The second example is even more related to the effect of the suit filed by Abu Ramadan. It concerns the acrobatics of leading members of the Progress Party (PP) and the government in 1970. Article 71 of the 1969 second Republican Constitution made it illegal for those in the CPP regime who had had adverse findings made against them by the commissions of inquiry set up after the 1966 coup d’etat from holding public office. Mr Awoonor-Williams of the Progress Party, who had contested the leader of the opposition, the National Alliance of Liberals (NAL), Komla A. Gbedemah, took the latter to court to expel him from Parliament so he would have another chance at the electoral cherry in the subsequent by-election.

Believe it or not, the Progress Party government vehemently denied that it instigated this unnecessary act of political vindictiveness. NAL had won only 29 of the 140 parliamentary seats up for grabs in the August 1969 election, as against the PP which had won 104 seats, an overwhelming and stifling majority. In fact, the PP had won all the seats outright in three regions, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Central.

Akufo-Addo must not attempt to supplant our National Security Agencies with its selfish-driven, violent private Militia. He should not try to suppress voters' right to vote under the guise of preventing Togolese to vote in Ghana. How about the borders in the North and West of our Country? Can folks cross them to come vote, even if they do not qualify to do so? Or, Akufo-Addo anticipates many of those who may cross over from the last two border areas could well be his supporters?

Any illegal attempt to block folks crossing the border would result in conflagration that Akufo-Addo would have to answer fully for.

We did not see him and Bawumia establish the claim of thousands of Togolese voting for the NDC in the last Elections. So, they have forfeited their chance to prove any such fraud in our electoral process.

Our Border Guards and Immigration Officers must stringently flush out anyone who arrogates to himself or herself the power to stop others traveling back and forth across the border. Akufo-Addo has no authority to restrain anyone's movement, beyond he limits of his residence.

This proposed action by the NPP is similar to the action Donald Trump of the USA intends for his wacky supporters to take to suppress Blacks and Hispanics from voting, fearing they would vote for Hillary Clinton. It is a voter-suppression proposition and Ghanaians must boldly reject it and refrain from seeing that happen.
Such could also spark physical violence that could mar our Elections and Akufo-Addo should be held personally accountable for any such violence.
