When the bill for converting all the training colleges were passed.All colleges of education became tertiary education just like the polytechnics and universities. The government used that same anolpgy to scrap t gh e training college allowance. Now by that same law, our teachers in colleges of Education are also tertiary teachers and need to paid like the lecturers and receive all allowances attached to that status and this time government is failing to recognize the law. The teachers had been too patient. Since 2004, what are they still negotiating. I support this strike cos am a professional teacher and have aspiration to be there one day

You claimed to have cancelled teacher trainees allowance because Colleges of Education are now tertiary institutions and that tertiary students do not take students allowances but students loans. Equally the tutors and other workers in Colleges of Education deserve to be treated as people working in tertiary institutions. Remember they were not the people who demanded that Colleges of Education be upgraded to tertiary status.

Then they will be recognise. Tertiary institutions are autonomous and write internal examinations. Does college of education autonomous? The students have been taken off the student allowance because they are now tertiary students, why can't the tutors/lecturers be treated as such. I think they should unite and fight this course because they have a case

I fully support these guys because the work of the teacher is enormous especially at that level where they have supervise students' project. Providing classrooms alone is not enough to improve upon our educational sector.

Are teachers in Colleges of Education under the GES ? If not, why refer to them as GES teachers ?We need not only be literate, we must as well be educated.
