, schools, hospitals are what they want to see in their communities. An improved economy may just benefit a few well placed people and the effects would not trickle down. It would be a battle of figures from so called IMF and World Banks and other Financial Institutions. Let us see how this paradigm shift would span out. Economic situations can suddenly turn with a major global shock as happened in 2008, and negate everything. We live to see.

When did you hear any political party in western world boast of infrastructure dev't? Thank you very much! That guy may have lost half of his knowledge in Economics for Nation Building. I wonder why he even wants to be part of any Government at this point in his life.
On the other hand, it could well be that he wants to water down people's expectation from the many promises his boss, Akufo-Addo, made. I could also see how what he said might be a signal for the revival of Kufuor's so-called "Property Owning" Democracy, in which all that mattered was anyone with the right connections for access to wealth could just amass it, under various guises of legality.
In that case, so long as the People find adequate and reasonably priced grocery on the Market, and the Media could report some healthy macroeconomic figures, no one would suspect any irresponsible and fraudulent diversion of State assets.

Follow Ghanaians the NPP has swindle ( 419) us. Just a week after elections Osafo Marfo says they are not interested in infrustracture but "managing the economy". What economy without infrustracture? The 123 community secondary schools buit by the NDC GOVERNMENT will give opportunities for more development of the human capital essential for economic progress. ALSO these schools provide job opportunities for teachers and other staff which will reduce youth an employment. Tell which is easier NPP coming to employ people into to the schools or NDC providing thecinsfrustracture at the schools? NPP have 419 Ghanaians because Osofo Marfos comments mean that there will be NO "one district one fractory" since building factories or dams amount to infrustractoral development.
Check the developed countries with good economies and tell which of them had economic growth without infrustractural development?. Well Osofo Marfo or Omarfo Safo is either not an economist or is already throwing in the towel since they cannot much NDCs infrustractural pedistal

you seem to have sold dog chains all your life or cleaning toilets. You have no clue what economics is all about.
Building infrastructure is what kick starts an ailing economy. In Economics we have something we call ''Linkages'' that drives the economy. Let me give you a simple example.
Government builds a road and employs one person, that person now has money in his pocket to send his son to school, the school has one more child enrolled, the owner of that school can now afford to buy the laptop that the school needs, the laptop seller sells one more laptop and can now take his wife to a restaurant, the restaurant owner has one more customer and will have to buy more vegetables for his restaurant, the vegetable seller sells more vegetable, the farmer who produced the vegetables has to sell more of his produce , etc. The building of one road and employing just one person sets in motion a chain of events in the economy and the economy grows.
Without infrastructure the country will be doomed just like the Rawlings -Chain era.
These people have borrowed so much money for their election campaign that they are going to steal our tax money to pay it back.

My brother what you are saying is absolutely correct. Without infrastructure ,the economy will just stagnate.
You haven't even mentioned the linkages that the suppliers of raw materials for the project are going to bring . That will create even more jobs.
These people are just another bunch of cerificateless crooks or are what Ashantis say ''Coacoaasi Krachie''. They haven't got a clue what they are saying.

When there is no infrastructural base to support actual production and distribution, you can "manage" all you want but there would be no aggregate economic performance. You need a balanced approach in managing the economy.

It beggars belief how people contribute to issues without reading and appreciating fully what's being discussed. Very disappointing! Osafo has said that Infrastracture will be developed as a matter of course but will not be the focus. Economic management to make people feel comfortable and be able to afford the basics of life is where most attention will be. One buffoon was giving a lecture on linkages. Is it not pertinent to design your economic trigger based on your strength??
And don't forget that the great Osagyefo mused after his overthrow that he never knew Ghanaians preferred milk to Infrastracture - It tells you the kind of morons you are governing. I guess Osafo and his NPP understand the needs of Ghanaians otherwise for all the reference to Mahama's massive Infrastracture Developments did you same fuckin lot not vote him out?
Real leadership skills are the preserve of a tiny minority in society and Osafo and his compatriots belong with them.
All you eneducated and unexposed idiots should shut up, watch and learn.

If any focus on Economic Management does not seriously include Infrastructure, then what progress would the Nation have?
People do not want to be still living in a Nation where their Infrastructure is left to rot even if they have good jobs to provide luxury personal items.
Soon, their lives would be cut short and the amassed personal wealth would all be left behind. They need their Hospitals and Schools and Wastewater Treatment Facilities, for example, brought up to par with the rest of the World. They need their Roads to be well rehabilitated to ensure safety and durability. They need good and easily accessible and affordable drinking water. They need massive boost in official assistance to re-position their Agricultural production at the very top where it used to be. They need to have better and modern Town and City Planning blueprints to push them along in this new Millennium.
So, do not think we would be settling for bread alone. Mahama wasn't booted out just for the sake of restoring macroeconomic balance. Part of the reason he was booted out was the rampant corruption as found with SADA, SUBA, GYEEDA, Woyomegate, etc.
Is this Osafo Marfo living in the Olden, Colonial era? Any wise Economic Management would have a commensurate Infrastructural developmental program with it.
This guy ought to retire to his village where his clout with the traditional Chiefs may still have some steam in it. He is way out of our modern league.
Yep! So, all we have to expect from his new Administration is some healthy macroeconomic environment where only the incorrigible book-cooking, corrupt kleptocrats continue to plunder our assets and hide their loots abroad, and our Markets flooded with sardines and corned beef? Right?
If Osafo Marfo did not pay attention when Akufo-Addo was stringing together his long list of Promises, he better listen carefully now, that People will be anxiously waiting for the One-District, One-Factory, One-Village, One-Dam Infrastructural projects, among others, and he better start planning how to deliver on them.
It would not be enough to only balance our Budget, for instance, to make the books look good on the global economic scene, while people have nothing in their towns and villages and Cities to show for progress.
So, we will be watching your so-called focus on the Economic Management with an eagle eye. You cannot bamboozle us again like you did with the thin veil of Economic stability that the HIPC offered us.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Hope respectable Osafo Marfo will read this. The value of the cedi to the dollar during the re denomination exercise in 2007 was 0.90GHC to 1 USD. The cedi was 1.20GHC to a dollar when NPP left office on January 7, 2009. So work it out, the cedi deprecated 25% within one year. Currently the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar is 4GHC=1USD. Check this, 4GHC-1.2GHC=2.8GHC, indicating that the cedi deprecated 70% in eight years. Divide 70% by 8 years, and you get 8.75% against 25% per annum under NPP. So folks you see the competence of NPP, I'm just a village boy, not as learned as Mr Osafo Marfo, trying to practice some elementary mathematics. God bless Ghana!

Folks must not settle for either the status quo or any meager improvement below what we all know we deserve.
We must not allow anymore conning by the Politicians, regardless of their Party affiliations. We should more forcefully demand that our Constitution is strictly adhered to by all the branches of the Government and every Official submits to unbiased accountability.
We need the FOIB immediately passed and the Immunity clause retired permanently from the Constitution to allow every Official, from the President to the MP, be subject to the same criminal Laws we have.
Therefore, the asset declaration requirement for Officials to assume Office and account for all assets acquired while in the Office must be firmly applied. The NDC Officials exiting the scene must therefore be stringently scrutinized for excesses that may have to be retrieved to the State.

If a government comes to power and makes 200 interchanges, 100 roads, that government shouldn't see it as achievement because it's a responsibility.
If you are a child at home and your work in the house is to clean the hall, after effectively executing that job, don't think you have achieved anything big because it's your responsibility as the child in that house. Any government can build roads, interchanges, hospitals etc After all is it the persons personal money he used in doing these? No...that is what the tax payers money is supposed to be used for. So when you come to power, fail in growing the economy, IMF takes over your economy and then stick to infrastructure because that's a way to loot money, do you expect an average Ghanaian to be happy with you? No way. Akufo Addo's government is also warned, if they fail to deliver, they will be kicked out. People need to understand governance well before they argue. Not forgetting the fact that most these infrastructure Mahama's government is bragging about were commissioned during Kufour and Mills' tenure respectively. So how hard is it managing something someone had already started... Is that what Mahama's government is taking credit for... Ghanaians should really learn. God bless Ghana

Ghanafuo,"Oyiwa"!NPP and it's predecessors are not known for nation-development. They're known for scheming to enriching themselves, their families and cronies while deceiving Ghanaians with their brand of "Trickle-down" Economics which hasn't worked even in the US.Remember they were so opposed to Nkrumah on the Volta Dam that they sent a delegation to Europe to dissuade countries from assisting. In the end, the country had to make do with a private financier, Kaiser, at extra cost? Then they came in 1969,shepherded by the CIA;selectively enjoyed Nkrumah's labor, gleefully watched some Nkrumah's projects rot while they bought landed properties abroad; and antagonized our neighbors by enacting the evil Aliens Compliance Act which literally forced these non-violent immigrants to flee leaving their businesses to be taken over by the Party's supporters . The very recent one was under Kuffour when instead of developing the infrastructure with the money freed by the $4b forgiven external debt and the payment moratorium placed on most of the remaining debt,he demonetized the local currency and masked inflation by supporting the local currency with some of the freed money and bloating the value of the local currency on the international market. While this misguided policy helped friends who were importers,it didn't help the economy in any way. Local industries collapsed as they couldn't compete with subsidized imported goods. The government even made matters worse by importing goods that could be produced locally. To add insult to injury, the rest of the money found themselves in bloated contracts, entitlement programs and, of course, individual pockets. In fact Kuffour's administration, of which the president-elect, the vice-president elect and this Osafo Marfo were intimate part, was deemed so corrupt even by Fonseca the notorious investment law firm highlighted in the recent "Panama Papers" that it didn't want to deal with him after he had invested "only" $75,000!
Ghanafuo, the "Matemeho" concept of, "Give them akpeteshi while we drink champagne because it is our birthright" is alive and well in any Danquah-Busia-Dombo mentored Party. The aim has always been the same: To create a social, economic and political elite the families and friends of which will have the best of everything at the expense of the majority. School yourselves about the Party and its adherents and the necessity to keep them in check.
Ghanafuo,we don't want to work hard but we want to live rich without holding public officials accountable. If we don't change our attitude, delay our penchant for instant gratification because national development takes time, and hold politicians and other public officials accountable, we shall have politicians who will give us "sardines and milk" while they loot the national coffers and neglect or slow down development. In time there may not be any money to cover the importation of even these items of instant gratification and what would we have done?
Meanwhile unless Akuffo-Addo changes his mind, watch the massive corruption that engulfed Kuffour's administration repeat itself a dozen more times and no infrastructure development. This is because the party's financiers who were the beneficiaries of crookish contracts are still there. And even people like this crookish and tribalistic Osafo- Marfo are still around--even directing and coordinating affairs in the transition!
Lord help us.

Adequate infrastructure makes an economy more attractive for conducting business. Quality of Human capital should also be in the same basket when we consider what is required to make an economy good for business.
When there is no infrastructural base to support actual production and distribution, you can "manage" all you want but there would be no aggregate economic performance. You need a balanced approach in managing the economy.

Thought Mr Gbormita was going to dispute my computation, was just trying to emphasise the fact that the cedi depreciated 8.75% per annum under NDC as against 25% under NPP. Please let us discuss, no insults!
Why don't you calculate from 2000 to 2008 for npp? It only doubled the whole 8 years from 0.6 cedis 2001 to 0.9 in early 2008. It only jumped to 1.2 after elections.... Get your facts right and stop this propaganda
Point of correction, kakashi...The cedi depreciated 25% between 2007 and January 2009, when NPP left office, but the average increment under NDC for eight years..2009 to date (December 2016) is approximately 29%
