It is perplexing that a section of the population would arrogate to themselves the right to supervise the work of the chief executive.
It is all about politics. Kojo should not have credit for his hard work. But the world knows who transformed Kajetia in modern days.

Isaac, the stance of Asanteman is to send a message. Most people think once the president nominates some one as mayor then the said person becomes an alfa and omega. No! he is accountable to the people and must work with them. It surprises me that Kweku Baako of all people should pass those comments.
To whom does the city of Kumasi belong? It belongs to the chiefs. It does not belong to the president or the metropolitan chief executive. Secondly, the so-called mayor is there to serve the people so the chiefs reserve the right to kick him out if he misbehaves. Without the people and the city the mayor is nothing. After all the land on which the KMA building itself stands belongs to the Asantehene and he can order the KMA to vacate at anytime. Thirdly, and more importantly, it is said that most of the projects in the city that generated the confrontation between the chiefs and the mayor were initiated and made feasible by the chiefs themselves and as such they wanted to know what was going on so they can see to the successful execution of these projects. They have a big stake in what goes on in the city and no one can take from them the right to monitor the implementation of projects in the city.

It is a fact that Kojo Bonsu knew the chief but to show that he more powerful than the chiefs because of his post he arrogantly did what he did to show his power to the board members. he could have let the meeting finish and later enquire from the organisers of the meeting in this case the regional minister to ask for the purpose of the chief at the board meeting. BOARD MEETINGS ARE NOT ORDINARY MEETING WHERE YOU EXPECT ONLY YOUR NDC FRIENDS.IT INVOLVE A CROSS SECTION OF THE CONSTITUENTS AND INFLUENTIAL PERSONALITIES AND STAKE HOLDERS. WE MUST NOT ALLOW GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO DO WHAT THEY WANT ESPECIALLY IN AFRICA.

When you lie like you have just done people will see through the lies. Asantehene and his chiefs have just played a dirty politics. But what beats my mind is why they threatened to stall the development projects. Asantethene for the first time has behaved like a child throwing tantrums. For once he allowed dirty politics to cloud his judgment. He lost it this time. He allowed the hawks in the npp party to mislead him. Please Nana we know you to be wiser than that, please wake up and show leadership.
Kumasi does not belong to Asantehene it is part of Ghana. Ghana is a Republic and not a monarchy. There is no king in Ghana we only have chiefs at varying levels. Our constitution does not recognise a king in Ghana.
If the chiefs were those who initiated the development projects why then we're the people rejecting it in the first place? Some of the chiefs hated the idea that it is the ndc that is developing the market and the other projects. That was kojo bonsu's crime. I wish some of these chiefs will grow up and stop this political blindness.

Kzee, you are wrong! If the mayoralty were elective then Kwadwuo Bonsu would be accountable to the people of Kumasi, but since it is an appointive office he serves at the pleasure of the President, and therefore accountable to him only. If Mahama were to win the elections he should call the Asante Council's bluff and re-appoint Kwaduo Bonsu and allow that good-for-nothing council stall projects in that region. No chief, the asantehene included, or the representative, should have veto over political appointments or decisions made by the political authorities in Ghana.

It is true and in order that as individual tribes, kingdoms on its own accepted to become one under the name Ghana. With that, its one constitution supersedes all tribal kingdoms and individuals and its internal laws. We all came together to be ruled by Ghana.
Every Kingdom in Ghana are oblige to obey and abide by the laws of Ghana. Ghana by law has instituted numerous institutions to cater for the implementation of developments in every corner of Ghana. This has brought many many improved developments in Ghana. It is the duty of tribal groups, traditional councils and traditional states position themselves to help all constitutional governments to develop their area. It is not good and proper precedent for a traditional council take a stand against a constitutional Government decision. The action of Asanteman Council frankly is wrong. This may send signal to other traditional councils.
All Chiefs or Kings, or Nananom or Queen mothers whatever you call them cannot travel or fly out of Ghana without approval of the agencies put in place. That is the law put in place by our constitution to permit them to fly. They cannot do so without a visa. The law of Ghana is supreme. The Asanteman Coucil is not bigger than the constitution of Ghana.

I agree with this writer about the supremacy of the constitution of Ghana. What the writer is refusing to understand is that Kojo Bonsu is also an Ashanti royal who understands Ashanti traditions and protocols. However, he chose to disrespect the traditional council not once but several times. The council initially accommodated him, knowing very well that he is a function of the ruling government. Yet, Kojo Bonsu continued to malign the traditional council. The Asanteman council has shown other traditional councils that inasmuch as they are under a national constitution, they should not allow any government official to disrespect them. What makes me happy more, is that Kojo Bonus is an Ashanti and not any official that hails from another region. Critics would have quickly called charges of xenophobia against the traditional council. It further proves that Ashantis are level headed people who will work with anyone regardless of his or her traditional background. But, they will not entertain anyone who will disrespect them. Kwaku Bamako is a fine journalist that I respect but in this case he looked at the issue only from the National standpoint and did not look at the traditional perspective. A rejoinder, please.

Before Ghana there was Asanteman and Asante Kingdom will continue to exist. For you nitwits out there who think Asantehene is powerless, let it be known to you that the Asantehene can mobilise an army within a short time if the need arises, after all, the Asante army was much larger than the current Ghana army. As the Asantehene once said, his forebears achieved their greatness through territorial expansion during their period. We are in a modern period where the greatness of the Asantehene will be measured in his efforts to bring progress to his people through education, health care, and peaceful development

This uselessness or be it desperation on part of President Manama must stop now! What made Mahama believed that, the friendliest and most sympathetic institution to his government is Manhyia Palace or the so called Asanteman Council? Even with the most pedestrian issue in Ghana today, Mahama believes the first place of call is the Manhyia Palace, which has given opportunity to this greedy bastards called chiefs continue to treat him the Executive President and Commander of Ghana Armed Forces as a puppet, how? When has those things in the so called Manhyia Palace have been vested with the executive authority to issue the President of the republic an ultimatum to remove him, the President's own appointee? ln which constitution do they wield their power? Are we in a useless, accephalous or arnachist Republic? Who gave those so called kings or chiefs in Manhyia Palace to issue those useless and foolish ultimatum to the President of the state? But in all these, blame Mahama himself, who has become this useless puppet for these bunch of greedy things called kings and chiefs in Manhyia. President Attack Mills would not countenance this level insurbbodination from Asanteman Council, Rawlings would not allow himself to be humiliated by these faceless people. As for Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah by now, he would rounded everything up in that Manhyia Palace by now and put them behind bars pending investigation for that show of indiscipline and gross insurable donation to states authority. Tomorrow, should any other chief or king from any part of Ghana, be it Okyehene, Oguahene, Togbe Afede, Yaa Na name them, come out with ultimatum for the president to disappoint any of his appointees, we expect the President to use the same alacrity as in the case of Asanteman Council as a benchmark to deal with all related cases, so we would see where discipline lies in our Republic. Finally, Mahama must be told that, Ghana is a Republican state, not a monarchical state, if he thinks he wants to secede his Executive powers vested in him to Manhyia Palace, then, he needs to organize referendum as a matter of urgency for that realization. Today, if it is IMF program, Mahama wants all Ghanaians believe that, it was a certain Otumfuor who gave him, his blessings.

The first was given to President JJ Rawlings by the Ashanti Chiefs to remove his then Ashanti Regional minister.
Rawlings obliged and replaced his regional minister. Remember Yankah?
The only way to avoid such confrontations is to elect MCEs. That way the only option the chiefs will have is to ask their people to vote against the MCE when term comes up for renewal.
In Ashanti, the chiefs will always reign supreme in the absence of real people power.....democratically elected MCE.
Have you ever heard of an MP being treated like this by chiefs? NO. This is because the people can vote him out.

Had the NPP heeded the warning of the Alan Kyeremanten camp within the NPP that clueless Serial Loser Akufo-Addo is "incompetent and a monumental failure", the NPP would not be stuck with a perennial losing Akufo-Addo. The NPP keeps blaming the NDC and the Supreme Court for the NPP's poor performance at the polls, but that blame will never stick. The NPP will always have a hard time at the pools until it changes its losing and bullying ways. The NPP can't field a clueless flagbearer on its wobbly three-legged elephant and expect to win the race.

When they speak no one should talk, when the insult they are correct, when others insult or threat the life of other, no problem. God is watching them. Sometimes I wish they pass a law and separate this two region from Ghana. They should have the own constitution as Republic of Akyem and Ashanti and leave the remaining 8 Regions to be in love and in peace. Even Antoa nyame have mercy on those who offended it, but look at this NPP Otumfour traditional counsel. Am Damm Fucking fed up with this tribalistic syndrome. Your own Ashanti son Mr Bonsu, look at the way there treating him, because he is an NDC party member. Where were Otumfour and his counsel during the tenure of Kofi Jumah.

What is at play here is the Asantes' arrogance and haughtiness, pure and simple. Even though they were incorporated into the Gold Coast as late as 1902 following the Yaa Asantewa war, when the Western, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, and about half of the Volta Regions had already constituted the original Gold Coast Colony that the British colonial authorities had formally created in 1876, the Asantes have managed to delude themselves with this false, primitive notion, and have continued to do so even up to today, that without the Asante Region and the Asante people, there was no Gold Coast and that there can never be any Ghana without them. This is the mistaken belief that has driven their mentality and actions and makes them look down upon other ethnic groups in Ghana, and even other sub-Akan groups. It's this backward thinking that's behind the decision of the occupier of the Sika Ogua Kofi to give an ultimatum to our President to remove the Chief Executive Officer of the KMA. They foolishly suppose that they're superior to everyone else, even including the President of Ghana. Indeed, they mistakenly see the Asantehene not as one of the kings or chiefs, but as the king of Ghana. This is their problem.

Period!". If Kweku Baako is not happy, with what the traditional leaders have done, he must lobby the President to re-assign Kojo Bonsu to any top position in Kweku Baako's hometown or to the Presidency, where disappointed appointtees are given haven. "But Editor-In-Chief of the Observer newspaper and legal practitioner Egbert Faibille Jnr. backed the decision of the chiefs.
“They say they are Republicans, I am also a Republican”, Egbert Faibille Jnr. argued and stressed, the Asanteman traditional council’s decision is not at variance with the 1992 constitution.
He quoted the constitution Article 270 (1) “The institution of chieftaincy, together with its traditional councils as established by customary law and usage, is hereby guaranteed”
“The killing of the ram, is it not a customary usage?...what is unconstitutional about what has happened” he said.
He said the Ashanti traditional leaders have a huge history of exercising its powers since independence

It were to be in Ghana, I would do more than just sack him. The Ghana Civil Service is corrupt, in my view. Imperative to demand accountability fromy government official . I am surprised that you as a Journalist of all profession cannot understand the distasteful nature of the action of this government official who failed miserably to carry out his duties. This alone amounts to corruption and negligent on the part of Kumasi Mayor. You see, Politics is not a profession, rather a responsibility that one who in charge must enforce others to do the peoples work. If you fail to do it you must be removed as a consequence for your failure. So, fo you want the government just look the other way and care less about the Projects?
This kind of attitude was with most Ghanaians that when government entrust confidence in a person to do her/his work, these civil servants just Pocket the money and look the other way. Why are you "Surprised," for and about his removal? More givernment officials need to be removed. They are not contributing any mire. The Ghana Civil Service need a revamp in order for the country to move forward and develop. Right at this moment the Ghana's economy is stagnant. This is my point of view, and I an right.

Nationally the action of the Otumfuo and his Asanteman council proved their primitive and villageous approach to the Kejetia issue because they have no right in relation to the way they acted, because the whole issue of KMA activities is under the direction of the central government and not of the so called Asanteman council.
What a shameful act, a move that disqualifies all the Asante educated guys as educated buffoons who could not pinpoint the village oriented action of the Otumfuo, who also proved that despite his time spent outside Ghana he is still a village man-Asantehene.
I believe their character and behaviour might have upset every rational Ghanaian because that is not the way they should have acted, hence Baako is too smart to see the foolishness of the Asantehene and his village filled mindedness followers.

It's very sad for traditional chiefs to wield so much power and influence to oust a government appointee on such a flimsy excuse. This can only happen in Ghana!!!. As much as we cherish our cultural practices, the constitution must define and limit the role of chiefs in political decisions. Too much interference in administrative decisions can undermine our democracy. It could also lead to serious insurrection of people's anger as demographic of Ghanaian population changes.

Does kwaku baako thinks he is more wiser, knowledgeable and above all understand the constitution of Ghana more than over 50 sub chiefs of kumasi. Let me tell uncle kwaku that some of the chiefs are doctors, lawyers, engineers etc.and know the system of governance in Ghana. What they did about 90 percent of ksi people support their action against Mr.kojo Bonsu. You can disagree but kwaku should be very careful about his comments about this issue. Is very delicate one.

KWAKU, understanding the Chiefs stance should not be far-fetched! To be successful in any role, one must not downplay the respect and cooperation of all the stakeholders. Kojo Bonsu's demise is a result of complete disrespect that he has demonstrated to the stakeholders that he had to work with. The decision by nananom is a reflection of the feeling people of Kumasi had about Kojo Bonsu. They have just had enough of his arrogance and fraud! There had been other mayors before him and none court the wrath of the traditional reps of the people than Kojo Bonsu. Shouldn't it be told in clear voice that the no-nonsense character of the Ashanti will always come play at anyone either from within or without!

To prevent future occurrences of traditional rulers meddling with politics, both DCE and ministers should be elected period! what the hell is the asanteman? are they not humans? for God sake Kojo Bonsu apologised to them but they simply refused the apology and went on to demand for his removal or stall development in Kumasi. Their conduct is a shame to leadership. How can traditional leaders stale development? that's primitive this should happen in the gold coast era not in modern Ghana under the 21st century. politics and tradition are different entities.

We re told the whole project was the initiative of the traditional authority who went out there to secure the funding from Brazil,so how ungrateful can the government be when they re taking credit for the project because Untill this show of power by the mayor most people didn't even know that the Chiefs had a hand in that project, the NDC don't ve good human relations, they act with impunity and think they can take it anywhere anytime regardless of who stands on their way but what they forget is that there's a thin line between power and opposition.if Kojo Bonsu who knows the background of the project and a royal member can be so careless to the extent that his own people can punish him this way then clearely there's something more we re not aware of,now that he's no more a mayor he should go to the assambly and show his powers against the Chiefs but very soon those who appointed him ll also find themselves in the same boat with him.

Find out the background and the modus operandi of the chief nominated by the Otumfoo to represent him on the project. The money raised by the said chief and where it ended. Kojo Bonsus story should be told
Even my friend KWAKU MALIK wont open his mouth. that shows how dreadful, insolent, and scandalous our traditional rulers have become. Why would JDM still want to complete that project? he should start one in Accra or Ho.

I thought NDC has abandoned Ashanti Region with no development yet there's enough to even stalled it. Others don't even have one to bost off during Mahama term.
Nationally the action of the Otumfuo and his Asanteman council proved their primitive and villageous approach to the Kejetia issue because they have no right in relation to the way they acted, because the whole issue of KMA a ...

How some sub Chiefs can give the elected President of Ghana an ultimatum to sack the KMA chief executive is baffling, When those so called Chiefs can not issue an ultimatum to Asantehene.
KWAKU, understanding the Chiefs stance should not be far-fetched! To be successful in any role, one must not downplay the respect and cooperation of all the stakeholders. Kojo Bonsu's demise is a result of complete disrespect ...
