ADU GYAMFI---- ----- When NPP were in government for 8 years, they had GHC20 billion from loans and taxes. They developed the country well with this GHC20 billion. They introduced the Free Maternal Healthcare, National Health Insurance Scheme, National Youth Employment Programme, School Feeding, Metro Mass Transit, Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty. They paid the teacher training allowances and the nurse training allowances, all from the GHC 20 billion. Within the eight years of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), they have had GHS248 billion but have collapsed the NHIS, the National Youth Employment programme, School Feeding Programme, Metro Mass Transit, nurse training and teacher training allowances. I believe he isn't making a good point. Those low percentages he cited in foreign countries is because of the quality and quantity of farming. I believe given a level playing field, an educated youth is likely to perform better than the "average" farmer . What OTABIL would call a corporate body ("BRAIN EXPLOITER"), is almost always a result of a start up of some non corporate body.Even a small plantain chips joint can be grown into a factory run by corporate people. It is frightening if a person who has so much influence like Otabil actually believes that farming is something that limits the use of the brains. very sad

We are not doing the farming right. We should concentrate in increasing our quantity and quality of farms and not just asking everyone to be a farmer...
People have diverse talents we need to uncover to help push this country towards the right directions

The politicians are sending their children to first class science and maths schools in the developed nations and asking our youth to be farmers. Farming is good business but the modern farming requires advance tools not what our fathers and mothers are using now. I pray for you and I wish you will ask God forgiveness.

Ghana needs a few large commercial farmers not many poor subsistence farmers.

WHAT USE HAS GOD FOR THOS WHOO CAN'T THINK BUT JUST SING AND DANCE,
MORE FOOLISHLY, THEY BELIEVE THAT JESUS WAS A EUROPEAN GUY CALLED CESARE BORGIS WHO WAS A HOMOSEXUAL. AND THEY HANG HIS PHOTO AND CALL IT GOD AND WORSHIP IT ASKING FOR EVERYTHING FROM IT. NO WONDER THEY (AFRICAN CHURCHIANISTS) HAVE NOTHING.
AFRICAN CHRISTIANISTS ARE NOT ONLY HYPOCRITES, SAYING THEY BELIEVE IN WHAT THEY TRUELY DO NOT BELIEVE AND CANNOT BELIEVE IN, THEY ARE ALSO SO BRAIN-DEAD. IT TAKES ONLY A SICK-BRAINED TO BELIEVE THAT ONE INDIVIDUAL IS MAN, HOLY SPIRIT, GOD, LORD, MESSANGER, MESSIAH, WHITE MAN, BLACK MAN, FATHERLESS, HAS FATHER, SEXLESS, HAD SEX, ETC. AND DIED IN 001BC FOR YOUR SINS OF 2012 AD AND HE ROSE AGAIN AFTER THREE DAYS AND VANISHED INTO THIN AIR. AND WAS NOT THERE TO SAVE YOU FROM 1455 TO 1955 OF YOUR HOLOCUAST, (THE WORSE HOLOCAUST IN HUMAN HISTORY THAT CANNOT BE COMPARED TO ANY SUFFERING IN HISTORY), THEN HE RETURNED AFTER THAT AND FORGAVE YOUR 500 SOLID/SORDID YEARS HOLOCAUSTERS, BUT IS HOLDING ANGER AGAINST HITLER’S 5YEARS HOLOCAUST OF ASKANAZITES, AND HOLDING ANGER AGAINST MEN WHO LOOK AT WOMEN (AND NOT WOMEN WHO SEX-PROVOKE AND ENTICE MEN), ETC. NO SANE BRAIN CAN TAKE THIS CRAP. CHURCHIANITY, THE RELIGION(OPIUM RATHER) OF THE SICK-BRAINED, IS THE WORSE KILLER OF AFRICA’S PROGRESS !.
THESE CHURCHIANITY CHURCHIANISTS ARE THE BIGGEST FOOLS AND THIEVES ON EARTH. !!!!
I WAS IN GHANA RECENTLY AND WENT TO A CHURCH AND MY HEART WAS BROKEN. WHY, BECAUSE I SAW A PASTOR(AND MOST PASTORS DO) ROBB THE POOR AFRICANS OF ALL THEIR MONIES AT BIBLE-POINT. HE STUFFED ALL CHAIRS WITH ENVELOPES B4 THEY SAT, THEN HE ASKED THEM ALL TO TAKE THE ENVELOPES AND STUFF THEM WITH MONIES. I SAW ALL OF THEM MORONICALLY FILLING THE ENVELOPES WITH MONEY FROM THEIR POCKETS.
THEN HE ASKED THEM TO RAISE THE ENVELOPES AND HE PRAY FOR THEM. THEY MORONICALLY DID. THEN HE SAID HE HAS BLESSED THE MONIES IN JESUS NAME. THEN, UNBELIEVABLY AND INCONCEIVABLY, HE CALLED USHERS TO BRING HUGE BASKETS AND COLLECTED ALL THE MONEY FROM THE POOR AFRICANS. I MEAN HE IMPOVERISHED THEM THE MORE(THIS IS WHY 90% OF AFRICAN CIVIL SERVANTS AND POLITICIANS ARE THIEVES, BECAUSE ONLY STOLEN MONEY CAN BE INSULTED AND ABUSED THIE WAY.
I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE TWO OF THE MOST RENOUNED PASTORS (WHO TALK IN PUBLIC LIKE THEY WONT CHEAT ANY MAN A PENNY) ALSO COME TO THE EVENT TO HELP THAT THIEVING PASTOR ROB THE PEOPLE.
THEN THE ROBBING PASTOR(AS IF THERE ARE SOME WHO DON’T ROBB) ASKED USHERS TO BRING HIS BOOKS(BOOKS HE HAS WRITTEN). THEY BROUGHT THEM IN FOUR BOOKS PACKAGES.
HE SAID HE WAS BLESSING THE BOOKS TO SELL TO THEM. TO MY SHOCK AND BEWILDERMENT, HE SOLD EACH SET OF FOUR BOOKS AT GH1,000 (THOUSAND NEW GHANA CEDIS) TO SOME PEOPLE THERE. ALL LIVE BEFORE MY EYES. I CREIED THAT DAY SOBERLY FOR THE STUPIDITY OF BLACK PEOPLE, BECAUSE YOU CAN’T FOOL EVEN ANIMALS THAT WAY.
NOW, IF THIS NAKED ROBBERY AND COCAINE BARONHOOD IS NOT IMPOVERISHING AFRICANS, THEN NOTHING IN THE WORLD IS IMPOVERISHING THEM. AS LATE AS THE LAST WEEK OF JULY 2016, AN AFRICAN PASTOR WAS FOUND TO HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT OF 1.4million pound sterling IN HIS ACCOUNT IN LONDON. WHAT SATANIC BEHAVIOR IS THIS?.
THE GREATEST IMPOVERISHER OF AFRICANS IS CHURCH AND CHURCHIANITY, THE WORSE OPIUM OF THE AFRICAN MASSES. INFACT PHYSICAL SLAVERY CANNOT DO THE DAMAGE THE CHURCH IS DOING TO AFRICA AND AFRICANS. CHURCH MAKES AT LEAST 70% OF ITS AFRICAN FOLLOWERS IDIOTIC, STUPID, BRAIN DEAD, MORONIC, AND, WORSE OF ALL POOOOOOOR!!!.
I WATCHED THEM ALL GETING UP AND DANCING TO THAT ROBBERY AND SHAKING THEIR FOOLISH BODIES LIKE INTOXICANTS. I FELT SO INSULTED AS AN AFRICAN LOOKING AT THOSE MORONS.
LETS BE HONEST ABOUT IT TO THE DEEPEST OF OUR HEARTS. HOW ON EARTH CAN ANY CHRISTIAN EXCEPT AN INSINCERE AND DISHONEST FOOL, CONVINCE HIMSELF/HERSELF AND ANYBODY(EXCEPT A BLIND SINGING-DANCING MORON) THAT JESUS 1. "JESUS IS GOD" 2. "JESUS IS GOD'S SON" 3. "JESUS IS LORD" 4. "JESUS IS WHITE" 5. "JESUS DIED FOR SOME SINS WITH HIS BLOOD" 6. “JESUS IS THE WORLD”, 7. “THE WORLD WAS MADE FOR JESUS” 8. “JESUS IS GOD IN HUMAN FORM WHO CAME DOWN TO EARTH” TO EAT AND SHITT AND GET KILLED ETC. AND A WHOLE LIST OF FOOLISH AND UNTHINKING THINGS. AND THEY TRY TO FORCE IT OVER THE NATIONAL CONSTITUTION AND UNDER THE THROAT OF EVEN REASONING GHANAIANS. YOU SEE THEM ALL OVER THE MARKETS THERE IN GHANA, AND IN BUSES AND ROAD PAVEMENTS; CONFUSING THE CITIZENRY AND MAKING THEM LAZY AND VERY UNTHINKING.
THESE FOOLISH CHURCHIANISTS AND CHRISTIANISTS AND THEIR STEALING PASTORS SHOULD SHUT UP THEIR DEAD BRAINS OFF AND ALLOW GHANA AND AFRICA TO GROW. GHANA IS NOT A CHURCH. I GET SICK, INFACT VERY SICK, ANY TIME I AM IN GHANA AND SEE THOSE THIEVES AND HOW THEY ARE DESTROYING AND IDIOTISING GHANA.
SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE EVIL POPES OF ROME :
(1) "I hereby decree today in the year of our lord 1455, that black people are inferior BY gEN. 9:20, and are animals, and should be taken and shipped by europeans and be sold in the americas. The first slave ship-load shall be mine, to be called Jesus Christ of lebeth, to be captained by my rev. missionary john hawkings. let all ship-loads and all enslavers of Africans pass without let...."
(2) "My priests and pastors fucking male children's anuses, and my Vatican bank involving in International Money Laundering have reached un-imaginable dimension. So I resign"
- My words, Ratsinger Benedict, pope, vatican, 2010
-bbc 21/12/2010
(3) “Give the inferior Africans the bible and the church and the christian doctrine, and let them know by it that they are inferior, and that Jesus and God are one, and are our colour, and thus you would have removed the sense of self from them and made them subservient to us and our colour for ever. We in Europe wisely don’t believe these things, but the bible and church are our weapon against those inferior people, and there is no better weapon. With these things we shall control them and their resources in perpertuity”.
- Willie Lynch, british enslaver, Jamaica, 1712
“With our overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah, we have removed light from the eyes of black people, and they will never be able to see light again without Nkrumahism”.
- British MP, Hse of “ lords”, 1966
THE WORSE THING EVER TO HAPPEN TO GHANA AND AFRICA IN RECENT YEARS, INDEED ALL OUR LIFE ON EARTH , IS PRIESTS, PASTORS AND CHURCHIANITY, (WHAT THEY CALL “CHRISTIANITY” –WE KNOW WHAT TRUE CHRISTIANITY IS).
THE GREATEST THIEVES AND ARMED ROBBERS ARE PASTORS AND THE POPE HIMSELF. THEY HAVE STOLEN THE PEOPLE AND STATE, CONFUSED THE PEOPLE AND STATE, EMBEZZLED THE PEOPLE AND STATE AND CONFUSED AFRICA AND AFRICANS FOR A VERY LONG TIME. THE POPE MAKES OVER $150MILLION DOLLARS FROM POOR AFRICA ALONE, EACH YEAR, AND FOR HIS PASTORS, NOBODY CAN COUNT HOW MUCH THEY STEAL FROM THE POOR MASSES EVERY YEAR.-by my order. nicholas viii, pope, vatican, 1455.
“Churchianity or Chris-tianity makes Africans or Black people silly, stupid, cowardly, unthinking, “white” people-fearing and worshipping, corruptive, Zombie-ic, afraid, foolish, morally-hypnotized into foolishness, action-less, frozen-skinned and Frozen-brained, cannot think critically, self-inferiorating, moronic, believing-in and dancing to any nonsense and crap that cannot be explained or even understood, satisfied-with-poverty and wretchedness, unwilling to speak or accept the truth against evil europe(their 500years holocauster, satan’s home and home of homosexuality); always willing to bend down at the knees of thieving europe and give them all their God-given resources in turn for cramps and “loans” and a “white” colonizing Jesus giving away all their monies to thieving pastors to send to Europe and make Europeans richer and Africans poorer, susceptible to any kind of illogical beliefs and foreign colonization, and neo-colonization, willing to be under the feet of evil europe forever and to be permanent slaves to evil europe forever, un-wlling forever to get de-colonised, always loving the homosexuals of Europe, calling them “fellow Christians” but disliking their fellow countrymen who look like them but are not “Christians”, calling them “abonsam”, difficult to admire or even understand the urgent need for African Emancipation and Unity. There is something really fundamentally wrong with the thinking of people of our race who believe in the church. Church is nothing but the belief in and promotion of “white” supremacy. Churchianity is Ku Klux Klanity” . –Kunta Kinte
God Bless Africa, And curse evil europe(Africa’s REAL ENEMY, HITLER AND HOLOCAUSTER), and curse them and their dirty-filthy-nasty-satanic ancestors, again and again, Amen!!

Even though, the so called man of God did write that "he is not saying that farming is bad..." It is just a statement in which he does not believe. For if you read in between the lines, you will know that he is actually saying the youth should not go into farming because according to him 70% of people in Ghana are engaged in farming. This is a figure I seriously doubt. The precentages he gave in developed countries and America a woefully wrong. Apart from that those in the developed countries have the means for mechanized farming and you can't compare that with manual farming. Sometimes this very Otabil does not just make sense at all.

I don't think you really understood the import of which he is saying. Let me try to explain what he's saying. He says there are far more people already in farming so adding more hands to farming isn't necessarily the smartest thing to do. There is a whole lot of sense in what he is saying. That's how smart people do things. He isn't saying that farming isn't a good and rewarding thing to do. I'm a farmer and I really enjoy what I'm doing. I hope I've succeeded in explaining things to you. Please don't be too quick to condemn and worst still insult people. We don't do that in a civilised society.

It really doesn't hurt much when people who are on the same level with u on the social ladder insult you but ironically, those ones don't cos they really understand what it means to build a repute but it's always people like you who have no class at all n prolly some substandard education who run successful people down cos u see dem as enemies n u don't understand why dey shd have it n not u.. Pls dont be angry with life by taking it on others. U can also aim at it n get there n then you'll apprecite people who have built a repute thru hardwork. Israel is a major exporter of fresh produce and a world-leader in agricultural technologies although more than half of the land area is desert, and the climate and lack of water resources do not favor farming. Only 20% of the land area is naturally arable. In 2008, agriculture represented 2.5% of total GDP and 3.6% of exports. While farmworkers made up only 3.7% of the work force, Israel produced 95% of its own food requirements, supplementing this with imports of grain, oilseeds, meat, coffee, cocoa and sugar. The problem with farming in Ghana is not about the number of people involved. The numbers [Around 60%] are enough. Only that our farming practices are archaic. Dr Otabil have a soft spot for the NPP and Dr Nana Akuffo Addo/Dr Bawumiah's policy of 1 Dam 1 Village is to promote farming. Or should it be only in the North? The youth must be excluded?
Perhaps being an investor, enthusiastic and motivational speaker, preacher of the gospel as well, he must invest heavily in mechanised farming which is predominantly lacking. It is really great to churn out graduates without jobs in the hope that there will be job creations. Successive Governments have been chastised for youth unemployments
Naturally the call to go to the land will have specific targets. A lad who is maximising the use of his brain may not even hear the call to go to the land. What about street hawkers and those who will not pursue academic excellence?
When Gen Ignatius Kutu Acheampong raised the call, many welcome it but not all. Most Government workers resigned their jobs and took offers to become farmers. Food production is central to every developing nation and the fact that our industry has not reached the stage where not one single tomatoe plucked will go to waste, there will be need for more farmers.
Academia and those talented in their respect trades will also be hearing their call in their fields.
Calls go out to farmers, to apprentices as his Excellency has indicated and was even ear-marking for the kayayei in the Regions.
Ghana will always need farmers and it is not a profession which should be looked down upon because it smells ILLITERACY.
Farmers coming in young can lobby their representatives of Government to establish factories that will preserve their produce instead of always marketing farm produce as raw food from the farms.
Organised farming requires real brains and proper representation. Old and uneducated Rice farmers, Maize farmers, Cassava Farmers, Cocoa farmers, Millet farmers and those in animal husbandry can make little impact. Government has to plan for future generations by encouraging the youth who could actually find a very rewarding career in farming to take the challenge.
This article may be in good spirit, but the Government is having future generations in focus by now appealing to the youth.

Mensa Otabil has got it all wrong. The dynamics in those countries are completely different from ours. So what does this man want us to do? To jump and be like the Americans and Europeans. It is easy to always talk the way Otabil does when your rise to entrepreneurship and riches are anchored in pastoral work where you do not have to go through all the dynamics of contemporary difficult and chaotic economic environment to be success. Europe and America have their histories, so it will be better for us to go check what it was during the eras of the slave trade and industrial revolution. Ghana has not,2
and will not get the benefits of the pre-colonial and colonial era situations that benefitted the West. Thus, we are today confronted with huge global economic meltdown that demands that we look more to ourselves for our future survival, and encouraging the youth to go into agriculture is one rout we can take. If Otabil feels otherwise let him guide to the quickest and easiest way to address our problems, more so the ever growing youth unemployment.

Mensa Otabil should stick with the pulpit, his followers and the Bible and leave other things alone unless he knows what he's talking about. In developed nations like the US and or developing emerging market nation like Brazil a 6 percent farming figure is covered by majority multinational companies in terms of output or food production outcomes and their reliance on seasonal farm labourers from other poor natiobs who Mensa-Otabil perhaps fail to count as human beings.
Mensa-Otabil should provide figures on Ghana's secondary/high school and university/college student population who are in fields of study out of their own volition and desires. Parents in Ghana, including Mensa-Otabil have used their stature as funding sources for their wards to dictate what students take in school through desirable lifestyle choices to associations. Ghanaians cannot feed themselves but in the Mensa-Otabil world of pulpit hypocrites being a first class shameless pastor or overlord in a church building is preferable to being a young farmer or perhaps less than a beggar nation with hand out for pennies from Western nations. Or maybe in Mensa-Otabil's perfect world farming should be reserved for the poor before God forbid the sons and daughters of the elite class get into farming. What a lying hypocritical SOB using God's name to make dummies out of blinded congregation and fans.

Is it true that 70% of the national population declare farming as their occupation?
I wonder, whether Ghana bureau of statistics is doing a good job. When it comes to economic growth and GDP, figures are manipulated to satisfy the government of the day.
Pastor Otabil is trying to say that, if it is true that 70% of Ghanaians are farmers, then we don't need farmers anymore, because the youth should learn something else to develop the country.
He calls for quality farming methods not the archaic methods, which have engaged almost three-quarter of the population in farming(if is true).
Some well-trained Agriculture graduates should be given all resources needed, and encouraged as farm managers. They should in turn, use modern farming methods to produce food in commercial quantities.
What about bringing in expatriate farmers who would set up commercial farms, employing some of the youth?

Anyone has the right to disagree with him but to insult him is not fair.
Now he had expressed his thoughts and you have a banter why not also speak it up?
What he said is very true. We don't need 70% of the population going into farming. How many of these 70% produce on a large scale? Just a handful.
We need to improve upon agriculture by using mechanical means instead of the man power ways which don't yield much anyways.
In America, about 6% of the population is into Agriculture and they produce to feed the entire country and even export some for foreign exchange.
Can't we also do same? Or we aren't human enough to think in that direction?
Guys you need to do critical thinking and stop these insults.

Substituting terms: Agriculture starts with the Policy makers to Research Scientists, then Educators: including formal & Extension, then Growers/ producers who are called farmers
Farmers rely on the knowledge of agric scientists, agric educators & agric engineers to fulfill the policy direction of resource needs
In their work farmers employ, labourers, economists, distribution chain before raw food gets to your kitchen and or warehouse to begin the export or manufacturing chain.
It means Rev Otabil could be right. The farmer who basically is an entrepreneur need not be many, it is those in agriculture that are many.
However a farmer should be smart to be able to use the basket of agric resources (human/ equipment)
Do not confuse Agriculture/ Farmer/ Workers

He seems to have a good message but always ends up hurting the sensibilities of people. How come? Make you point but in a way you don' the attract unnecessary criticism. The Government should be encouraged to put in the necessary infrastructure such as irrigation schemes for more youth to engage in farming. Why because it is the sector that can absorb most of most of the youth. The percentage of farmers in the US is 19% not 6%. Even then. the US and other countries did not arrive at that figure overnight. They also want through what we have now. Farming should not be seen as growing food only. Mensch Otabil ought to humble himself and rehearse his preaching with an expert to remove his rough edges and portions that are politically incorrect and offensive.

I agree with the pastor to some extent. Before I begin can we show a little bit of respect to our social leaders by not insulting them, please? Young people have all sorts of ideas which could be transformed into developing the nation, you can tell. These guys end up with their knowledge doing SAAKAWA, just to defraud people. I have been saying that these ideas the youngsters have could even be used to develop a software that can fuel economic development, with the that encouragement from the state. We are in the computer age now and if you see how college students over here in the USA continuously shine with new ideas to assist industry in general you will be amazed. So farming must not be the last resort. An institution set up for emancipation young people in Ghana has been rather used to play politics. When two giants fight, it is the grass that suffers.

Pastor, most Ghanaians don't understand what you are saying. Your analysis is too complex even for the so called Legon educated politicians. Farming is the last choice of occupation preached by politicians because they failed to provide hope for the youth. You are very right . In the developed countries, farming is not just a choice but an occupation supported by government and their communities. l am talking about funding, technology and quality labor that yield quality output. The opposite is the case in Ghana and Africa where farming belongs to the failed population. It is the mindset pastor that is killing our country. Politicians are only interested in buying and riding Four by Four for everyone to see. It is cheap, inferiority complex and poor imitation of what goes on in the West. It appears that you are the only pastor that speaks a little bit of sense in this country. Keep up the good work

Those students are the type of people we should be encouraging into farming to increase productivity. At the moment most of the agic graduates are unemployed graduates. They study the commercial aspect of farming as well as the technical side. They will know how to store the food, and would not plant in areas where they cannot transport to the market. They will be able to lobby the politicians to place roads in strategic locations and the less productive farmers can move to factories and commerce or other activities where they can benefit more.
This is where the one district one factory comes in.With factories even the illiterates can still get jobs and create the tax revenue to allow the government to provide adult education for the older but unproductive farmers who took on farming as a last resort to undertake other commercial activities.

Pass your comments with u abusive words to the minister's view that is maturity.Attack the issue not personalities.
Tell maham a and his incompetent government to push their children into farming cuz some of us want our youth to pursue education that offers new ideas, initiative and that booms an economy.

I'm shocked at the naivety of those who are raining insults on the respected man of God. You guys need to travel and see how other places handle their agriculture sector. We need more industries to harness the talents and potentials of our youth. How will the economy grow when some lazy politicians out of their inability to think and expand our industrial subsector of our economy suggest that youth in Ghana must go into agriculture and can set up a program like Youth in Agriculture, youth in traffic management, youth in sanitation etc. Where are the engineers and research scientists, the architectures etc, are we saying all these fine brains should shoulder go into agriculture? Please think and stop this insults when people share their opinions

When we overly clad our sense of comprehension with dirty and infantile politics, we tend to attack wisdom when it is spewed. If a nation could only boast of its human resource capacity especially the youth as farmers, where lies its future. All you think about is a vicious cycle of eat-sleep-wake up. When agriculture is developed with all the expected inputs, just a few people Will go into it. Now, where did the man of God go wrong?. Whether u like it or not, Rev.Doctor Mensah Otabil is a chosen man of God. So also are Revs. Duncan Williams,Sam Kuranchie Ankrah, Dag Heward Mills and a few others. Insulting a man of God of this stature means u always insult your pastor or your imam. Do you know the implication?. You are reducing your life expectancy. I will plead u come back on this platform quickly to apologise for God to have Mercy on you. How dare you?.

I wonder when people say 70% of Ghanaian are farmers. Population of 26million including children with abt 3million people leaving in Accra, not to talk abt the other capital cities ad other urban towns. Clearly 70% of the people can't be in farming our data is not correct and need to be check to get the actual no of people who are into farming. More people are into petty trading which don't earn them much income. We need more productive industries or jobs that can employ more people ad boost the economy. After all the data is not correct ad need to be revised.

I believe Pastor Mensah Otabil's assessment has been misconstrued. What I have deduced from his comments on the youth and farming is that for a country of our size, we do not need more than half of the population being farmers, which is just perpetuating a culture of waste. Presently, an average of 70% of the country's population is into farming, and because there is very few more people at the processing and manufacturing level, the 70% producers churn out much more than is needed at any given time, and much of the produce go to waste. What he might have missed to add was that the youth can join the agricultural industry at the many different levels, other than at the raw- producer level.
Lots if tomatoes, plantains, cassava, okroes, garden eggs, yams to name a few, presently go to waste, with few hands at the processing level of the industry to add more value to them, to preserve and save them going to waste.
Certainly, for a country of the population of Ghana, we do not need more than half the population being farmers?

I BELIEVE MY VERY PASTOR OTABIL GOT IT ALL WRONG. HIS POINTS ARE BASELESS AND THE FIGURES HE QUOTED ARE INSIGNIFICANT. WHERE FROM FACTS AND HOW IS HE REFERRING TO THE PEOPLE THAT PRODUCE FOOD FOR US. I THINK HE HAS A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FARMING AND FARMERS. I'VE NOT COME ACROSS ANY RESEARCH POINTING OUT TO THE FACT THAT HIGHLY EDUCATED PERSONS ARE BEING LOWERED AS FARMERS. THIS IS AN INSULT TO FARMERS. FARMING IS A VERY LUCRATIVE VENTURE THAT SOME OF US ARE EVEN LOOKING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO INVEST IN. WHY SHOULD HE SPEAK LIKE THAT? I DON'T BELIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT IS AT WORK HERE. GOD HIMSELF ASKED US TO TILL THE LAND BEFORE WE EAT. IT IS OUR DUTY TO MAKE GOOD USE OF THE LAND. FARMING IS NOT MEANT FOR ONLY THE ILLITERATES AS HE WANTS US TO BELIEVE. PROFESSORS ARE FARMING. EVEN THE FORMER UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL, MR. KOFI ANNAN IS NOW INTO AGRICULTURE AND ENCOURAGING ALL OF US TO ENGAGE OURSELVES IN IT. AFRICA CAN NEVER BE COMPARED TO THE DEVELOPED WORLD AND I CAN SAY WITH AUTHORITY THAT GOD HAS ENDOWED US WITH A LOT OF RESOURCES THAT OTHER CONTINENTS DO NOT HAVE. WE ARE BLESSED BY OUR LOCATION. I ALWAYS LOVE TO LISTEN TO YOUR TEACHINGS BUT I DISAGREE WITH YOU BY THE POINTS YOU'VE RAISED. I CANNOT SAY I'M DISAPPOINTED IN YOU BUT YOU'VE RATHER BEEN MISLED TO DRIVE US AWAY FROM WHAT WE SUPPOSE TO KNOW. GO BACK TO YOUR PILLOW AND TELL US WHAT IS RIGHT. YOUR TEACHINGS MOVE ME BUT THIS ONE DID NOT MOVE ME AT ALL. PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING!

There is a big problem with our intellectuals because they go to the absurd extend of telling the whole world that students from whom they themselves collect fee from and lecture in their own private universities are not qualified for the job market. Unfortunately parents continue to send their children to those universities and pay their fees. Dr. Mensah Otabil has not established any factory so he should be well aware that the majority of graduates from our universities have to take farming as an occupation for the meantime until he have build factories and service companies that can employ them.

In any case, you need to live in and understand the US to understand what the very low farming population producing all the food has done and is doing the people. This one, I will disagree with the renowned pastor. Why can you advise the youth not to go into faming? May be the Pastor is talking about subsistence faming and not mechanized farming.
In the US, there are about 2.2 million farms. Most of these farms are operated by family partnerships or family corporations. Farm and ranch families comprise just 2 percent of the US population. Thus only 2% of the population feeds the remaining 98%.
The youth must be encouraged into mechanized farming because it's a fertile ground for economic progress and also the opportunities are endless. It's very unfortunate that my pastor got this one wrong. He's normally right on most issues of national interest. His position on this one is over the bar!
