Oh my goodness that is a tragic loss. A great man, a moral pillar is gone. Back in the day, me and my classmates....1972, at Technology Secondary School (TechSec) Kumasi, were the very first students that Coach Afranie ever took charge of when he graduated from Winneba Sports Training College. I was in Form 1A, he was freshly minted coach and oh boy what an inspiration that he was. He made us believe in ourselves that we can do whatever we want if we put our minds to it. Very soon we were doing gymnastics, acrobatics, athletics, field hockey, basket ball, tennis, cross country running etc. You name it, we went at it never ever doubting in ourselves that we can take on any opposition out there.
His inspiration spilled off into other areas like embarking on journeys to other schools to take them on in debates. I can say without a shadow of doubt that Coach Afranie played a crucial role in making me and countless number of our class of 1972 to become who we are today in all fields of endeavour. I am very grateful I was able to talk to Coach Afranie last year over the phone when he visited a relative in Calgary, Canada, and to express my gratitude to him in moulding me. Incrediblly, he never seemed to have forgotten any of us, perhaps because we were his very first. What a great disciplinarian and motivator that we have lost. Rest in perfect peace Coach Afranie. You touched and inspired a whole generation to climb the highest mountain and be strong and steadfast. I would toast you tonight. Oh my God, you inspired me to do all the flips and balancing on the bars and beams. And your face never changed over the years, same old chiseled jaws and biceps. A coach for all seasons and generations. You did Ghana proud. Damirifa due! Ghana's great. Me and my friends- Form One Class of 1972, wish you Godspeed. Love you.

95 % of Ghanaians driving on our roads have never had a proffesional driver tuition or even taken a driving test.
The route through driving is a few lessons from a friend or relative on how to drive in straight lines and turning the steering. Majority of them graduate from driver's mate to full blown drivers overnight, money exchanges hands and they become killers on our roads.
The DVLA needs to wake up and stop putting lives at risk.

The blame of most deaths are squarely on your doorstep! Time for government to wake up and start prosecuting wayward recalcitrants. Once they know there are consequences, they will reform. Mahama, this is your next policy directive I beg, please save lives.

With limited information provided in the article and from the pictures, it appears this is the case of single vehicular accident. Was speeding involved and if so, did the ambulance driver fail to maintain control of the vehicle? Most Ghanaian drivers are illiterates who can barely read road signs and have limited driving skills. It shouldn't surprise anyone if investigations show that the ambulance driver has no license.

Retirees die in their numbers at offices of the Accountant-General and SSNIT waiting to collect their benefits, No free bus tickets for the aged. Is this a country worth dying for? JDM is criss crossing the country in choppers for political campaigns and a renowned veteran coach like Afranie could not be airlhfted from Accra to Kumasi to seek medical care. May God curse all greedy politicians. His family must sack any politician who comes to shed crocodile tears

It's so sad! In as much as we sympathize with the family of the late coach Afranie, we must ask ourselves the lessons that such a tragedy leaves for posterity.
No wonder we live in a country in which law enforcement has become a poodle for the government of the day. They manipulate the country's police service as and when they feel like doing so. No motor checks and related police activities on our road to gradually deal with unqualified persons on our roads. Hence, what do we expect apart from the danming consequences were witnessing on our roads?
Vision less country with visionless leaders!

I saw this 'accident' . I was in the VIP bus behind the ambulance. It is the tyre that got burst and over turned severally into the Birim river just before Linda Dor rest stop. He was trapped under the ambulance. We couldn't lift the vehicle up. The driver was badly injured and we feared we may lose him so we focused on saving the driver. The patient was crying for help but we were powerless to save him/ her with our bare hands as the person was trapped under the ambulance. I did not know who....but seeing the fotos now I just realised..... It occurred around 7.35 am just when Hillary called Trump to concede defeat..... Was on the fine getting filla on the elections on TV. Rest in peace coach. We did our best

News on the death of coach Afranie was really shocking. That's is Ghana where heros don't have respect among even peers and colleagues. This is not time to lament on the poor treatments people are having at all places. Imagine a retired official who goes to his former place of work and the harrowing experience he experiences . Well enough is enough. Let me however seize the opportunity to commiserate with old time colleagues, Joe Afranie formerly of NIB and Prudenti Banks and his brother, Mpaeb)Transport. In all things remember God knows best.
Rest in peace.
