Ignorant and stupid, outsiders could come in to take their profies for a ride, not forgetting resources in cheap currencies. This why he was educating for confident built up into citizenry, a.k.a young pioneers. Nkrumah lived, schooled, experienced and exposed into what was Democrazy/capitalism, not to hate it or went far from that knowhow. Lee Kwan Yew of Singapore was another typical example of Nkrumah, an Oxford product, refused to seek laureate in UK, but transfered his innermost potential for his native land in some form of dictatorship for the well being of that little nation call Singapore of counted developed societies on the globe. Professor Adei has been insulting the NDC for incompetence and simply put raising the standards in favour of Textbook Dr Bawumiah and Dr Akuffo Addo who he described as a Legal luminary.

Now, he is on the Osagyefo too? But no living human being could ever be perfect. The West that aided the overthrow of the Osagyefo despite the denial of the UP as being in collaboration with the West to topple him has now come up to confirm that "Yes, there was ever present threat to remove Dr Nkrumah and even to poison him". The sickness which eventually killed the Osagyefo in exile is debatable - systematic food poisoning?

Dr Nkrumah won 70% of the vote whilst he was still in prison. He agitated for self-rule now so that we can learn from our mistakes as the West has also learned from their mistakes. The UP wanted independence delayed until when, nobody could tell.

It is unthinkable how a man with 70% mandate from the people would be classified a Dictator if that was the mandate he has received. Not being a Dictator will mean subjecting himself to minority policies. Is this not democracy? When the small minority refused to co-operate with the policy of the majority but would only contribute to anything if their minority views are adopted, will that not be suicide to Democracy?

When there is real attempts on your life, you will be confused and your visions impaired. The West actually sabotaged his 7 year development plan. The UP and the NPP in its present form has not admitted this position as contributing to the woes of Ghana.

The UP refused to co-operate with him in any initiative in this new baby country. In the end, he must rule alone or with the few on hand to come up with suggestions. Dr Nkrumah boasts of even vetting every single contracts issued for jobs to be done for the new Nation State, Ghana. Of particular mention was the Akossombo Dam but not exclusive.

Dr Nkrumah, the U.S.A. voted as the African of The Century - thus making Ghana proud to have him. That he did not get everything right is childish prank. Is he not a mortal being?

How has Professor Adei done is his private life? Has he got everything right? Dr Nkrumah attested to conditions that moved him to the Communist block when a bag of cocoa which could sell for say $5 has been pegged at $1 by the West (take it or leave it) to frustrate his 7 years development plan. The opposition so-called luminaries who should cry for the ills that is befalling Ghana were jubilating at the hardships which Ghanaians were going through because of shift of policies due to grossly reduced anticipated revenues.

Attempts were made on his life and again as Professor Adei himself will attest to, the UP henchmen who were jailed were tried by Court of Law in Ghana and were sentenced to "DEATH". It was Dr Nkrumah who commuted their sentence to "life instead of death". The UP believe in Law and Order.

In presenting to Ghana a ONE PARTY STATE, all he was telling Ghanaians was 70% and still growing popularity, it will be waste of our money to have a divided Parliament which will waste money that could help our development.

Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Houphet Biogny of Ivory Coast etc etc who
were contemporaries of Dr Nkrumah had un-interrupted rule for years stabilising their countries. How they did it was outside the scope of this text. It was only here in Ghana that the Opposition saw every move of the Osagyefo as Dictatorship - the proverbial "Konongo Kaya"

It is true, they the big 5 had brought him to Ghana. They had put him on salary, but Ghanaians love his policies which even today the NPP shamelessly has adopted without glorying the Osagyefo. Who will believe that a UP Tradition will emerge proposing Free Education, Free Medical Care - subsidised this and that but that was what the Osagyefo brought to Ghana.

The likes of Professor Adei are still touting Academia and business enterpreneurship experience as credentials for ruling Ghana. This same position was the bedrock behind the conflict of CPP and UP. What will ever change with the NPP copyists who wish the socialists to step aside for them to implement a policy they had hated from inception of their Party?

The detractors of the Osagyefo naturally saw him as Dictator treating Ghanaians like slaves which is a shame really.

They are doing the same thing to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The outdated elitist mentality has no place in Ghanaian politics.

He was also a blood-thirsty communist dictator that declared himself president for life, demonized the opposition and treated Ghanaians like slaves. Like Kwame Nkrumah, Mahama didn't grow our economy. He only borrowed more money to land our nation in HIPC, received more money from oil and higher taxes to waist on unnecessary inflated projects. Before you talk about nkrumah you have to put things into perspective.
Nrumah was not a communist but a socialist and this so called professor should know the difference(nkrumah will like a lot of people to have equal share of the national cake than a few taking large shares and giving cramps to the masses- i.e capitalism). In the 60s things were not like now- The political situation was very different- we (blacks)were in fact just come out of slavery all over the world- we were in dire need of emancipation and self believe. The reason why nkrumah's economy failed by 1966 was because he had an AMBITIOUS african agenda for unity and therefore collective growth which did not go too well with the oppressors who for 400 years have been exploiting, raping, enslaving etc etc etc etc the African PEOPLE & continent. Unfortunately with the help of traitors (yes fellow blacks) within our mist the neo-colonialist sabotaged the economy. Price of Cocoa which was our main source of revenue at that time dropped so we could not get enough revenue for growth-guess who manipulated the price fall of the cocoa? The neo-colonialist. My only fault with Nkrumah is that he made Ghana a one Party State(That he had no right to do)-he should not have forced himself on Ghanaians and should have let things take their natural course so we learn from our mistakes even if the traitors win. But i know even if Nkrumah made ghana capitalist or whatever we still would not have survived because the neo-colonialist who had the power then and do still have now to some extent would have sabotaged it anyway. Prof Stephen Adei is a good critic but his conclusions are not in safe hands. He was right to say that in the first 10 years of Nkrumah's government – beginning from 1951 when he was Leader of Government Business until 1960 when he became President of Ghana as a republic – “did very well” next to Pan-Africanism champion.

But Prof Adei went berserk when he said adding: “But once we became a republic, he undid all he had achieved. Winning self-rule from the British, he presided over Ghanaians as if they were slaves.” That is a blind conclusions. The policy was work and happiness discipline. Nkrumah was against laziness in Ghana.

Dr Nkrumah, according to Prof Adei, also moved Ghana from a free market economy to a communist one such that most industries in the country had become less profitable in their operations, racking up “huge debts and all”. “So, in all honesty…by 1966, he had destroyed the nation,” he continued.

The economy was sound and it was Ghanaians who were poor and in understanding who destroyed what Nkrumah had built. Prof Adei is not an honest critic of Nkrumah. There was no debt; only reasonable national development debt. Nkrumah laid the foundation of import independency, rejection of aid, rejection of perpetual dependency on donors and industrialization of Africa and Ghana. Nkrumah's evaluation of the Ghana and the African economy was second to none in the world. The economy must evolve according to the necessities and not according to any economic dogma of Prof Adei..

Prof. Adei is lying through his clenched teeth! Nkrumah never treated Ghanaians like Slaves. How can these relics of Cold War stooges of Imperialism ever stop claiming to be the ultimate authorities of everything that led to our Independence and in the Nkrumah's era, and choose to rewrite History to suit their political flavor?

Nowhere in Ghana were any signs of Communism pervasive even at the peak of Nkrumah's efforts to make Ghana a Socialist State. Nkrumah did not go any far with those Socialist ideals of his before he was overthrown. So, it is a plain lie that it was because of some imposition of Communist methodologies on our Industries that the Factories began to fall in productivity.

Having less qualified Managers at the helm of affairs due to improper evaluation of candidates for positions because of Partisan nepotism was more the case in the Industries that were mismanaged. The influence of the Workers Union in deciding who Manages the Companies began to rise but was immediately arrested by other stakeholders who were keener on seeing growth in productivity and fairness in promotions, etc. That resulted in a hectic conflict within the Trade Union.

Even so, most of the Industries were doing fine when the Coup occurred. Obviously, majority of them were still young and had not reached the point of breaking even. Complaints that the Industries were not making profits was bogus. Even in the purest Capitalist Countries, companies do not make profits until they break even.

The fear of some of the Industries not making the mark was there due to the conflicts in who and how they ought to run them. But that confusion was never settled in one way or another until the Coup struck.

We should be honest about these issues. The Bolga Meat Factory and the Atebubu Groundnut Oil Factory, for example, were doing very well at the time the Coup happened. So were the Nsawam Cannery and the Tyre Factory at Bonsaso. The real problems that tanked these Factories came in the NLC era when the Soldiers closed many of the Factories down without any proper transitional process to divest them.

Meanwhile, why doesn't Prof. Adei concede the murderous activities of his Opposition friends who were killing and maiming innocent folks indiscriminately because they would not stop at anything in assassinating Nkrumah?

Nkrumah never had any of his worst enemies put in a cage like an animal to be paraded around in the streets of Accra. But the UP inspired NLC stooges of Imperialism did just that. It is interesting that it is always the PDA and Nsawam Prison alone that Nkrumah's foes cite to substantiate their allegations of Nkrumah's 'wicked' Dictatorship. But it is only fair to say that if the attempts to unseat Nkrumah did not take a murderous turn, no one would have been thrown into jail.

For me the real hero was Charles Arden-Clarke who was adamant and resolute in getting Ghana's independence on a right footing and making a success of it. The good thing was he had a successful working relationship with Nkrumah, but he often despaired about the future president being no more than a "showboating showboy". Read his memoirs, it's an eye-opener.

Who did Nkrumah treat like Slaves? Tell us! Why didn't Adei mention the murderous rampage of the Opposition that could have led Nkrumah to be so harsh on suspected treason perpetrators? No one is perfect. And Nkrumah had his mortal flaws.

But to lie that he treated people as Slaves is beyond excuse for hyperbole. You may well be a die-hard UP/NLM or "Matemeho" supporter, and you have every right to be. You have the right to even hate Nkrumah. But, please, quit hiding behind sacrosanct religious titles to propagate falsehoods to the World, even about your enemies.

God is watching and listening to your mendacious mouthfuls. And if you care to live up to your calling, then you need to keep to the facts. We know Nkrumah resorted to punishing his political foes with harsh Jail-terms, and his Security Agents preempted suspected crimes by these folks with jailing without trial. That was wrong.

However, don't we see similar trend in Western Nations today, even now that we think the World has come far into advanced Civilization and honoring Human Rights?

The USA's policy of Extraordinary Rendition that involves plucking people suspected to be Al-Qaeda members or sympathizers from their home country without their countries' Governmental permission and throwing them into Gizmo for years without trial and tortured is even worse than what Nkrumah did but you all remain mute over that.

In the Extraordinary Rendition, some people get zapped with bombs from drones to eternity. How do you see that for a moral cause, and championing Democracy and the rule of Law? Isn't that moral failing associated with Gizmo why President Obama decided to close the place down on his watch? We did not see Dr. Busia or President Kufuor shut Nsawam Prison down for its notoriety for housing suspected high-profile political criminals.

Well, we may all agree that if the USA deems it justified to carry on policies of that nature to secure the lives of her Citizens, then Nkrumah also was justified in jailing bomb-throwing killers of innocent folks in his era. It seems Nkrumah might have thought well ahead of the Americans in that regard. Would that not qualify for his visionary attributes, too?

Prof Adei, it is no use trying to rewrite history for political gain. If Nkrumah was 'despotic', you should also talk about the Matemeho mob who wanted to destabilize our country through vile acts of terrorism, including repeated assasination attempts on Nkrumah. If anything, Nkrumah was too lenient with these despicable nation-wreckers.

Their successors are still sowing division among themselves and among our people, and inciting inter-tribal violence.

Danquah lost heavily in the 1960 election and he knew they couldn't beat Kwame Nkrumah in any election. That's why they tried a lot of times to kill Nkrumah by shooting him and throwing bombs at him.
