We voted out NDC because of harassment – Circle traders

Traders at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle said they punished the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by voting against it as a result of the ill-treatment they received from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

Prior to the December 7 elections and inauguration of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange, the AMA sacked hawkers and traders who displayed their wares on the sidewalks and roads at the city center.

But just few days after the election and change of government, the traders have returned to the facility claiming their party is in power.

The situation at the Nkrumah Circle has returned to its usual state of lawlessness as activities of these traders are making movement on the sidewalks difficult and causing heavy vehicular traffic on the roads.

According to the traders, city authorities have stopped harassing them due to the change of government hence they have taken advantage of the absence of the AMA taskforces to go about their normal businesses.

They said they voted for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because they were threatened by the former government and were forced out from selling at the Nkrumah Circle.

“Nana Addo is in and they are not going to sack us again. They said they are going to sack us from here so we voted for Nana so they can’t sack us.
