There are some traditions across Africa that need to change. Traditions are good, but change that can bring progress should be welcomed.
The traditional way of governance, is all about display of power and riches. It is about intimidation and fear being put into people. They used to murder any one who questioned authority, today they would do the same but under the cover of darkness. Its is all about putting themselves above the law, this has become the trend, politicians put themselves above the law, they take what does not belong to them and find more ways to steal from the people and the people are used to it. They do not question how ministers, MPs, presidents, kings, queens, etc got their money to live their expensive life styles. They do not care if the teachers, doctors and nurses of their children are not paid etc. The other tradition that needs to change is "ayie." It is all about display of riches and how 'big' some people are. Diseases spread, people take leave from work, unesissary hardships, accidents, etc. We must look at the way they do it in the civilized world and make the necessary changes.
We are Christians and Muslims and must apply the teachings in the Bible and Koran to prevent corruption. Arrogance, greed, selfishness, foolish pride, etc. are the trade mark of 'chieftaincy and ayie ye" two of our primitive traditions that we need to change to bring in humility, accountability, freedom to question authority, etc. This is how to eradicate corruption.
