I am surprised to learn that we have so many, (staggering figure of 190,000) blind persons in Ghana at the twenty first century. Under the colonial and early post independence era of the British and our late president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the statistic of the blindness in the country was better and the treatment was available by the eye specialists in hospitals and district clinics. But to-day, instead of eye patients seeking help from medical trained doctors and eye qualified specialists, the patients turn to prophets, spiritualists, pastors and bogus herbalists before it is too late to be cured. Awareness, education and good practice to the population of diet, content of sugar intake as well as water and rubbish areas in the cities as well as regional villages. The well waters should at least be available in all towns and villages in the country. A word to a wise is enough and this should good advice to all future government.
