Peace Corps Volunteers sworn-in at Bolga

Bolgatanga, Nov. 21, GNA - The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mahami Salifu, on Friday assured Peace Corps volunteers of the continuous support and co-operation of the chiefs and people of the region.

He said the volunteers had undertaken small projects in some communities dotted around the region, and noted that such projects had contributed immensely towards a positive change in the lives of the people.

Mr Salifu said this at the swearing-in of 19 Peace Corps volunteers who had undergone a nine-week pre-service training.

He urged the Peace Corps volunteers to empower the people in the rural communities while at the same time serve as good ambassadors of their country.

The Country Director of the Peace Corps, Dr Howard Williams, who administered the oath, congratulated them for their volunteerism, and advised them to humble themselves and seek guidance from former colleagues and trainers when in difficulty.

He commended the trainers for a good work done and expressed appreciation to the host families, saying they have helped build the bridge between American and Ghanaian culture.
