  Sometimes, I don't understand some of these so called intellectuals. Which country in the world do reluctantly share power with those who don't want to partake in national government. Countries who try that system such as Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Ireland etc...always have gridlock in parliament. Mind you these countries are civilized countries. Can you imagine having such system to force these NPP animals into government? They will set fire to all the buildings and markets. Interestingly, when the bomb throwers are not in government, then they start saying all these. Do you even know how non Akans feel if they keep drumming that rubbish Twi dialect into our throats everyday?

  As you see, none of the parties had the 50 + 1%. If that country were in Ghana, there would be another election, a chane for the poiticians to BRIBE the masses with inentives and useless promisses.
  
  In a country like Germany, Party A or B would decide to go into COALITION with Party C, the coalition partners agreeing to some BINDING terms that would have to be executed when both of the rule.

  Governments are not the norm. They are exception and are products of proportional representation. In parliamentary democracies as you mentioned, coalition governments are possible. However, no party contests an election with the aim of forming a coalition government. Every party would aspire to win absolute majority so as to form a government, but the voters may split the votes thus denying any single party an absolute majority. However, in Ghana, we practice the Presidential system, something that hypocrites like Sam Jonah pretend to be unaware of. In this democratic arrangement there's no room for power-sharing.

  Any government is expected to be monitored and checked by the opposition against excesses. What happens when both the government and opposition are all in the same pocket.Assuming the same clique are in the executive, legislature and the judiciary as we have in some countries. Who checks who when they are all corrupt or thieves?They will coopt the media and all other constitutional bodies into a gang of thieves and then we are doomed for ever. An effective and competent opposition is the best antidote . We should avoid creating a clique of elitist gang of thieves and looters.

  IDEG is very right. We need to study and adopt proportional representation. It's better than the winner takes all system we have. It's practised in Scandinavia and some Wester European countries. In this system, every vote counts in allocation of parliamentary seats to the parties. It's fairer. It's not something new. It's been around for at least o ear 40 years! Parliament and EC and civil society need to work to effect this change within the next five years. It's a far better system!!! IDEG is very right.

  These Ghanaian lectures are always reminding Ghanaians about American democracy. Yet in America, there are two dominant political parties, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The dominance of these two parties in America has not caused citizens there to fear what Dr. Jonah is painting in Ghana.
  
  "Winner takes all" politics does not pose any threat to Ghana's democracy. Dr. Johan cannot rewrite the book on democracy when he never wrote it in the first place. When a political party in Ghana is not having a good day at the polls, suddenly there's a fear that Ghana's democracy is threatened. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

  This is not true. The threat to our nation is dishonesty in our governance discourse not 'the winner takes all politics'. Devolve power to to the provinces and power will spread.
