The Chief Executive Officer of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), Dr. Charles Abugre, has disclosed that, $700 million is required to complete the Pwalugu Multi-purpose Dam project in the Upper East Region.
Parliament in 2008 contracted a loan of $525 million from Brazil to construct the Pwalugu Multi-purpose dam and the Juala Dam in the Northern Region.
Although Ghana received the money in 2009, government abandoned the projects and diverted the funds for the construction of the Eastern corridor road.
Speaking at the 7th assembly meeting of the Bongo District Assembly on the prospects of SADA, Dr. Abugre said, SADA is working through the government of Ghana to raise the $700 million from the World Bank to execute the Pwalugu Multi-purpose dam project.
He added that, the project has the capacity to irrigate about 20,000 hectors of land by gravity only, and 100,000 of hectors of land when pumped all year round farming.
The project has a generation capacity of about 250 megawatts of electricity, to supply to people of the Upper East Region.
“The cost of the project is about $700 million and all the paper work was completed six months ago; but there is some contention around the environmental impact which we are trying to deal with. It requires government’s commitment to mobilize the $700 million so what has SADA done?, we kept it in government priority agenda so we have pushed it on the World Bank and it can only start next year,” Mr. Abugre said.
But Spokesperson for the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in the SADA Zone, Bismark Adongo, described government’s diversion of funds meant for the Pwalugu Multi-purpose dam for the construction of the Eastern corridor road as unfair.
He said government must give back the diverted monies to SADA for the execution of the abandoned project to salvage the predicaments of the people.
“If the Pwalugu Multi-purpose dam project was executed in 2009, it would have addressed the issues of food insecurity, unemployment, poverty and provided cheaper electricity for the people in the region” Adongo stated.
SADA to resurrect failed tree planting exercise
Meanwhile, the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), has re-introduced the afforestation exercise in the savannah ecological zone, as a means of promoting its agricultural-led transformation agenda.
The SADA afforestation project under the leadership of former SADA head, Gilbert Iddi, failed after some months, but the current head, Dr. Charles Abugre, has promised that the exercise will be sustained in the zone.

Comment to: 4 MORE YRS FOR MAHAMA !!!!
The Ghana National Association of Teachers has described as unfortunate, President John Dramani Mahama’s unilateral decision not to restore the scrapped allowances for trainee teachers.
The scrap of the allowances in 2014 triggered protests by many people, especially the teacher trainees but President Mahama has maintained he will not succumb to pressure, noting he prefers to lose the elections than to restore the allowance.
Government claimed the payment of the allowance was having “huge cost implication for the national budget” and also caused it to scale down the number of students intake through the imposition of what we call the quota system.
Addressing students of the Cape Coast University last week, President Mahama claimed the withdrawal of the allowance has increased enrollment at the various colleges of education nationwide.
But the General Secretary of GNA, David Ofori Acheampong, says the president could have allowed for broader consultations before making the statement.
He said one of the reasons given for the withdrawal of the allowance was that facilities were going to be expanded to take more trainee teachers but noted that has not been done.
“The reason they gave was that they wanted to expand the facilities and as I speak to you now no facility has been expanded in any College of Education. Even as I speak to you today, there is a problem with the final years who are supposed to come out next year,” Mr Acheampong said.
Speaking to TV3’s Daniel Opoku, he denied claims by President Mahama that enrollment has increased since the cancellation of the training allowances.

Are the roads better than the dam that will create jobs and wealth. Don't you know that the dam can generate more funds to construct more roads? Imagine the millions of dollars that would be saved from the importation of crude oil if this dam is able to generate 250 Megawatts of cheap hydropower? Do you know that if this dam had been constructed people would not have paid higher electric tariffs as they are doiing today. Imagine the quantity of tilapia that would be produced.

Bt Nana, you have nothing meaningful or constructive to offer Ghana. You are somehow visionless, lacking logic and nothing constructive to offer we the youth. There is nothing beneficial to learn from you. Yes, you're good at lies and manipulations, political and tribal munging and self-aggrandisement. I can see that you are desperate to come to office and as you always seem to apply your 'all die be die' mantra. You talk boooooom without justifying it. No logic, lacking intelligence and demonstrating high level of arrogance instead. if you could give at least simple logic to some of your utterances you might cash some good voters but just talking to Ghanaians and making lose statements do not attract voters. I think you'll need more than just childish and fake promises to become a head of state

Mahama is most likely to retire the current flag bearer of the NPP Nana Akufo Addo.
Mahama's energy & drive alone have outpaced Nana Addo by far. Mahama effectively used his 4 years first term of office to raise resources to develop the much needed infrastructure that the country so badly needed.
Though his detractors used several subtle means to distruct his attention he kept his focus. Strange market fires & employees' strikes could not shift Mahama's focus.
He kept the country together in one piece & moved the nation forward in hope of even a much brighter future.
One very significant achievement that has so much overwhelmed MAHAMA's opponents is the LEGON UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL which they cannot bekieve Mahama built such that the former finance minister MR KWABENA DUFFUOR had to step in to set the records straight that indeed the NDC Govt raised funds for the construction of the said hospital.
ln fact the rate at which development is taking place throughout the country now has never been paralleled. The speed is too much for a a new incoming govt to cope with. It is so obvious even in the outlook of their campaigns - whiles Mahama's is full of vigour & life Nana's is dull & lifeless.
MAHAMA ALL THE WAY!!!
Incompetent, evil corrupt Mahama MUST go!!!! Amen.
