Apart from UMaT where I got my tertiary education, almost all the lecturers in other institutions sell their lecture notes. It's even worse in the private universities. It's shameful and it must be stopped.

Young man, please check your facts. In fact all public universities including Your UMaT do not sell hand outs. If any lecturer in such universities still do, well, then that is an illegality.

Please kindly cross check before this becomes a ground for impeachment. e are watching!! Also note the shame projects awards that is happening we also noting it and soon will alert the proper quarters to handle this sensitive issues. Hope your deals with the Finance Officer is not settled yet?

We have heard institutions tell us the same story but the practice is extant. The case is worse when lecturers are said by students to be collecting index numbers of students who buy their handouts which are nothing but plagiarized works of some authors in most cases. Some are said to be riddled with seismic grammatical errors highly unbecoming of a university don. Some authorities are unable to ensure that this practice of selling handout to students is stopped because they themselves were doing same when they were ordinary lecturers but the practice must end. I am quite disappointed in the reason given by Professor Dzisi as because of financial burden. She look at the ethical issue of lecturers plagiarizing some other authors work and selling them to students. She should look at the issue of copyrights violation by some of these handouts. She should also, above all, consider the negative impact in respect of intellectual development of confining students to only reading handouts instead of textbooks; you end up producing graduates who cannot think beyond the handouts. The University of Ghana is said to have successfully banned the practice and their rise in ranking of universities in Africa could possibly be linked to it.

If they use the cost of printing as an excuse then they should just give the students the lecture slides to read or print if they want to.

Also, what about the students? were they qualified in the first place to do the rigors? What help did the school offer them to make up for their grades?

1.5 GPA is too low. Passing grades should be 3.00 GPA and we need to provide them with the resources to succeed. I think Prof. Yankah etc were right when they criticized the implementation of converting the Poly's into Universities.
